00:00This is my new guided knife sharpener. This is a machine from this piece here from one piece of aluminum or aluminium.
00:15We've got some nice little rubber feet here which stop it from sliding about when you clamp it on the table.
00:23I've got a rubber pad down here as well. This sliding guide here bolts onto the back.
00:36These screws here hold the jaws to the crossbar. The crossbar gets screwed to a spring-loaded guide which goes through the body here.
00:50And the tension on this one is very, very high.
00:54Ok, let me do that. Locks there.
01:00And then what we want to do is...
01:04Ok, this is a little bit difficult. Very high spring tension.
01:10So we've got a pull on that.
01:13Now one of the things you want to be very careful of because with this one in any way it's got such high spring tension is if you don't support it when you change it you're liable to pull this whole clamp off your table.
01:25That's how much spring tension there is.
01:28You don't want to get your fingers stuck in between there.
01:31Now you give yourself a nice little blood blister or something so it locks in there nicely.
01:38Oh hang on, let's see if we can see that.
01:41Can we see this v-block here, this guide in there?
01:47There's one up the top there as well. A notch up here to locate it.
01:53I don't know if we can see that.
01:59So it's very, very solid.
02:02Locks in there nicely.
02:05Ah, the things to complain about.
02:09Right.
02:10This guide, adjustable guide system here, was very loose.
02:17So I had to clamp down on the sides here to squeeze it in a little bit.
02:22To add some tension to this so that when you're sharpening your knife it doesn't move around.
02:29Alright, so basically while you're doing this you do not want this thing moving around because that's basically going to change your angle and you're not going to have a very mechanically accurate bevel.
02:45So I just tighten it up and now there's no slop there.
02:49It's nice and firm which is good.
02:52The other thing was, these screws here, the thread is very coarse.
03:02They've got a very, very coarse thread.
03:05So when you tighten them up you don't really have much mechanical advantage to tighten it up
03:14because it's such a coarse thread.
03:17They loosen very easily which is why you want your pliers and you want to nip them up with pliers.
03:24So these little screws here, nip them up with pliers so that your jaws don't come loose.
03:29Other than that, it does exactly what it's supposed to do.
