00:00The Isedford is in full flow up in Wrexham with thousands of people flocking to the city to be
00:06part of the biggest Welsh language festival in the country. It's a celebration of Welsh culture,
00:11Welsh heritage and Welsh spirit. The Isedford is the big one. It's for everyone. It gives
00:17people the chance to compete in artistic competitions with music, poetry, dance and
00:22spoken word and brings people across the country together to share in Welshness. In two years time,
00:28not the full Isedford, but the youth Isedford will be coming here to Newport. The city is
00:34certainly not known for its Welsh language and despite some massive events a decade or so ago,
00:40Newport city centre has certainly seen better days. So it'll be a chance to not only celebrate
00:44the Welshness in Newport, but also gets the streets full of people once again. What do locals think?
00:49Will it make much of a difference? Yeah, it would be encouraging to get the crowds back,
00:55get the crowds back in there and let it go from there. It'd be nice to see you see the streets full
01:03again. Sure, promote the Welsh language. It'll be a good thing for Newport. Some somewhere for people
01:10to go and be entertained. I think it's a good thing. Yeah, I think it's a good idea. The thing is,
01:18you should have done this years ago, not now, because all the shops in Newport are all shutting up.
01:24It's like a ghost town, really, because you bring the Stedford down here, you bring all the people
01:31down and the shops are living up again. The Earth, as it's often called, has been
01:37named the biggest youth festival in Europe. Schools, community groups and families across
01:41Wales will be taking part, and it's a great opportunity to showcase what Newport has to offer.
01:47Of course, the Welsh language aspect is a major part of the celebrations,
01:51so will it encourage Newportonians to start to share our come right?
01:54I think it'll be amazing. I think, obviously, you know, I think down like South Wales especially,
02:01it's not as patriotic, but I do think it's coming back. So yeah, I think it coming here,
02:06I think it'll be amazing. I know a lot of people who want to get involved, so it's a good thing.
02:10Yeah. Because there's a lot of people in it. Well, the children in school now are being brought up
02:16to speak Welsh, which is great. My granddaughter, she's, she's one of them. But like I say, us
02:23golden oldies never got round to it, you know what I mean? I like the Welsh language to be spoken,
02:28don't get me wrong. And, you know, there's some lovely music in the Welsh language as well.
02:35They always tell me about it. I mean, I used to work away a lot. And I used to work down
02:41West Wales, North Wales. They even speak Welsh up North Wales, doesn't they? Well, there you are, Alan.
02:47Well, yes, yes. But it's very difficult to learn. And I have tried twice. And as I say,
02:52I've been very unsuccessful. So I'm not sure whether I'll try again, but you never know.
