AUKUS deal 'crucial to prosperity, security', says Angus Taylor

Opposition defence spokesman Angus Taylor called for "a real focus on this alliance" with USA.

00:06for when that's going to happen. We need a real focus on this alliance. It's crucial

00:12for our prosperity, for our security as a country. On AUKUS, it's absolutely essential.

00:19We understand where this review is going and we understand what is expected of us. And

00:24the Americans fully understand the importance of AUKUS for their middle world. On trade

00:30barriers, we need to make sure that we get the very best outcome for Australia we possibly

00:37can. We're seeing other countries now getting incentives. We should be seeking exactly the

00:42same. And of course, alliances and relationships are built on personal relationships. And it's

00:47absolutely crucial, despite their differences, that the President of the United States and

00:51the Prime Minister of Australia are able to sit down and work through these crucial issues.

00:56We still don't have a time for a meeting. It seems that this government, this Prime Minister

01:00is better able to and more interested in getting a meeting with the President of China than the

01:05President of the United States.
