Red Rooster Events and the Stag and Scotch Micropub in Newport are hosting a beer festival at Newport Rugby Club. We catch up with the organiser to find out more.
Transcript
00:00So we're here in Newport with Darren from the Stag and Scotch Micropub, also Red Rooster Events.
00:07Hello Darren.
00:08Hi, how you doing?
00:08I'm good, thank you buddy.
00:10So you've got a bit of a special event coming up, just fill us in on what it is and where it is,
00:14because it's not actually going to be here, is it?
00:16It's not, no.
00:17It's the Racked and Taps Beer Festival, which takes place on the 26th of July at Newport Rugby Club,
00:23just up the Forton Road there, in a huge marquee.
00:25So whatever the weather, we've got you covered on that side of things.
00:29We'll be featuring 25 real ales, traditional ciders, keg and craft beers, live music all afternoon and evening.
00:37We've got a superb line-up of artists there for you, street food, and generally just a good day all round.
00:44That sounds like a good day out, mate. I'm getting it on my calendar.
00:47Have you done it there before?
00:48Yeah, we did our first one last year, the inaugural one was last year, in July again,
00:52where we had 27 Cascales that day, and we pretty much sold a lot out.
00:57So it was a fantastic day, yeah.
00:58Do people tend to switch to ciders in the summer, or are you still doing well on the ales?
01:03Yeah, the ales slow up a little bit. Cider does pick up naturally.
01:06Some of the lager drinkers have transferred across to cider as well for a short period of time.
01:10So yeah, it is a growth marketplace during this warm period, yeah.
01:15Cool. And it's a great venue, isn't it?
01:17I know people that have been there before, and it works well as a venue to host events, a rugby club.
01:22Yeah, it works great. I mean, like I said, it was the first one we did there last year.
01:25It works for beautiful views, plenty of space to put a big marquee up by our friends across the show system support us with that.
01:32So yeah, it's a great space, nice infrastructure, and it kind of works for us.
01:35And of the ales you're taking along with you, what's any particular ones you'd give out a shout to yourself, personal favourites?
01:42We're just finishing the actual listings off at the moment.
01:45It's difficult to do it too early, because a lot of the breweries out there do seasonals.
01:50They don't know what they're doing themselves yet for a month's time.
01:53So yeah, there's just some great beers from the likes of Enville, Ludlow, we've got some, what else have we got going on?
02:00Stonehouse is doing some three tonnes.
02:03Hobson's Brewery has supported us really well this year.
02:05So we've got some great Shropshire and Staffordshire and Cheshire-based brewers joining us alongside some from Featherfield as well.
02:11Nice one. Well, great look. Good luck with the event, chap.
02:14I'm sure it'll be a great day out for all. Cheers, buddy.
02:16Thanks, mate. Cheers.
