00:00Leeds United's return to the Premier League has been met with much excitement across the whole of West Yorkshire for everyone who supports Leeds United and is associated with the club.
00:10However, Leeds United and everyone who is associated with the club will also know that it is a huge step up from the Championship to the Premier League and transfers into the club are certainly a requirement to help Leeds compete at the top flight of English football.
00:28Leeds may have won 100 points in the Championship last season but the step up to the Premier League is so vast in today's day and age in modern football that that squad that was so good in the Championship might not be able to cut it in the Premier League and they will need reinforcements as well.
00:43They've already made a good start in bringing in Lucas Nemeche from Germany, a forward who claims to love scoring goals but perhaps Leeds need more as well certainly in midfield and in full-back departments too.
00:56So, to look at who Leeds may need, let's go now to Lee Sobert of the Yorkshire Evening Post.
01:04Lee, certainly for Leeds they're going to need transfers in this summer. We've had one, we're perhaps going to have another one very soon as well.
01:11But, how important is it that Leeds get the summer right, bring in these players and also who else might they need and what else needs strengthening within that squad in terms of their positions throughout the field as well.
01:25Certainly, Leeds will need a lot but what can you nail down in terms of exactly what is needed to make sure that they are competitive in the transfer market and in the Premier League next season?
01:34Well, I think it will be the difference between staying up and not basically. I don't think that's an exaggeration, I think that's probably the truth and Lucas Nemeche is a good start as a good piece of business on a free.
01:48The other thing to say with him is that, you know, obviously you could look at it quite rightly like you have and say if he comes in and he's a squad player and just chips in a bit then great.
01:56But I think he'll come in and think, you know, he'll have his sights set on being first choice striker.
01:59I'm not saying he's going to be but that's the way he'll look at it and he's obviously like, you know, he is highly thought of.
02:04So, as I say, he might prove a bit of a better signing than people think but they're going to need an awful, awful lot more.
02:08And, you know, the talk after he came in was they were basically looking at, you know, at least five significant additions this summer.
02:15Might need more than that, to be honest. Still in the market for a striker as well as Metcher.
02:19I think that's key. I think it's absolutely essential to get another striker.
02:23Obviously, the main talk is Rodrigo Manez at Fulham. We've had bits and bobs about Beto and Callum Wilson as well.
02:29But whoever it is, they're going to have to get another striker, I think.
02:31One where almost, you know, they're going to come in and score goals, you know, like a big signing almost.
02:36Like, last time around, obviously, Leeds signed Rodrigo as a record signing.
02:40I mean, something similar to that probably, you know, meant not saying another record signing but something, you know, of that ilk, I think, is probably what they need.
02:47And then also, you know, the number 10 position, when you look at it from an attacking perspective,
02:51obviously, Brendan Aronson, always heavily recalled upon by Daniel Farker.
02:55He's been very, very loyal to him in that position but massive question marks over whether he can do it in the Premier League on his return.
03:01So, that's definitely something that, well, they will be looking at. I don't think there's any doubt about that.
03:05Obviously, Gus Hamer at Sheffield United is one of the names talked about there.
03:08But they'll be looking all over. There'll be targets left, right and centre and there's speculation and names linked all over the shop.
03:13So, you know, there's no point going for every single name.
03:16But, I mean, thereafter, left back is so obvious.
03:18That sticks out like a sore thumb because Junior Firpo, you know, it's expected that he'll probably go to Real Batiste.
03:23And, you know, the main alternative, Sam Byram, is out of contract in the summer.
03:26So, you know, left back is obviously something, you know, Gabriel Gudmundsson, someone been looked at at Lille, Sweden International.
03:34But that's obviously a key area.
03:36Goalkeeper is another one.
03:37You know, it's not rocket science.
03:38Obviously, Melier lost his place at the back end of last season.
03:41Carl Dalot came in and did very, very well.
03:43But, you know, can Carl Dalot be first choice keeper in the Prem?
03:46He'll obviously hope so and probably fancy it.
03:48But, I mean, Leeds, you know, it's such a key position goalkeeper.
03:51You've got to get that right.
03:51And then centre midfielder, I mean, you might look at that and think, well, is that one of the areas where, you know, the possibly strongest when you've got sort of Ampadu and Tanaka and Gruev as well?
04:00But you've lost Rothwell.
04:02So, you know, who obviously was on loan.
04:03So, that's somewhere else they're looking at.
04:05And obviously, Habib Diara, a lot of talk about him and also Noah Siddiqui, two players there.
04:09So, that's evidently somewhere they're looking at.
04:11So, I mean, literally, I've gone through there and basically gone through near enough half a team, you know.
04:15And I think that's probably what it will need, to be honest.
04:19Talk of 100 mil spending, et cetera.
04:21There are, you know, or there are thereabouts maybe a bit more.
04:23But that doesn't get you a lot these days if, you know, if you're not shrewd and the recruitment's not right.
04:28So, it's got to be absolutely bang on.
04:30They've got to get every position covered.
04:31They've got to get quality and not just numbers.
04:33And I think if they do that, which I expect they probably will do, I think they know what they're doing, obviously.
04:38Then I think they'll probably be able to, you know, should be good enough to stay up.
04:40But it's key that they get all those done.
04:43So, let's go ahead and get to that one.
04:43So, let's go ahead and get all those.
04:45Let's go ahead and get all those.
04:45Well, let's do that.
04:45Let's go ahead and get all those.
