00:00Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has described Chinese President Xi Jinping as
00:05very tough and extremely hard to make a deal with.
00:08This comes at a time when the White House has been suggesting that the two leaders
00:13could talk this week amid rising trade tensions.
00:18Washington and Beijing have blamed each other for violating a trade agreement
00:22reached in Switzerland on May 12.
00:24The deal included a 90-day suspension on most tariffs
00:28and a rollback of Chinese countermeasures imposed since April.
00:32However, China has not significantly eased restrictions on rare earth's exports,
00:37defying US expectations.
00:39On the other side, Beijing has also criticized US efforts to limit its access to advanced technology.
00:45Adding to the tension, a US trade court last week ruled that Trump exceeded his authority
00:50when he imposed many of the tariffs under emergency powers.
00:54Less than 24 hours later, a federal appeals court temporarily reinstated the tariffs,
01:00saying it would review the government's appeal.
