00:00On June 29, the Church celebrates two pillars of the Christian faith, Saint Peter and Saint Paul.
00:07Two men with opposing backgrounds, united in mission and martyrdom.
00:13Saint Peter, the sinner who became Peter.
00:16Peter, whose real name is Simon, is a fisherman from Galilee.
00:19When Jesus calls him, he leaves everything and follows him.
00:22He is the one whom Christ chose as leader of the apostles.
00:24You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church.
00:27Peter loves Jesus passionately, but he will deny him three times out of fear.
00:33Yet after the resurrection he is forgiven.
00:35He then became the first pope, the shepherd of the Christian flock.
00:39In Rome, Peter evangelizes, despite the persecutions of Nero.
00:43He died crucified upside down out of humility.
00:46His tomb is located beneath St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
00:51Saint Paul, the persecutor becomes an apostle.
00:53Paul, first called Saul, is a zealous Pharisee, enemy of Christians.
00:58But one day, on the road to Damascus, a light blinds him.
01:02He hears the voice of Jesus.
01:04Saul, why do you persecute me?
01:06Converted, he became the apostle of the nations.
01:08Traveling tirelessly, he founded communities in Asia Minor, Greece and Rome.
01:13His letters form a large part of the New Testament.
01:16In Rome, Paul is arrested.
01:18As a Roman citizen, he was beheaded, probably on the same day as Peter, around the year 64.
01:25United in martyrdom, united in faith.
01:28Together they are the two pillars of the Church.
01:30Peter, the rock of faith.
01:32Paul, the torch of evangelization.
01:35Their joint celebration reminds us that God can transform the simplest hearts, as well as the hardest.
