11 guns have been removed from the streets of Tobago today to this from senior superintendent
00:04
earl eli well for 2025 a total of 11 firearms have been removed from tobago which brings
00:14
to 41 the number of guns between last year and this year which to me is a lot for a small space
00:21
as tobago officer eli said crime is under control in tobago as officers continue their relentless
00:27
pursuit in the war against criminals yeah heading in a safe direction we are not quite as safe as we
00:36
would like it to be but we are getting there and we are getting there very quickly let's just share
00:42
some basic statistics with you at this time last year we would have had 10 murders at this time
00:52
with the corresponding period this year we have three murders which is three too many in my book
00:57
uh but the good news about that is that all three have been solved all three persons have been
01:03
charged and uh are before the courts last year this time we would have had 39 cases of of violent
01:10
offenses that's shooting and woundings yeah uh this year we have 12 for this period so we see a
01:18
significant reduction in the violent crimes a significant reduction in the murders and that's
01:24
the current trend that we are going on a 33 year old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted and beaten
01:31
after a confrontation with her former partner in mayaru according to reports the incident occurred on
01:36
june 6th at a residence on seaview lane pleasance road mayaru where the woman had been speaking with
01:43
the ex-boyfriend the victim reported the incident to the mayaru police station on wednesday the suspect was
01:49
located but escaped by jumping through a window later around 6 30 p.m he was apprehended during an
01:56
exercise in the mayaru district and remains in custody at the mayaru police station four automated
02:04
teller machines were severely damaged at the first citizens bank branch located at independence square in
02:11
port of spain the estimated cost of the damage is 33 000 at approximately 4 a.m on wednesday a security
02:20
officer from amalgamated security services limited stationed at the bank's credit card center on shacon
02:26
street was alerted by a pedestrian to the incident a report was made to the police later that day
