00:00Hello!
00:03There are a lot of people who are familiar with it.
00:07They say,
00:09It's not true. The oil is not rising.
00:11It's only rising in Malaysia.
00:13Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today hit out at a claim by a renowned ulama
00:18that Malaysia has been the only country to see an increase in fuel prices
00:22following the conflict in the Middle East.
00:24He said such claims were inaccurate and would confuse the public.
00:29Anwar said the ulama's take on the matter was superficial,
00:32but added that because it was interwoven with Quranic and religious teachings,
00:36it led many to believe him.
00:38He did not name the ulama in question,
00:41but was believed to be referring to past President Abdul Hadi Awang,
00:44who had questioned the increase in diesel price in West Malaysia.
00:49Speaking yesterday, Hadi said such an increase was not imposed in Sabah and Sarawah
00:53and lacked a solid basis.
00:55The Marang MP said linking fuel price hikes to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East,
01:01including Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz,
01:03should not be a means to justify the increase in diesel price for peninsular Malaysia.
01:08The retail price of diesel in peninsular Malaysia until April 15th is set at RM6.72 per litre.
