00:00A two-time Super Bowl winner and a legendary New England Patriot, Tully Banter-Cain, ladies and gentlemen.
00:09Hello, hello.
00:10Tully, great to see you. It's been a while.
00:13It's been a while. Great to be seen.
00:15You are, by the way, very popular up here. We hung out for a little bit last night, me, you, and Wiggs.
00:22And the fans, they never forget. Is that a New England thing?
00:27Oh, yeah. There's no memory loss out here.
00:30Yeah, it is. It's unique.
00:33When people say, oh, that player is not going to make it there because the fans and boss,
00:38do you buy into that, or do you think it actually helps when it comes to a player's performance?
00:44I think it helps. I think if you come in thinking that you're just Mr. All World
00:49and the fans are just going to embrace you off the bat, it kind of leaves a bad precedent.
00:54So, to have a little mud on your face coming in and a little thumb on your forehead,
00:58I think it's good for any player.
01:00What do you think? How do you think these guys look this season?
01:03I think they look great. I mean, coming off of last year, they had a pretty good core group step up,
01:08but they had some big holes, and I think they filled them with the draft.
01:11So, with Vrabel back at the helm, I feel good.
01:15Guy you played with.
01:16And what do you make of Bill and where he – what is currently going on with him?
01:26Is it somewhat shocking to you?
01:29Oh, shocking?
01:30Yes.
01:31No.
01:32No?
01:32No.
01:33He's a completely different person.
01:35Yeah, yeah.
01:36I mean, that's what happens, you know, the 30, 40 years of looking at men, the same man every day.
01:42You know, you kind of – you get a little –
01:45You turn 70 and you're a different guy.
01:48Exactly.
01:49Yeah.
01:49You know, brighter horizons.
01:50Right.
01:50Especially when your girl's 24.
01:52Does every Patriots player, former Patriots player, dread that question now?
01:57Like, as soon as you hear the words Bill Belichick,
01:59are you worried that they're going to ask about the 24-year-old girlfriend?
02:01Absolutely.
02:02Yes.
02:02Yeah, it's synonymous.
02:05Yeah, she puts the chicken belly, you know what I mean?
02:10I haven't heard that one yet.
02:11That is a t-shirt.
02:12Yeah, that is.
02:14Tully, what's the best line anonymously one of your ex-teammates has had about her?
02:18I'm sure you guys text about this.
02:21You watched – where were you when you saw this Sunday morning CBS interview
02:25where he had that sweatshirt on with the holes in it?
02:27I think I was in the shower.
02:30I think he needed to go in one.
02:34But what do you think he ends up doing win-wise down there?
02:37Like, do you think he's successful?
02:38Do you think he stays there for an extended period of time?
02:41Do you think he's done?
02:42I mean, he's got a lot to work with, obviously.
02:45But he's a winner.
02:46So I don't think that it's going to be a challenge too big for him.
02:49It's going to probably take a year or two to get the recruits in that he wants.
02:53But he's got some great assistant coaches.
02:55He's got guys coming to visit and hyping the young guys up.
02:59Drake May doesn't hurt being an alum.
03:01So, yeah, I think he might need a year or two.
03:04But we'll see what happens with the side chick or the village chick.
03:08Yeah, yeah.
03:10That is crazy.
03:12The chick on his side, sorry.
03:14Yeah.
03:14You brought up recruits.
03:18Are you feeling like NIL?
03:20I'll separate them at, like, NIL and Portal.
03:23But is that a good thing for college football?
03:25You played at UC Berkeley.
03:28Is that a good thing or a bad thing for college football?
03:32It's still yet to be determined.
03:34But so far, it feels like a bad thing.
03:35So, I wish he was around when I played.
03:39I'll say that much.
03:39Completely, completely.
03:40Did you hear what he just said, though?
03:42Yeah.
03:43I wish he was around when I played.
03:44Yeah.
03:44That's what you base your whole entire opinion on.
03:48Oh, yeah.
03:49That's not what it's – I mean, if it's a bad thing for the sport,
03:51it's a bad thing for college football.
03:53But I feel like it's a good thing for these kids because, I mean,
03:56what's the chances that, you know, these kids are making it to the NFL
03:59or making it to the NBA?
04:01So, if you can make a decent amount of money in college
04:05and be able to use that to start your career and whatever that is, why not?
04:11I mean, coaches make – Belichick's making $10 million down at North Carolina.
04:16But what do you mean by a decent amount of money for a college player?
04:19Well, I mean, let's say – I'm not talking about the top of the top, right?
04:23Those guys are making $5 million, $6 million.
04:25I'm talking about a guy who goes in there and, let's say,
04:27he plays a couple years and he's able to bank, you know, $300,000, $400,000.
04:31Yeah, I mean, if they can do that, that does drive a hard argument.
04:35But it's the guys that aren't making that.
04:37And how do they get to that point?
04:39Got to put it out.
04:40I was a disgruntled 18-, 19-, 20-year-old going into college.
04:44So the minute I wasn't getting what I wanted, I wanted out.
04:47Right, right.
04:47So I understand that these kids, if they're not getting the starter right away,
04:52who else is out there?
04:53Who can pick me up?
04:54But if you have a player that's making millions of dollars
04:57and they're 18 years old, doesn't that hurt their work ethic?
05:00I mean, you hope that they're going to have it regardless,
05:03but isn't this going to change the complete landscape of guys
05:06that are putting their blood, sweat, and tears into the sport that they love
05:09and they stay with the school because they love the school and the pageantry
05:13and then they're going to work so hard once they get to the NFL?
05:15You're banking $10 million while you're in college?
05:19Like, that's going to change the entire thing.
05:20Yeah, it's just, I mean, college is becoming a win now just like the NFL is.
05:25And so, I mean, teams and organizations,
05:28they don't have time to really groom people through the system.
05:31We need to win now.
05:31And that's why you're seeing these big NIL deals
05:34and this big, you know, pay me now kind of money.
05:37But I do think over time it's going to unravel a little bit
05:40with some of these other players.
05:41And Tully will tell you, like, just like I've seen it,
05:44guys are getting $50 million.
05:45We're getting $60 million in the NFL and weren't putting the work in.
05:48And I know there are families, a lot of the families need the money
05:52pretty quickly to help, you know, get out of wherever they are coming from.
05:56But what if there was a plan where you could kind of do both,
05:59where you do like a 401k style that's not until you're 65,
06:03but like the money goes to you, it's guaranteed to you,
06:06it's in some investment for that they have like a collective investment.
06:10Who the hell knows?
06:10I'm not a financial guy at all.
06:12But like what if there was a way to pay,
06:14but it's not like $5 million, you show up at college,
06:16and you buy a Ferrari and drive around, you know what I mean?
06:19Or you don't get it until you graduate.
06:20Right.
06:20Yeah, something like that.
06:21Or you complete your three years or whatever you say you're going to do.
06:24Good luck on that.
06:25Yeah, right.
06:26Right.
06:27Exactly.
06:27My mother would have been like, what?
06:28They're not giving us our money now?
06:30Uh-uh.
06:31You ain't going to that college.
06:32Yeah.
06:34We got bills to pay around, yeah.
06:35I know.
06:36I just said that.
06:36If there's things you need, obviously,
06:38but if it's, you know, $5 million and you keep $2 million of it
06:42for later in life,
06:43I think it'd probably be better than when you were spending it.
06:44No, I get what you're saying.
06:45And I think they, like, if you look at Allen Iverson,
06:48Reebok did something like that with him where they put, like,
06:50you know, like, as soon as he hit 50,
06:53he got, like, a $50 million check for it.
06:55Right.
06:56I get what you're saying.
06:57They could do it like Shohei, $2 million a year,
06:58and then all the money at the end.
06:59Yeah.
06:59Like, that's a good idea.
07:00I would be all for that.
07:02But you know how it is, Curtis.
07:03There's so many greedy people out here.
07:05They're like, yeah, don't put –
07:06we want all our money so we can get the interest off of it.
07:08That's true.
07:09Yeah.
07:09I don't know if you can give a college kid $2 million just in any universe.
07:14Yeah.
07:14He doesn't spell well.
07:15Right.
07:16He needs a good support system around him.
07:18Absolutely.
07:18If he has a good support system, you can get away with it.
07:21Think about the leeches, though, that you could do this.
07:22You went to Georgia.
07:23Like, the people that would be around there.
07:24Oh, I got a great plan for you.
07:26Even great players in the NFL get duped by these people that end up stealing all their money
07:32or people saying they're doing their business handling or whatever.
07:34Like, think of that when you're 19.
07:36Right.
07:37That's why it's all about the support system, Curtis.
07:39Yeah.
07:39You know, like Arch Manning.
07:40You know, he has a great support system, and he has, you know, two uncles that have been there,
07:46a grandfather that has been there.
07:48Like, if you don't have that around you and you don't know about money, which a lot of these kids don't,
07:52you know, coming from whatever environment they come from, whether it's, you know,
07:55a country kid or a kid in the city, and it's just – it's all about – you're right, Chris.
07:59It's about that support system.
08:01Yep.
08:01But were you surprised that it didn't work out better for Gerard Mayo?
08:08Yeah, I think they kind of – they didn't give him enough time.
08:11I think one year, one and done is kind of – I don't know.
08:13What do you – dirty.
08:14Say it.
08:15They did him dirty.
08:16They did him dirty.
08:16They did him dirty.
08:17I mean, especially knowing the draft that he had and, like, he had that draft pick,
08:22the high top five pick, and doesn't even get to use it.
08:25Doesn't even – like, he worked for that top pick, ironically.
08:29But I think it's – yeah, it's kind of tough to see a guy who, you know,
08:33was underbilled for so long get one year and get shot out of there.
08:36Yeah.
08:38So, win total, shy, eight and a half currently still?
08:42Are you over –
08:43That is correct.
08:43You're over under that.
08:48Who do they start the game?
08:49Who's their opener against?
08:51Vegas Raiders.
08:52Yeah, the Raiders.
08:53All right.
08:53That's a confidence builder right there.
08:54I'm all about getting that confidence build in early.
08:58I think they can win definitely eight games this year.
09:01Okay.
09:01Eight and a half.
09:02Eight.
09:02We'll see.
09:02Okay.
09:03And will you be there when it comes to Tom Brady's statue night at Gillette?
09:09And what do you think the image should be?
09:12Wow.
09:13I think – I mean, I won't be there personally.
09:15I have a beach football event that day.
09:17Otherwise, I'd be there.
09:19I just hope it doesn't look like what they did to Dwayne Wade down there.
09:23Everybody says the same thing.
09:25If he comes out looking like Jim Carrey or something like that.
09:29What do you want, Curtis, currently as far as the image you want?
09:32Oh, I want it nude.
09:34But –
09:34And accurate.
09:36Right.
09:37Please.
09:37Well, I can actually –
09:38Anatomically correct?
09:39I have it by memory.
09:40No, I think the scene on the stage after the greatest game of all time,
09:49the comeback 28-3 Super Bowl.
09:50The head on the hat.
09:51No.
09:52Where he's asked – Terry Bradshaw's here.
09:54And he's like, I want to say thanks to the fans of New England who's been
09:57with us all year.
09:58And we're bringing this sucker home.
09:59And he, like, has the Lombardi outstretched.
10:03So you have Tom Brady like that.
10:05The best – his defining moment, the greatest – that game gave him five,
10:11gave him more than Montana.
10:12That comeback that year he was suspended the first four games.
10:15I feel like all of that is what he should be doing.
10:17We're bringing this sucker home!
10:20Wiggy said to me yesterday he wants throwing motion,
10:24and then he wants a smaller adjunct statue,
10:30Wiggy Snow Bowl catching at the end.
10:33Well-deserved.
10:34I would like that.
10:35Yeah.
10:36I don't know.
10:37Do they do that?
10:38Generally, when it's a statue for one guy, do they include somebody else?
10:42I mean, it's not really – not that common.
10:44But I like it.
10:45I mean, I like it.
10:46I like it.
10:47I like – I mean, we might not know who Tom Brady is if it wasn't for my ten catches.
10:51Let's go.
10:51Let's go.
10:52Let's talk about it.
10:53They could make Wiggy's part, like, rolling.
10:54So they could roll it in for some games, roll it out for others.
10:57Play action fake.
10:58Brady looks, throws in the end zone.
11:00Touchdown to Jerome Wiggins.
11:02All right.
11:06You brought up beach football, and you guys started a beach football league.
11:12Is this your second year?
11:13This is our second year in Hampton.
11:15Okay.
11:15And you're looking for people to – hardos, who still have it, to come out and play, right?
11:22Yeah.
11:22It's an open tryout.
11:23Anyone above 18 can come try out.
11:25We had a 65-year-old last year came out there.
11:29Had a bunch of knee braces and ankle braces and arm braces, but he did it.
11:33He did it?
11:33Yeah.
11:34So how does it work?
11:36You show up here.
11:36What's the date?
11:37When is –
11:38So it's the weekend, July 18th through the 20th, right in front of Bernie's Beach, right
11:42on the beach, right there.
11:43Yeah.
11:43And the tryouts will be on the 19th, and then we'll have exhibition and tournaments on the 19th and 20th.
11:49Okay.
11:50And you have a bunch of former Patriots guys who come out and play with everybody?
11:54We got former guys coming out.
11:56Dexter McCluster came out last year, Ole Miss Hall of Fame.
12:00Kansas City Chiefs leading punt returner all time.
12:03And he put on a show last year, and he's coming out again this year.
12:07Oh, wow.
12:07Same thing.
12:08I think Wiggy might – we might see Wiggy in the red zone this year.
12:11No, no, no.
12:12I will stand there and watch.
12:14Extreme Achilles risk at your age, please.
12:16No, I will stand on the sidelines and watch.
12:20Yeah, you don't want Aaron Rodgers.
12:21No, I do not want Aaron Rodgers.
12:23Wiggy will be doing the play-by-play that nobody asked for.
12:25That's it.
12:26That's it.
12:27I'll do the pre- and post-game interviews.
12:29I am not running.
12:30I was watching it.
12:31But the highlights, and it's like full-on contact tackle football.
12:38And, no, I am not getting hit.
12:41As it should be.
12:42The NFL used to be that.
12:46So, okay, so how do guys get in it if they want to get in it?
12:49So you register on beachfootballleague.com.
12:52Once again, I'll say beachfootballleague.com.
12:54You can register right now.
12:55It's free, open sign-up until July 1st.
12:59You can go to BFLUSA on Instagram to follow us.
13:03But, like I said, it's open tryouts.
13:05We'll have Sun Cruiser and Smutty Nose.
13:08We'll have a nice beer garden down there for everybody.
13:10We're doing a party up here at Bernie's.
13:12I believe Ty Law is coming through, like Ty Law is coming here.
13:15Well, Ty Law is coming through here, and he's not here yet.
13:17So, I don't know.
13:17So, you never know, but allegedly the law is coming.
13:21Awesome.
13:22And we've got some other guys.
13:23Patrick Chung, myself, Jamie Collins is coming out, Jarvis Green.
13:28I'm trying to bring the band out.
13:30And, by the way, Ty Law, huge disrespect from ESPN.
13:35I was listening to Jones and Keefe yesterday, as I do every day.
13:38I love the grab bag.
13:39It always makes me laugh.
13:40But they had a bizarre caller about a woman being aroused by Keefe,
13:47if you want to go check that out.
13:48Very strange.
13:49Oh, really?
13:49It was wild.
13:50I mean, he's a good-looking guy.
13:51Did we verify that it was an actual call?
13:55Or, I mean, Rich may have set that up.
13:57It may have been AI.
13:58It could have been an AI bot.
14:00But they had the all-quarter century team on ESPN.
14:04So, the last 25 years of the NFL, they put a roster together as you would build a team.
14:08Three quarterbacks, running backs, all that.
14:11Ty Law, not a cornerback.
14:12Really?
14:12Wow.
14:13Hall of Famer Ty Law, who won three Super Bowls as a shutdown corner on Marvin Harrison
14:18and those Colts teams.
14:19They changed the rules because of Ty Law.
14:22Who do they have?
14:22Gilmore?
14:23No, no Gilmore.
14:24I'll give you the full list.
14:25Revis.
14:26I'll get the full list.
14:27But Ty Law, I would like to get his thoughts on that.
14:29I believe it's Revis and Champ Bailey, Curtis.
14:31Oh, Champ Bailey.
14:32Georgia, right?
14:33Yeah.
14:33Champ was good.
14:34Who do they have for linebackers?
14:36Tully Banta-Cain.
14:37Yep.
14:38And Mike Vrabel.
14:39And Mike Vrabel.
14:40And Larry Izzo.
14:42Yes.
14:42If you need somebody special teams-wise.
14:44And Lonnie Paxton got screwed.
14:45They had a long snapper and he wasn't it.
14:47Who's a more famous long snapper than Lonnie Paxton?
14:49100%.
14:49All right, Tully Banta-Cain.
14:51Oh, are you able to choose?
14:54You won two Super Bowls, spent a considerable amount of time here.
14:58Are you able to choose a favorite moment in all of your time here as a New England Patriot?
15:04My favorite moment.
15:05Or after.
15:06Like your favorite Patriot-related moment.
15:08Yeah, there's so many good ones.
15:11Let's see.
15:13There's I Lost My Ring.
15:14That wasn't my favorite.
15:15There's Canada Jackson.
15:17We all know about that.
15:18Right.
15:19I would just say the confetti dropping on my face.
15:22Yeah.
15:22You know.
15:23First time.
15:23Yeah.
15:24The first one in Houston.
15:27Yeah.
15:27But the second one against the Philadelphia Eagles in Jacksonville, that one was special
15:32because my little brother was in the bathroom before the game wearing my Patriots jersey.
15:39And one of the Eagles fans next to him at the urinal wiped his hands off on his.
15:43What?
15:44Yeah.
15:45A 10-year-old boy.
15:47So.
15:48Are you serious?
15:48It's Philly fans, man.
15:49What a bunch of savages they are.
15:52Trash.
15:52I hate Philadelphia.
15:53We need to just get rid of it.
15:55It's an awful place.
15:57So wait.
15:59Wiped his hands on the jersey.
16:01Of a 10-year-old?
16:02On a 10-year-old boy.
16:02When he's at a urinal.
16:03Yeah.
16:04And then you guys went out.
16:05And then we went out and urinated on their jersey.
16:08Hey.
16:09All right.
16:11Tully Bannacane.
16:12A lot of stories about you in bathrooms.
16:14Like you leave your Super Bowl ring in one and then that.
16:18Yeah.
16:18But good.
