00:00I'm talking to Mike Aarons of the committee member of the Waverley Singers about their
00:06latest concert in their Platinum Jubilee year. Over to you Mike. Hi thank you very much Paul.
00:11Well it's an exciting year for us. We're 70 and we've got a terrific range of different events.
00:19We had a very good Elijah concert in March and we've got one coming up on the 22nd of June in
00:25St Mary's Church in Frensham which is rather special because we've commissioned a new work by
00:32one of Britain's most up-and-coming composers Owen Park and the work is called Five Nocturnes and the
00:40concert is called Midsummer Nocturnes and the great thing about this is that it's made possible by a
00:46generous legacy from our former secretary and long-standing choir member Joe Reader who lived
00:54in Frensham who actually farmed at Pierpont Farm in Frensham and Joe very kindly left us a legacy to
01:01sort of look after the future of the Waverley Singers and one way we decided to spend it is by
01:06commissioning this new work from Owen Park. It's a hauntingly beautiful work. It sets five different
01:12poems about night time to music. It's not very long and it's accompanied by a range of other works
01:22mainly for choir piano and cello. We've also got a clarinet guest clarinet so I think it's going to
01:31be a really really interesting concert. Sunday the 22nd of June here it is St Mary's Church in Frensham
01:38at five o'clock and there's complimentary bubbly and soft drinks afterwards.
