00:00Now, after a turbulent domestic campaign, Tottenham's season was defined by contrasting fortunes.
00:09While their Premier League performance was a struggle, finishing just above the relegation zone, their European run was historic.
00:19Under Ange Postacoglu, Spurs lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy for the first time in decades, a landmark achievement that reignited the club's ambitions.
00:27With Thomas Frank now appointed as head coach, the focus shifts to rebuilding a consistent side.
00:35The summer transfer window will be crucial for smart recruitment to strengthen key areas and support Frank's tactical vision.
00:43Looking ahead, Tottenham's return to the Champions League and the stability of a new leadership offers hope for a much brighter future.
00:51We spoke to James Trenbath of London World to review Tottenham's rollercoaster season, assess the initial signs under Thomas Frank and discuss the optimism building around the club's next chapter.
01:03Yeah, obviously, in terms of grading Spurs this season, it's quite tough to do so.
01:11But, you know, start of the season, I'm sure, get Champions League football, win a trophy was probably the two board aims.
01:19I mean, despite finished 17th in the Premier League table, they did achieve that.
01:25They are back in the Champions League.
01:26How do you actually grade Spurs' season?
01:28I mean, it's quite an interesting one.
01:30But as you said before, you know, in our preview for the final, if Ange was to win it, he does go down as a Spurs great.
01:37You know, he has to in terms of returning that trophy.
01:42Yeah, I mean, you know, Ange Postercoglu will be a legend forever in the hearts of all of us as Spurs fans for delivering us that sort of trophy that we've been craving for so long.
01:51But it was such an unprecedented season.
01:54I mean, I don't think, you know, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not sure it's ever been done before that a team has effectively flirted with relegation.
02:01You could say, albeit, you know, we were never going to go down.
02:03And, you know, Ange has already said he prioritised the Europa League, but then to win the trophy.
02:08So it's such a difficult one.
02:12You know, I get the sort of mindset of going all after the Europa League.
02:16We had so many injuries at the start of the season.
02:17And had he have just put a little bit more into one or two more games, perhaps, we'd have finished maybe 10th, 11th, 12th, won a trophy.
02:27And you could say, what a fantastic season around all the injuries, the sort of context around it, the struggles that we had throughout the season.
02:34And Postercoglu would probably still be in a job.
02:37But the fact that we went all in on the Europa League, we rested so many players, you know, there was always the talk of, you know,
02:44we get the players back and we're going to really pick up and the league form will improve.
02:47Well, it definitely didn't.
02:49And when you look at the stats, you know, 18 of our 38 points came against three teams doing the double over Brentford, Southampton and Manchester United,
02:57which, you know, lays bare just how bad the league season was.
03:00But, you know, ultimately we've got a trophy.
03:02So, you know, you've got to say it's an eight or a nine out of ten, really, you know, because we've got that silverware that we crave.
03:08But, you know, obviously the league form caveat to that was horrendous and ultimately that's what's cost Ange Postercoglu's job.
03:15The amount of difference between, you know, the team's probably fifth, sixth, seventh and Spurs at the moment.
03:20You know, we beat Aston Villa last year.
03:22We played very well against Newcastle twice.
03:25You know, we should have taken some points off Newcastle.
03:27Chelsea will spend again.
03:28So, you know, it's going to be tough, but there's no reason why we shouldn't be back, you know,
03:32punching, you know, fourth, fifth, sixth position and really trying to qualify for the Champions League again league-wise.
03:37And then, look, we're looking for a good run in the Champions League, you know, if we can get a decent draw.
03:42Obviously, we're going to play some big teams in the way that the new format's structured.
03:47But let's have some fun.
03:48Let's go after it.
03:49And if we could get into the knockout stages, you know, I think that would be a really good season for Spurs, you know,
03:54top six knockout stages of the Champions League and having a good run at one of the domestic cups.
03:59But we do need a deeper squad.
04:00I think that is the sort of Achilles heel.
04:03Thomas Frank's not got any European experience, so we're going to need some leaders in there as well to come in and,
04:08you know, really bolster the squad.
04:10But if we are to compete on multiple fronts, we're going to need to dip into the transfer market
04:14and we're going to need to strengthen in certain areas.
04:16And they need to be ready-made players.
04:18You know, signing the likes of Bergvall and Archie Gray is fantastic for the future.
04:22And, you know, you look at the growth in both of them, despite the challenges that we faced this year,
04:26Bergvall's turning into a star already and one of the first names on the team sheet.
04:30But we do need some experience in certain positions.
04:34And obviously it would be interesting now to see whether Thomas Frank goes back to Brentford
04:37and tries to sign the likes of Mbwemo would be a fantastic signing if we could hijack that deal from Manchester United.
