00:00Dr. Mahathir Mohamad's new platform to Unite the Malays, in which he has invited UMNO members to
00:06join, is nothing more than part of a repeated cycle of failed political experiments, says an
00:11UMNO leader. Kedah UMNO information chief Shaif al-Hazizi Zainul Abidin said the former prime
00:17minister has repeatedly failed to unite the Malays through other political platforms in the past,
00:22including Gerakan Tanahaye. He said Malay politics cannot be built on nostalgic rhetoric and repeated
00:28attempts to form new, loosely structured coalitions without a clear struggle or foundation.
00:34He said what is needed today is a commitment to strengthening existing political institutions
00:39that have proven their service to the Malays and the nation, not the formation of yet another
00:43splinter group. Yesterday, Mahathir invited UMNO members to join his Malay secretariat committee,
00:50formed in hopes of uniting the Malays and restoring Malay power in government.
00:54He said the coalition, which includes PAS and Versatu, is not a formal political party for now,
01:00but a broad umbrella to safeguard the political and economic future of the Malays.
01:04That is Roger Reza, FMT.
