Lady Vice Chairman of the People's National Movement Camille Robinson Regis has broken her silence on the infighting in the party since its defeat at the polls on April 28.
00:00In a Facebook post today, Camille Robinson-Regis, lady vice chairman of the People's National Movement, expressed deep sadness over the PNM's internal election being turned into the bashing of those who genuinely care for the party and country.
00:17She recalled when Dr. Keith Rowley challenged Patrick Manning for political leadership, although she supported Manning and was a frontline speaker, not one day, she said, did she see the need to ill-speak Dr. Rowley or those supporting him.
00:33In her post, she says, quote, we didn't need to bring down one for the other to win.
00:38The lady vice chairman says the only consequence at the end of the internal election must be that the best person for each position emerges as winner.
00:48She calls it sad to see Dr. Rowley under attack from persons whose political career he resurrected and whom he entrusted with high office.
00:59While she did not name any person or persons, the sole contender for the post of political leader Penelope Beckles has openly said,
01:08the PNM has lost its way, resulting in the election defeat.
01:12She doubled down on this during her address at a public meeting at the Buko Community Center, Tobago, earlier this week.
01:21When you move from two to zero, or when we move from in total control of the THA to have one person,
01:29after years of continuous control, and after breaking a mold where Mr. McKenzie was a lone person for many years,
01:40and we brought ourselves to where we were, and then we take a dive, it had to be painful.
01:47We start doing a little bit of forgiveness, and we start getting ready for elections.
01:54It is not an easy exercise, but we cannot move forward if we don't find a way to say what is bothering us,
02:03and why we are where we are, and how we begin to get to where we are, where we want to be.
