Daniel Wales and Lee Sobot discuss Leeds United’s top transfer targets for the summer window to come.

00:00for league united their promotion to the premier league has left them in a situation where

00:06yes they have a good squad that was very suited to winning the championship gaining 100 points

00:13clearly a lot of talent in that team but because now of the gap that exists between the championship

00:20and the premier league at present with of course all six of the last promoted teams going straight

00:28back down to the championship following their promotion to the premier league meaning leads

00:32need acquisitions and strengthening in depth to their squad to give them the best chance of of

00:39breaking that trend and surviving in the premier league next season certainly it won't be easy for

00:46them at all because other teams also invested and they still struggled so leads need to make sure that

00:52when they do invest they get that investment right so let's go now to lee sobert of the yorkshire

00:59evening post lee i think it's fair to say that leads could probably do with recruitment in all areas

01:05of their squad certainly a lot of positions that need covering but we do live in a psr dominated

01:11world so you can't just splash the cash wherever you want so what should be the priorities for leads

01:16this summer and how should they go about spending their money to make sure that they get the best

01:21quality for the cash that they part with well i don't think there's i don't think there's many

01:26positions that you can't look at really i think you're going you know back up to the premier league

01:30which is a you know completely different you know stratosphere of football to the championship these

01:34days i mean obviously goalkeeper is going to be a big one because obviously el amelier you know

01:38coming out of the side towards the end of last season carl dalo coming in dalo did a fantastic job but

01:42you know you think they'll probably go in for a keeper obviously talk of um keller um at liverpool but

01:48brentford sounds like a ring for him so we'll wait and see what happens on that front he won't be the

01:52only one though all these positions they'll be looking at various players obviously you know

01:55it's not just a case of like going looking at one one target left back is obviously becomes a massive

02:00thing if ferpo goes better talk about simic acid liverpool but again you know that's just talk

02:05nothing ever nothing real concrete um wing is going to be a bit wing is an interesting one because

02:10obviously a lot depends on what happens with solomon if they can get solomon back obviously then

02:14you know that's a massive signing which would probably feel comparable really to when they got

02:18roden back i suppose obviously different position and that'll be you know a massive boost and would

02:22change the picture somewhat if not then you are looking at wingers i think not that said obviously

02:26jack harrison's come back so it remains to be seen what happens there we've said for weeks and weeks

02:31well months and months probably even years actually on these shows and stuff about the need for number 10

02:35at leeds so there's no surprise at all that gus hamer um chef united is someone they're looking at

02:41obviously someone we looked at he looked at leeds looked at last summer so not not rocket science

02:46to work out that once they didn't go up in the playoffs that the leeds are obviously going to

02:48be looking at him so that's something that obviously is one to watch and then strikers

02:52another one obviously you know i mean peru did absolutely fantastically of course in the in the

02:56championship winning the golden boot and deserves the crack at the top flight um but he has never

03:00played premier league football and especially at that level you need guaranteed goals really so

03:04no surprise they've already been linked with uh you know various strikers callum wilson newcastle

03:09beto whatever and we talked about the other week but you know they're all just names being bandied

03:13about at the moment you know nothing particularly concrete what i will say is and i think you would

03:16add to it there is that the recruitment's absolutely key you know i go back and i'd look at it in terms

03:21of what they did in the summer of 2020 when they went up and you look it's quite staggering when you

03:24look back at it now that two of the players they brought in one was rodrigo who was obviously a

03:29record signing at the time um and you know probably didn't quite reach the heights that that had been

03:33hoped for but was still a very very big player for leeds and got a lot of goals and another one was

03:37rafinha um i mean that's saying all about like you know what the sort of thing you need i'm not

03:42saying go out and get you know you need to go out and get someone who's going to potentially win a

03:44ballon d'or or whatever um but you know that is the sort of it feels like you need to like unearth

03:49a gem you know somewhere along the lines if possible so it's a huge huge summer for the recruitment team

03:54i think obviously the thinking and the idea is probably at leeds a bit of a mix in terms of like

04:00you know going for like sort of like championship players possibly but also proven premier league

04:04experience and also a bit looking on the continent and that sounds about right really um but you know

04:09there's a few positions you've gone through there and i mean you've basically gone for nearly every

04:13position haven't we really so i don't think you know to cause daniel falk's phrase i don't think

04:17you can afford to fall asleep on any position but really but um it's a massive massive summer um

04:21you know people talk about 100 million or whatever and stuff it doesn't get you that much these days

04:26so what you you know what you are spending has got to be you know true true business and um

04:30yeah um ruffini was about 17 million wasn't he so another one of those would do very nicely indeed

04:35but um we shall wait and see huge huge summer it's but it's not you know it's no exaggeration

04:39to say that this summer and the recruitment will be the difference between um between staying up
