00:00Bottoming on certain exit curbs is always a bit of a factor, so we see a replay of Antonelli.
00:05Antonelli down towards turn one, favourite place to lock up, run wide, and he's just about kept the car on the track, but he did lock up in doing so.
00:14And you don't want to be doing that too much and creating flat spots on those tyres.
00:18He did a lot of that in Bahrain, didn't he? There was a lot of lockups and he didn't seem happy.
00:23And actually, that race was the first one that you sort of thought, OK, he's having a rookie-ish race, isn't he?
00:31Sort of the tyre deg was high, they switched him to the three-stop, and he got messed around with the safety car.
00:36But compared to George's race, follow each other very closely.
00:40Now, these are big, heavy cars that we've got over 900 kilograms with their drivers, and they struggle to get them slowed down.
00:52I would say one in ten, 100 miles an hour, such is the acceleration.
00:57You can see the drivers, you know, it's actually unusual to see a driver come through here on exactly the same line, twice as they follow through here.
01:05It's a really tricky little corner. It's also, it's a lot going on here.
01:09Pit exit lane here, you can see the white line across the track to my left there, which is the end of the pit lane,
01:17and also the second safety car line right in the middle of all of the action.
01:21Meanwhile, Lance Stroll has come a bit of a cropper down at turn two and three,
01:30and it's fortunate there's a run-off area down there.
01:33Looks like under-brake if you're turn one, looking at those tyre tracks, isn't it?
01:36He's just gone straight off, but found reverse gear. Martin would have had a great view.
01:41Yeah, and turn 22, I should say, and then did it again on lap six in the race.
01:45Here's Lance. Oh, rear locking. Yeah. Just gnashed the rears.
01:50Looks like a failure to me, or something went wrong there. He had an alarm on his dash straight afterwards,
01:55but, yeah, to lock the rears that immediately and for it to spit you into a spin doesn't seem right.
02:00On a track where you need a bit of confidence in your car, that doesn't do you any favours either.
02:05Well, it's interesting because it's such a high-speed track that you kind of always look for high-speed balance
02:10as we're watching Alex Albon here through turn nine.
02:14It's getting long. And that's the big problem here is the fact that it's so blind.
02:18Because you've basically got flat-out straight in the third DRS zone, hairpin, flat-out straight,
02:26and into turn one, where you need your brakes and your tyres to be gripping up and working
02:30in just one millisecond between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
02:34And needing a little bit of assistance, because it is such a tight exit from the garages here.
02:40It really is. This is on board with Oscar Piastri, and that's Hulkenberg in front of him.
02:45And this is Oscar Piastri's reaction.
02:48Yeah, I got blocked by the Red Bull. Completely in the way.
02:52That was for staff on the blockchain.
02:53Yeah, a little thumbs up there from Oscar Piastri. Instant feedback.
02:58That incident, by the way, Lewis Hamilton impeding Alex Albon,
03:02potentially is going to be investigated after the session.
03:06The stewards have already given a reprimand to Liam Lawson
03:09for driving over the pit entry box that he shouldn't have been driving over,
03:16not once, but twice.
03:17And this is the bit where he touches the wall.
03:21You can see a little look in the mirror, isn't it?
03:22As he came out of it, watch here. Hopefully we'll see the real wing wobbling around.
03:30Did he touch it?
03:31Oh, I said potentially at the time. I reckon it's a glance.
03:34Yes.
03:35It's the nearest of glances.
03:37Put it this way, if you were the batsman and I was the bowler,
03:39I'd be appealing for caught behind on that.
03:41Yeah, yeah. It would definitely go for review, though.
03:43And I definitely will.
03:45In Bahrain last time out, where Lando Norris finished third,
03:49was he almost coming into the pits at the end of that lap?
03:52That's weird.
03:52Either way, he would have increased his gap over Oscar Piastri
03:55had he not lost time in that final sector and that final moment.
04:00Oscar Piastri pounces on that.
04:02That's the only time he needs to be leading in Zabba Dabby, isn't it?
04:05Sunday night.
04:06Do a Sebastian Vettel.
04:08Yeah.
04:08He won his first world title.
04:11Liam Lawson goes fourth fastest.
04:12I would have expected the gap to be slightly bigger, to be honest.
04:16Well, his delta is showing half a second up,
04:19or it was the last time I saw it,
04:21in the background of the timing page.
04:25He's gone into the 128.
04:26Some of the components that were buried in the car
04:29in that front suspension,
04:30and that's why he was in the garage a little bit longer.
04:32It seemed to get out, no problem,
04:34but very, very calm here at McLaren,
04:36but expect these soft runs soon.
04:38Yeah, well, science's latest soft run
04:40has produced a time that's 300s faster
04:42than George Russell at corner number 27.
04:45Third gear corner, about 70 miles an hour.
04:47Puts on the throttle.
04:49DRS open, powering down the main straight,
04:52crosses the line,
04:53goes quickest by four-tenths of a second.
04:55128.5.
04:56From the commentary box to the track side,
04:58he knew that I couldn't come in and say anything,
05:00so he gave it a day.
05:01Sorry, I had a bad hit exit of C4.
05:06Check the floor.
05:08We'll be checking.
05:10Pierre Hamelin, the engineer,
05:13talking there to Isaac Hadja.
05:15While Martin was trackside,
05:17Oscar Piastri goes a tenth up on Max Verstappen,
05:21and, yeah, they'll be checking all sorts
05:24on the racing balls there.
05:26Although that, I thought, was quite a nice little exit.
05:29Paper thin there.
05:30He said turn four,
05:31so I wonder whether that was on an exit bump.
05:33Big snap for Kimi Antonelli.
05:35And it does look tricky out there.
05:37I know some good lap times are coming in,
05:38but there are a lot of mistakes as well.
05:40So, has he got enough grip on those tyres
05:42to get some good traction out of the final corner
05:45and cross the line with the fastest time?
05:48Yes, he does.
05:49128.3.
05:50Nine one-hundredths of a second
05:51between Norris and Piastri.
05:53That's a replay of Jack doing here.
05:55So, Jack's just gone P17.
05:59It got on the kerb.
06:00Point to being on that ramp of a kerb.
06:03That's where you want to carry
06:04as much speed as you can through turn nine,
06:05but that's going to really hurt the floor
06:07and not what you're going to want to do come qualifying.
06:10And you're going to get your lap deleted
06:12for that one as well.
06:13Well, that's where Mick Schumacher hit the kerb
06:15and it spat him across the track
06:17on the inside.
06:18So, it's a tenth and a half he gained
06:20in the middle sector.
06:21This is Piastri before he failed, I think.
06:25Yeah.
06:26It wasn't traffic that was putting him off there.
06:28Did he hit the wall?
06:29Oh, did he?
06:29Yes.
06:29On the left.
06:31Such a stutter wall.
06:32It's a kind of copy.
06:34And you can tell by the agitated tone
06:37in Oscar Piastri's voice
06:38that he hit the wall or not.
06:41Tongue firmly in cheek with that one.
06:43This is Alex Albon.
06:45He definitely did.
06:46He just skipped the wall.
06:49And that was a thud.
06:50Where was it?
06:51Was it China when he got pulled
06:52and Oscar came on the radio and said,
06:54I've just had a little scream in the radio.
06:58Is that in my helmet or something?
07:00That's the bit I wish we heard.
07:03How little was the scream called, dear?
07:06That is more than a glance.
07:08That could have been a lot nastier
07:09than it was as well
07:10because he was heading straight for the wall.
07:12He just managed to correct it
07:13so it ended up just straight.
07:15Box, I click the wall.
07:17Exit of last corner.
07:18OK, copy.
07:20He had the wobbles there.
07:23It's how much you can push a tyre
07:25before it overheats and degrades.
07:27Primarily the soft or the medium tyre.
07:29We think the hard can basically do the whole race.
07:31Of course, you can't.
07:32You have to use two different compounds
07:34as Lando Norris cuts across
07:35the apex of turn two
07:38with a little hint of a lock-up.
07:39So what they'll do is put a number of laps on the medium.
07:43A yellow flag.
07:44Yeah.
07:44Is it Yuki Tsunoda?
07:46Yes, it is Yuki Tsunoda.
07:49As you can see, Yuki Tsunoda out of the final corner
07:52has hit the wall and we've got a red flag.
07:55And radioing first and foremost to say I'm OK,
07:59which is first and foremost what we want to hear.
08:02But he's gone in quite hard there
08:04and you can see how the front wing is lying,
08:07strewn quite a long way away from the car
08:10in the middle of the track.
08:12So, and you can see the tyre tracks there.
08:16Looks like he's lost it quite early on power, actually.
08:19Yeah.
08:19And he's just done two ends straight into the barrier.
08:21Let's have a little look.
08:22Medical car's arrived and Yuki's already walking away
08:25towards the pits.
08:27So in we go.
08:29No, he touched the inside.
08:30He did a Lando Norris.
08:32Oh, dear.
08:33Oh, Yuki.
08:35And it...
08:37That's the sort of basic lapse in concentration
08:42and side pairer.
08:43It's the more...
08:44It's the one where you're more annoyed.
08:45Like the car's rotated clearly
08:47much more than he was expecting.
08:49He just...
08:50He kind of did the steering in two stages,
08:52and he turned in and then wound on the lock
08:53and almost didn't expect the front to bite
08:56and rotate,
08:58and that took him into the inside wall.
09:00That is a big penalty, though,
09:02for a small initial brush of the wall.
09:04This has been second practice
09:07for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
09:10Lando Norris, fastest.
09:12He's led every FP1 session so far this season,
09:15apart from here today.
09:17He's made up for that by being fastest in FP2.
09:20From his teammate, Oscar Piastri, tenth and a half.
09:22Between the two McLarens,
09:23Max Verstappen, third,
09:24in the top six in an FP2 session
09:26for the first time this year.
09:27Then came Charles Leclerc
09:29and Carlos Sainz for Williams.
09:31Yuki Tsunoda brought out the red flag
09:32when he crashed ten minutes from the end.
09:34George Russell,
09:35Pierre Gasly, who was quickest in FP1,
09:37Nico Hülkenberg and Alex Albon
09:39completing the top ten.
09:41So work to be done for Kimi Antonelli,
09:43who hit the wall quite hard,
09:44Isaac Hadja,
09:45and for Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari.
09:48Liam Lawson ahead of Fernando Alonso,
09:50Oli Behrman ahead of Jack Doohan,
09:51Lance Stroll ahead of Esteban Ocon,
09:53and Gabriel Portoletto
09:54didn't get out at all
09:55because of a fuel leak in his Salva.
09:58Lando's FP2 here in general.
