00:00Digital transformation is hinged on inclusivity, so says Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs Sanjay Singh,
00:08who addressed the closing session of the Tech Hub Island Summit hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce, TNT.
00:15We cannot build smart societies without first ensuring that every citizen in our urban centers to rural districts has access to digital tools that define the modern life.
00:28He says the digitization of public service platforms will serve to bring the government closer to the people and vice versa, as it pertains to artificial intelligence.
00:39To echo Minister Smith's objectives, we want to ensure AI is used to empower, not exploit.
00:47We want to cover data ethics, algorithm, transparency, procurement standards, and citizens' readiness and mechanism, all in the effort to drive to make a more better nation.
01:03Strategy and academia, two things dear win, says TNT possesses and can use as a foundation to be a Caribbean leader in the area of artificial intelligence.
01:14intelligence. The AI lead at Amazon Web Services believes because AI can be applied to so many areas, including the oil and gas industry, it is not a bad place to zone in.
01:26While you may not see the shift and change because you're always going to have some manual labor in terms of like, you know, drilling and what's required on the oil works,
01:38but the kind of efficiency that you consider, how we, you know, improve the process for drilling, what do we look at in terms of resource management around that?
01:49Like, well, how do we consider demand? All of that can be AI driven.
01:53But there is another suggestion advancing as a tech hub.
01:57I think that what we need to focus on is applying the technology to regular businesses and leapfrogging other competitors globally based on the adoption of technology or other best practices.
02:10And so if you do that and you get really good at applying technology all the time, then you can have a much faster rate of growth.
