00:00The Pining Hindu Association has raised concerns over the misuse of subsidized cooking oil
00:07by suppliers who repackage and resell it as prayer oil at inflated prices.
00:15In the statement, the group said subsidized cooking oil, which retails at RM2.50 per liter,
00:22was being repurposed and sold as prayer oil at RM8.20 per liter or more,
00:28a profit margin of over 228%.
00:32It's said the issue was not new, as domestic trade and cost-of-living ministry officers
00:39had caught traders engaged in similar practices before.
00:44In January, for instance, a Johor man was caught by the ministry's officers
00:49repacking 5,100 bottles of subsidized cooking oil as prayer oil.
00:54PHA urged the ministry to intensify its monitoring efforts
01:00and conduct thorough inspections of the sourcing and pricing of prayer oil
