New Gaming Shop in Newport.

Quest Keepers is a brand new  Gaming shop, opening today in Salters Court in Newport. We meet the owner for a chat.

00:00Hi, my name's Sebastian. I'm with Quest Keepers. Come check out my store.

00:21Cool.

00:25Aha, the world of gaming.

00:27Yes, indeed.

00:28So how long have you been in then, Sebastian?

00:30In the store. This is our first day, so we're opening up.

00:34Awesome. So fill us in for someone who doesn't know what Quest Keepers is, because you know a lot of people won't.

00:39What are you all about then?

00:41So our main products at the moment are Warhammer, which is a miniature tabletop wargame.

00:46So you buy the models, build them up, paint them and have some wargames with them.

00:52On top of that, we've also got a whole bunch of accessories here.

00:55So we've got all these fancy dice, dice cups, all these little bits to base your miniatures on.

01:02And then a few other little bits and bobs as well.

01:05So what's your painting skills? Have you painted any up yourself?

01:08Yeah, so this is one of mine.

01:09I did wonder, yes, as I glanced around.

01:12And we've got a few little bits and bobs over here that I've put together and painted as well.

01:17So what came first for you? The interest of the painting and the crafting side or the gaming side?

01:22Definitely the painting, the crafting and the building of the models.

01:25Because that's where you have to start.

01:27And then, yeah, it started in Covid when we were all locked up inside.

01:31Picked up my first box and fell in love with it.

01:34And now I've got a shop.

01:36Yeah, as you do.

01:37So where were you from yourself then?

01:39So I stayed just outside of town.

01:42Originally, though, from South Africa.

01:44Me and my wife moved over.

01:46I was going to say, yeah, I was getting the accent there.

01:48Yeah, yeah. So from South Africa to Newport.

01:50From South Africa to Newport, yeah.

01:52So my family are traditionally from the UK.

01:55So we moved over and started here.

01:57So where were your family from in the UK originally?

02:00Hull.

02:01Oh, okay.

02:02Yeah, yeah.

02:03So a bit of a northern twang knocking about in the family down the line.

02:07And what are you making of Newport and Shropshire compared to South Africa then?

02:12Colder.

02:13Yeah.

02:14But very, very beautiful.

02:16Nice and green.

02:17We love taking the dogs out into the hills for walks and that.

02:20So we fell in love with the Midlands in general.

02:23So yeah, we're enjoying it.

02:24Great stuff.

02:25So in terms of the gaming, we'll swing you around.

02:28Go on, come up to that corner for us.

02:30Warhammer's massive, isn't it really now?

02:34It is.

02:35And all made in the UK.

02:37Is it?

02:38Didn't realise that.

02:39They've got a massive factory up in Nottingham.

02:41Oh, wow.

02:42So all this is in plastic moulding done by them.

02:45Yeah.

02:46Boxed up there and shipped all over the world.

02:48I was going to say, because I knew it was big here, so it's popular all over then.

02:52Yeah, yeah.

02:53Very, very big.

02:54That's a nice export we've got there then.

02:56Definitely.

02:57So opening times, when can people catch you at the shop here?

03:00So to start with, we're open on a Saturday from 1 o'clock until 5pm.

03:05And we'll be looking to expand those alleys with all the support we've been getting.
