The Ludlow Brewery has started its weekend of beers and fun as the Valentines Ales Massacre beer fest starts.

00:03It's the beer fest, how you doing Cody?

00:05Yeah, very well, very well.

00:07So you're King Brewer?

00:09I am, I'm the head brewer here at Ludlow Brewery.

00:11How long have you been involved here?

00:13I've been here for about 8 years now.

00:15Oh wow, okay. So how old were you when you started?

00:17You still look like a youngster.

00:19I came here shortly after I graduated

00:21at university

00:23doing brewing and distilling.

00:25Oh okay.

00:27That was back in 2017, I would have been

00:3021, 22?

00:32Yeah.

00:34So what got you, you know, as a young man

00:36what was it that kind of you thought, right

00:38brewing course, that's what I want to do.

00:40Was your dad doing the home brew at home?

00:42No, it was a bit of an odd journey

00:44so I wasn't originally

00:46going to do it, I was into

00:48computer science, immunology

00:50a lot, but

00:52biology has always been my sort of strong point

00:54so I spoke

00:56to a few people and they said

00:59I met you for the job, brewing

01:01and that's how I got into it.

01:03Cool, like it. So it's an annual thing here

01:05isn't it? Yeah. And 13th year

01:07is that right?

01:09I think so. Or something like that,

01:11yeah something like that. How many different

01:13brews have you got kind of ongoing

01:15for people to sample?

01:17I think there's over 20

01:19here. Over 20? So it's the

01:21Beerfest Valentine's Day Massacre.

01:23You've bought your other half, so

01:25he's taking me out tonight

01:28to the comedy. To the comedy, yeah

01:30you asked in the poster for that, yeah it should be good fun.

01:32I've been to a comedy place before.

01:34So you're Ludlow folk? Yes.

01:36What do you think of this place then?

01:38Lovely. Yeah.

01:40It's great isn't it, it's full of character

01:42the beer's great.

01:44Events, staff as well.

01:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:48Is that the new Ludlow

02:12So just talk us through some of

02:14the stuff here on Valentine's

02:16Day, it's on all weekend

02:18what's some of the stuff that's happening over the weekend

02:20in terms of entertainment and food and stuff?

02:22Yeah, so we've got a few bands

02:25playing, there's some

02:27comedy stuff going on,

02:29food trucks.

02:31Pizza girls, I've met them before,

02:33they're colourful characters

02:35with the pink hair.

02:37But yeah, loads of stuff to do all day.

02:39Wicked, and you're launching

02:41a new beer,

02:43Concordia. We have indeed.

02:45So it's a bit of a collab isn't it, talk us through

02:47about that then and how that came about.

02:49This was done with Nothingbound

02:51Brewery, they were not too far away

02:54they're just over Bewdley Way

02:56and they make some cracking beers.

02:58Right, so here we meet David

03:00at the bar, hello sir. Hello, how are you?

03:02I'm good thank you matey, so you live not too far

03:04from Ludlow? About 10 miles away.

03:06So is this, are you a regular

03:08here at the brewery? Far too regular.

03:10Far too regular.

03:12And what do you think of the events they put on like this

03:14beer fest? It's very good, very good indeed.

03:16Of all the ones you've sampled

03:18today, what's tickling you?

03:20The toffee and the

03:23home grown whisky bell.

03:25I had a sniff of that, it smells, if it tastes as good

03:27as it smells, it's delicious.

03:29And in terms of the Ludlow drinks

03:31any particular favourites?

03:33The gold isn't it generally? Stairway.

03:35Which one? Stairway. Oh right,

03:37Stairway, good stuff.

03:39Well we'll let you go and climb

03:41those stairs

03:43and see where you end up.

03:45Like with other breweries

03:47was this a first?

03:49We've done a couple small ones for

03:52Beer Axe, which is a big

03:54well it's the biggest beer

03:56exhibition in the UK.

03:58That was with

04:00some supplying

04:02companies, malt companies,

04:04hop companies.

04:06But this is the first one we've done

04:08with another brewer

04:10who just makes beer.

04:12And is this special for the festival or will this be kind of

04:14living on the bar for the year?

04:16It's a limited time thing

04:18so you can only get it probably just this weekend.

04:20So describe the taste

04:22then, it's a 6%er.

04:24So go on, how would you describe

04:26it then? I know it's not necessarily

04:28that, I know it's wet.

04:30On the stronger side, it's very

04:32fruity, very hoppy,

04:34just massive,

04:36massive aromas.

04:40Good, good stuff.

04:42Cool, well you do great
