22 June - National weather forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, hope you've had a wonderful weekend.
00:03We are transitioning into this new week on quite a showery theme,
00:08all courtesy of an area of low pressure set just to the north of the UK,
00:12and these frontal systems transitioning west to east are continuing to filter in those showers for
00:17many regions. Some of those could be on the heavy side, maybe even the odd rumble of thunder,
00:22particularly across northern regions. There's the chance though that many of us could see a touch
00:27of rain during this forthcoming night. They are pushing in on quite a brisk westerly wind,
00:32and those winds are also filtering in some fresher conditions, so after quite a few
00:36humid sticky nights recently, it should hopefully be a tad more comfortable for sleeping for many of us.
00:42Towns and cities in the north generally dropping back to 10, 13 degrees Celsius,
00:46a touch milder towards the south, overnight lows of 16 for the likes of London and Southampton.
00:52Those winds will pick up in strength on Monday, particularly around the Northern Isles where
00:56they could reach gale strength along coastal districts, and some longer spells of rain will
01:00push through here. A scattering of showers continuing for northern and western regions,
01:05but they'll tend to be lighter tomorrow compared to those we have seen around today,
01:08and actually if you're to the east of higher ground, you may manage to stay largely dry.
01:12The most prolonged sunshine though will be across the southern half of the UK,
01:16and it should feel pleasant in that sunshine, particularly if you're out of the breeze,
01:19temperatures peaking at around 24 degrees Celsius, 16 to 18 further north and west.
01:26As we transition from Monday into Tuesday, we're going to see another frontal system just slip
01:32its way in from the west. You'll notice quite a tight squeeze in the isobars means we're holding
01:36on to that brisk westerly wind in accompaniment with this. It will be bringing some longer spells
01:41of rain, particularly heavy along some western hills. Again, those to the east may manage to stay
01:46largely dry, but there'll be more of a cloud around in general on Tuesday, perhaps low enough to
01:51provide some fog around the coasts and moors down towards the southwest. A slight change in our wind
01:57direction though to a south westerly means the humidity will also be rising again, particularly for
02:03southern regions of the UK, and those temperatures could also climb up a touch more, up to 26 degrees
02:09Celsius for some towns and cities. Generally further towards the north, it will be reasonably similar in
02:15terms of those temperatures on Tuesday. Again, 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. We'll have plenty more updates
02:21on what you can expect throughout the rest of the week, of course, so do stay tuned for those, and we'll
02:25see you again very soon. Bye-bye.
