00:00Angus Taylor has been elected leader of the Liberal Party, defeating Susan Lee
00:0634 votes to 17 in a party room spill ballot. This morning there was a spill
00:11motion for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Australia. That motion was
00:16successful. A ballot was conducted for the leadership. There was two candidates
00:20Susan Lee and Angus Taylor and Angus Taylor was successful 33 votes to 17
00:26and is now the leader of the Liberal Party of Australia. Senator Jane Hulme secured
00:31the deputy leadership from a field of four candidates. In a dramatic twist, Lee
00:37announced she will resign from Parliament, triggering a by-election in her rural
00:42New South Wales seat of Tharrah, which she has held for 25 years. For those who
00:48supported me today, I thank you. For those who did not, I genuinely have no hard
00:55feelings. I'm not sure what comes next for me. I look forward to stepping away
01:02completely and comprehensively from public life, to spend time with my family, to
01:10reconnect with my enduring passion, aviation, which taught me if I had an ego
01:16I'd be dead. It's been quite useful in politics. Treasurer Jim Chalmers wasted no
01:22time in tearing down his old sparring partner, Taylor.
