00:20So this case, the inspector's mother, must be a really tough room
00:25I reckon it must
00:28What I really want to help him solve it is just
00:32All we know is that she drowned at sea
00:37There's no weapon
00:40No suspect
00:43No apparent motive
00:45Mhm
00:48So what exactly are we searching her house for?
00:51You know what?
00:53I'm not entirely sure myself
00:55But maybe we'll know when we find it
00:59Mrs. Clementson, we're moving forward with the investigation into Donald's death
01:04So we might have some more questions
01:06Sorry
01:08So you really think that someone might have killed her?
01:17We're working on that basis
01:19Well, then whatever questions you got, you feel free to ask
01:23Sarge, I've got the inspector on the line
01:26He wants to speak with you
01:27Said you're not answering your phone
01:29Well, what's the point of voicemail if you're not going to use it?
01:32Sarge
01:33Got the inspector on the line
01:34He wants to talk to you
01:35Said you're not answering the phone
01:36How is he even doing that?
01:39I'm here, sir
01:42What do you need?
01:44All right, thanks, Officer Rose
01:46I've got it
01:47DS Thomas
01:49I've found something of interest
01:52You should head back to the station
01:53Okay, well, I'm almost done
01:55And he's hung up?
01:58You're Inspector Wilson
01:59He's very...
02:00Yes, he is
02:02So I was going over my mum's phone records
02:06And in the last year
02:08This number kept coming up
02:0917 phone calls, 28 texts
02:12It was registered
02:14To...
02:15A Roy Palmer
02:17I recognise him
02:18He runs and owns the fishing net
02:20That's the borrower at last night
02:22Go figure
02:23Anyway, I asked for the transcript of their text messages to be sent over
02:27And...
02:28It looks like they were friends
02:30But it was the last text that Dawna sent to Roy
02:33That caught my interest
02:35Thanks for coming by
02:38It was good to talk
02:40That was sent two hours before she drowned
02:42Which tells me he must have visited her earlier that morning
02:45So he's a possible new witness?
02:47Most definitely, yes
02:56Yes, Thomas speaking
03:00Okay
03:01Thanks for letting me know
03:05Sir, that was the lab
03:07They've got the boat wreckage from storage
03:09Thought we'd give it a second look
03:14Are you heading to the harbour?

03:16Yes, I am
03:17Yes, I am

03:34Yes, I am
03:36Yes, I am
03:37Yes, I am
03:38So get yourself down there for some old school dogs on by.
03:58Finally, just a word of warning.
04:00Some bad weather coming in today.
04:03Authorities have put a high risk warning out overnight.
04:06Saying there's a Category 4 storm brewing up just off the East Coast.
04:11So if you had any plans to head out to sea today, authorities are advising against it.
04:17Best thing is to stay inside and stay safe.
04:21Hey, Dawna.
04:36Uh-uh.
04:38Ray, what are you doing here?
04:40I woke up this morning thinking about your dad.
04:45Doesn't get any easier, does it?
04:47It just made me want to come over, check in, see how you're doing.
04:52Come in.
04:54I'll make some iced tea.
04:58So you didn't know we were police when we were in last night?
05:01Ha!
05:02I make a point of not sticking my nose in my customer's business, Inspector.
05:06Fair enough.
05:07Unless they're talking cricket, in which case, you cannot shut me up.
05:10My specialist subject, if I ever go on mastermind.
05:14Were you a fan at all?
05:15Yeah.
05:16I'm a football man myself.
05:17Ah, and we were getting on so well!
05:20Ha-ha!
05:20So, this case we're working on, Dawna Bray, you knew her, right?
05:27Yeah, yeah.
05:29To be honest, it was her dad I was closer with.
05:33He was a regular here.
05:34And it was through him you met Dawna?
05:36Yeah.
05:37When Irving got ill, dementia, she moved back in with him,
05:42and that was about a year before he passed.
05:45I used to, you know, check in on the old boy pretty regularly,
05:49and then when we lost him, I just tried to be there for Dawna as well.
05:54It's just that Dawna texted you the day she died,
05:58said, thanks for coming by, it was good to talk.
06:01Oh, yeah, what that was, I'd popped round earlier that morning,
06:06you know, just to see how she was coping.
06:08And how was she coping?
06:10Well, still missing her dad dreadfully, of course.
06:14We both were.
06:16Still am.
06:18And did she mention to you she was thinking of scattering her dad's ashes that day?
06:23No, she mentioned that it'd been playing on her mind that she hadn't done it yet,
06:27but no more than that, no.
06:29I mean, obviously, if I'd known she was going to do it that day,
06:34I would have warned her against it,
06:36and going out to sea with a storm coming in.
06:39So she said to you she was going to scatter her dad's ashes at sea?
06:44She must have at some point, I suppose.
06:46Do you remember when?
06:48Not precisely, no.
06:50It's just that we know Dawna applied for a permit to scatter her dad's ashes on a beach,
06:55and that was two weeks before she went to sea.
06:57So I'm just trying to work out why and at what point she changed her mind.
07:04Yeah, yeah, no, I mean, that does seem strange, yeah.
07:09Actually, now I come to think of it,
07:11I think probably maybe it was in that last week that she mentioned doing it at sea.
07:19I think, yeah.
07:24OK, well, um, thank you, Mr Palmer.
07:29If anything else comes to mind, you'll let us know, yeah?
07:32Look, Inspector, I...
07:34If you're treating Dawna's death as suspicious,
07:37what exactly do you think's happened?
07:39I mean, she went out to sea in a storm and drowned.
07:43How could that possibly be anything other than a terrible accident?
07:49No, we're working on that.
07:51Thanks again, Mr Palmer.
07:53You've been very helpful.
07:54I just keep putting it off.
08:12It's like the final goodbye.
08:14I don't know if I'm ready for that.
08:16I mean, if it's any consolation at all,
08:19I was exactly the same when my mother passed.
08:23But when I finally did it,
08:26scattered her ashes,
08:28it just felt right, you know?
08:33Like a release.
08:35For her and for me.
08:43Hey.
08:43Hey.
08:55Hey.
08:55Hey.
08:57Hey.
08:57Hey.
08:59Hey.
09:07Hey.
09:08That's it.
09:38Off you go.
09:45I need your help.
09:48No.
09:49What are your coordinates?
09:51I have no GPS.
09:53There's no mass inside.
09:55I don't know where you are.
09:57Evening, Inspector.
09:59Hello.
10:00Can we check the GPS on Dawna's phone?
10:03Verify the call came from where we think it did.
10:05Okay.
10:06Just come back from the search?
10:07Yeah.
10:08But we didn't find anything of relevance to the case, I'm afraid.
10:11But I did find these letters.
10:15Your mum sent them 50 years ago.
10:19Not long after giving birth to you.
10:21Right.
10:23And I think they're to your father.
10:25Charlie Wilson.
10:28You...
10:29You know him?
10:30I reached out.
10:32Not long before I came here.
10:34And um...
10:36Yeah.
10:37He didn't want to know.
10:40It doesn't look like he got them though because they were sent back.
10:44I assume it was Dawna that opened the letters.
10:50I started reading one but they're personal.
10:54I think they might explain why your mother gave you up.
10:58Well, I'll leave you to it.
10:59Mm-hmm.
11:00Yeah.
11:01I'll maybe look at these tomorrow.
11:04Yeah.
11:05Definitely tomorrow.
11:06Oh, that's it.
11:07Would think so?
11:08I'll leave you to.
11:09For those.
11:10Yeah.
11:11I know.
11:13For those.
11:14For them.
11:15Uh-huh.
11:16Goers.
11:17To make your parents feel right.
11:18To make those entsons.
11:20You, William.
11:21You're welcome.
11:22STEWARD bukan?
11:24Do you like to see your dad?
11:26Yeah.
11:27To do it!
11:28Yeah.
11:29Let's do it!
11:30Cool, son.
11:31To make money or not goers,
11:34and I'm just forsnim 차ahi.
11:35And it's the fact that Roy Palmer was the last person to speak to my mum
11:40before she went out to see him drown.
11:43I mean, what exactly did he say to her?
11:48Oh, no, please not him.
11:50Good morning.
11:51My two favourite detectives.
11:54D.I. Wilson and D.S.
11:58He's forgotten my name.
12:00Good to see you both.
12:02Definitely forgot my name.
12:05Mr. Fox.
12:06Call Mr. Lynn.
12:08I thought we only had the pleasure of your company every other Wednesday.
12:11I'll be around for a few days while I'm still getting up to speed.
12:13Well, aren't we the lucky ones?
12:15I love that about you Londoners.
12:17Pretend you being all grumpy when you're not cracks me up.
12:21You know what?
12:21We should get a drink sometime, the two of us.
12:23Shoot that breeze kind of thing.
12:25Oh, that would be nice for you, sir.
12:27You'd like that, wouldn't you?
12:30Well, I'm not...
12:30Don't worry.
12:31I'll email my secretary right now.
12:33It's something in the diary.
12:36So, uh, you were looking for something?
12:38I dropped by to pick up some case files.
12:41I'm reviewing all current and ongoing investigations.
12:44Officer Curtis kindly obliged.
12:46Anyway, I'll get out of your...
12:49hair.
12:51Good to see you, Inspector.
12:54Yeah.
12:55You're doing it again?
12:56The whole London thing?
12:59Kills me, man!
13:00I cannot believe they got rid of the commissioner for...
13:11That ninny.
13:16Morning, team.
13:17Morning, sir.
13:18Morning.
13:19How are we doing here?
13:20Well, we started doing background on Roy Palmer.
13:26He moved to St. Marie five years ago and bought the bar.
13:29Now, I reckon he needed to leave his life in the UK.
13:32He had just been made redundant, recently divorced,
13:36and was also done for drunk driving.
13:39I wouldn't say he's exactly made a go of it financially
13:42since he got here.
13:44Check show...
13:44Just a sec, sorry.
13:46Officer Rose, what are you doing?
13:49Oh, I saw something online.
13:51He said if there's something you don't want to forget,
13:54pretend you're holding a donut.
13:56To remind you there's something you need to remember.
13:59It's called the donut technique.
14:03Okay.
14:05Financial checks show that Mr. Palmer
14:08has been overstretched on his mortgage
14:10and his business isn't bringing in enough
14:12to cover his outgoings.
14:14Okay.
14:15Interesting.
14:17All right, Officer Rose.
14:19Donut time.
14:19Oh.
14:21Cha-cha.
14:22All right.
14:23So, the passport records show that
14:25Roy Palmer has been to the island once before.
14:28But, like, ages ago.
14:30When, exactly?
14:31April 1974.
14:34He would have been 16 at the time.
14:36Stayed at the Palm Royal Hotel with his parents.
14:39April 1974.
14:43That was nine months before I was born.
14:48You're...
14:48You're not saying Roy Palmer might be...
14:51No.
14:52I'm not.
14:53I know who my father is, and he's not Roy Palmer.
14:56But it was a coincidence.
14:58Well, I asked immigration people to check out your mother,
15:01and she was definitely on the island April 1974.
15:05Then your father must have been here too.
15:09So, my mother, my father, and Roy Palmer were here on St. Marie
15:14at the exact same time around 50 years ago.
15:20Thanks for coming in, Mr. Palmer.
15:22So, we know that Dawna Bray had a relationship with a teenage lad over 50 years ago.
15:29He was staying here with his family at the Palm Royal Hotel.
15:32Well, as were you at the exact same time.
15:35Wow.
15:36That is some serious digging you've been doing.
15:39Well, the first thing to say is it was a very long time ago,
15:42so the memory's a bit hazy, but yes, you're right.
15:45I did make friends with another lad who was staying at the Palm Royal.
15:48Charlie, his name was.
15:50We'd spend our days at the beach, you know, swimming, lazing about.
15:55And there was a bar we hung out at called the Flying Fish.
16:01A young local girl worked there.
16:04Dawna.
16:04Oh, right.
16:06Right, so she worked there back then.
16:08Hmm.
16:09Well, is that relevant?
16:11It's just that we know it's a place she used to go to more recently.
16:15Somewhere she liked, you know?
16:17I guess she had fond memories of the place.
16:21Anyway, she and Charlie just kind of hit it off.
16:26She started hanging out with us when she wasn't working,
16:29and they had what I guess you'd call a kind of holiday romance.
16:35I mean, it was more than that.
16:39More?
16:40Yeah, I think they fell in love.
16:42They had a couple of weeks together, saw each other every day,
16:45and then when it came time for Charlie to go home,
16:49they had a very tearful goodbye.
16:52Okay, so fast forward 50 years.
16:56Why'd you come back here?
16:59I was having a tough time living back in the UK,
17:03and I had some redundancy money,
17:05and I read about a bar, the fishing net being up for sale,
17:08and I don't know.
17:11After all these years, it just felt right coming back to the island.
17:15And it was just chance you buy a bar where Donna's father happened to drink?
17:20That's exactly what it was.
17:21And eventually you put two and two together?
17:24I knew that Irvin had a daughter, but I didn't know her name,
17:29and I never met her because she lived on another island.
17:31But then, when she came back to care for him...
17:34It's a small world, isn't it?
17:41Out of curiosity, the day Dorner Bray drowned,
17:46where were you when the storm hit?
17:48I was at the fishing net.
17:50With regulars.
17:51We holed up there.
17:53During the bad weather, I'll give you their details.
17:59All right, thank you for your help.
18:02Inspector?
18:02Doctor, Dalton Lee and Nathan Armstrong
18:06both confirmed that they were with Roy Palmer
18:10at his bar the entirety of this storm.
18:13But interestingly, they said they'd already given a statement.
18:18I, uh, I recognize their names from the coroner's report.
18:21They were waiting at the bar for Roy to open up
18:24when they saw Dorner heading out to sea.
18:27They called out to warn her about bad weather,
18:29but she didn't hear Roy arrived shortly after and opened up.
18:33It still comes back to Roy Palmer again.
18:38Something not right about it.
18:40About him.
18:41About all of it.
18:42But I have no idea how he managed to kill a woman
18:56who seemingly ventured out to sea by herself
18:58in the middle of a storm and drowned.
19:03Excuse me.
19:03All right, Donut Boy, what have you got?
19:09Totally forgot about that.
19:11Boy.
19:12So, in April 1974,
19:16while Roy Palmer was on holiday with his family,
19:19Palm Royal Hotel reported a theft.
19:22One of their guests had a very expensive ring stolen.
19:26No, it was never recovered.
19:27The perpetrator was never arrested.
19:31And it was insured for $80,000.
19:35I'm sure it's worth a lot more now.
19:41I've seen this ring before.
19:43To you, Dorner.
19:44Mum.
19:45D.S. Thomas, you're with me.
19:49Officer Rose, I want you to go back to Dorner Bray's house,
19:52check all the photographs of her
19:53to see if she's weighing that ring in any of them.
19:55All right.
20:05See?
20:07It's the same one.
20:09Same shape, same stone.
20:11Sir, talk to me.
20:16I've got some photos of Dorner.
20:18She looks about 18 in a couple.
20:21And then someone, she's a bit older.
20:24Early 30s, maybe.
20:26And she's wearing that ring.
20:30And all of them.
20:33So, what are you thinking, sir?
20:35I'm thinking, where's the ring now?
20:38Because it wasn't on her hand when she was pulled out of the sea.
20:45So, where is it?
20:46You think Roy Palmer might have it?
20:52He's back again.
20:53Afternoon.
21:03Officer Curtis, did I find you here?
21:05How can we help you?
21:07The Dorner Bray case.
21:09You're reading the file.
21:11She's your mother, right?
21:12Yeah, that's right.
21:13Oh, firstly, my condolences.
21:16Truly, I am sorry for your loss.
21:19But, secondly, and I'm sorry to do this to you,
21:23I've spoken with the Chief Commissioner,
21:25and we need to close it down.
21:29Sorry, what?
21:30The case.
21:31We need to close it down.
21:32Why?
21:33Well, as far as the Chief Commissioner and I can see,
21:37it's costing us time and resources.
21:39And there's not a single piece of physical evidence
21:42to suggest this is anything other than an accident.
21:44Well, no, not yet there isn't,
21:45but we're still waiting for results to come back.
21:46No, no, no.
21:48You're not?
21:49I dropped by at the lab.
21:51The phone call your mother made...
21:52I need help.
21:54No.
21:54They've confirmed it was in a fake.
21:56The phone company checked GPS tracking,
21:58and it was indeed made two miles out at sea
22:02just before she drowned.
22:04I get this case matters to you, D.I. Wilson,
22:07but I think your personal connection with it
22:09is clouding your judgment.
22:11To be honest,
22:13we're surprised Commissioner Patterson
22:14ever gave you the go-ahead on it.
22:16You can't do this.
22:17Well, you see...
22:19I sort of can.
22:23But you don't understand what we're doing here...
22:25Look!
22:26The Chief Commissioner has spoken,
22:28and there's no coming back on that.
22:30So if you've got a problem with it,
22:32you've got a week left on your contract here,
22:34you can call it today right now,
22:36get you back on that plane to London real quick.
22:39Hmm?
22:42Hmm.
22:46Enjoy your emails.
22:52Inspector.
22:54I can't believe he's done this.
22:56I knew no good would come of them replacing Selwyn.
22:59Just two days he's been in charge,
23:01and look what's happened.
23:02He's not got a clue what he's doing.
23:04Yeah, I mean,
23:05I know I've made some mistakes,
23:07and I've still got a lot to learn.
23:09But this guy?
23:10Real idiot.
23:11Huh.
23:13And what about Mervyn?
23:15How is he?
23:16He's not said much.
23:18Went off on his own,
23:20which is not unusual,
23:21but...
23:22I think he's feeling pretty crushed.
23:32The phone call your mother made?
23:34We've confirmed it was in a fake.
23:40Mrs. Donna Briggs!
23:43Have I seen...
23:44I need help!
23:46No!
23:47Please!

24:31I don't know how you think I can help her you must be able to do something what what I
24:41no longer have any sweet you're still the commissioner of police though for a few more
24:47days yes but if sterling Fox has the chief commissioners here then I must go that's all
24:53right even if others still need you people have to get used to not relying on me like they did
24:5950 years of service to this island and now you can just walk away not care anymore
25:06maybe that's what I need to do maybe that's how I get through this by not giving a damn
25:15is that really how you want this all to end by turning your back on everything you used to stand
25:25for I think you should go now there is nothing further frost at his course
25:37Selwyn Mervyn came to St Mary looking for answers if he has to leave without finding them then this
25:57island has let him down
26:27yes sir do you want to tell us what's going on I'm here to get the case real
26:41let's just say I have a plan
26:52Selwyn good morning what a beautiful day right
27:00you got your uniform on you haven't a leaving party or something
27:06we're here mr. Fox because I'm going to arrest you
27:10you're going to what the damage you caused my car
27:15then you just say you're gonna arrest him this is a joke right you know I think he did
27:20you're joking sterling Fox I'm arresting you for criminal damage you do not have to say anything
27:28is this actually happening or am I dreaming right now you know honey it's really happening
27:39officer Rose handcuffs please take mr. Fox to the cells best I'm alive
27:49Selwyn you're making a big mistake right now the chief commissioner is not gonna be happy stop
27:58no you can't do this I can't and I have and if you do not let officer Rose put the cuffs on you
28:11I'll also charge you with resisting arrest
28:14this is crazy you're crazy
28:28I can probably spring this out for the rest of the day so you have until then to solve the donor break case
28:35so that was your plan arrest the new boss then put him behind bars you have a better one
28:40no sir I don't
28:52this island
28:54all in good time mr. Fox what you'll have to wait while I gather evidence from the crime scene which
29:07may take some time the crime scenes part right outside how long can it take it's been a while since
29:15I've been so hands-on I have a feeling I may be a bit lost you're killing me in here
29:22no first things first
29:29a nice cup of coffee
29:33and maybe a biscuit
29:41inspector if you tell me
29:52what it is you're looking for
29:54perhaps we could speed things up a bit
29:56no we're good as we are thanks
29:59is that your boat?
30:01yeah
30:02you know I hadn't realized at first
30:05same surnames
30:07inspector Wilson
30:09Charlie Wilson
30:10and then I mentioned to a couple of my customers
30:13that you were asking after Dorner and they filled me in
30:16your point?
30:17your point?
30:18oh no point
30:19I'm just saying
30:20I didn't know Dorner was your mother
30:24five years sober
30:26hmm
30:28that's another reason for my moving here
30:31things have got a little bit out of control
30:33I needed to sort myself out
30:35you know I can't imagine how hard it must have been
30:42having never known your mother to come all this way
30:46and find out she passed on
30:50she never mentioned you you know
30:57in the time I got to know her
30:59didn't even tell me that she and Charlie had a baby
31:02maybe she chose to
31:05put all that behind her
31:07out of sight
31:09out of mind
31:11why are you telling me this?
31:13no reason
31:15I just thought you might want to know
31:19sir
31:20I've got something
31:27this is interesting Mr Palmer
31:29an email exchange with a jewelers in the US
31:32requesting a valuation on a ring that was
31:34previously in Dornerbury's possession
31:36two million dollars
31:38care to explain?
31:39very happy to
31:40Dorner and I were reminiscing
31:42she was talking about Charlie
31:43and she showed me the ring he gave her
31:46a promise ring
31:47just before he went back to England
31:49go on
31:50well it took me a moment
31:51but I was looking at it
31:52and I thought
31:53how on earth
31:55does a teenage Charlie Wilson
31:57afford a piece of jewellery like that?
31:59then it came back to me
32:01there had been a theft reported
32:04at the hotel we were staying at
32:06a rather valuable ring
32:08I realised
32:11that was it
32:12so why did you request a valuation?
32:15because Dorner wouldn't believe me when I told her it was valuable
32:18so you discussed it with her?
32:20the fact that this was stolen?
32:21yeah and I told her
32:23she should hand it over to the police
32:25so that it could be returned to the woman who owned it
32:29what did she say?
32:30well she refused
32:31she said it was hers
32:32and she was going to keep it
32:36I don't believe you
32:37well
32:38you wouldn't would you?
32:40Dorner was your mother
32:41of course you want to think the best of her
32:43but
32:44and
32:45I say this with the utmost sympathy inspector
32:48you didn't know her
32:51you never even met her
32:54and where's the ring now?
33:03because it's not at Dorner's house
33:05and it wasn't found on her body
33:06ah
33:07so
33:08this is the reason you've been turning my villa upside down
33:12you think I have it?
33:14if you told me what it was you were looking for
33:17we could have saved a whole load of time
33:20because it's not here
33:22and I don't know where it is
33:24honestly I don't
33:30well that's about all
33:32we'd say hello to each other
33:34but
33:35no more
33:36how are you getting on?
33:38I'm afraid Miss Clementson
33:40can't help as much
33:41she recognises Roy from the photo
33:43but never had much to do with him
33:45he was friends with Dorner's father
33:47but that's all that I knew
33:49never really took to him
33:51if I'm honest with you inspector
33:53you and me both
33:54alright well
33:56it was worth the ask
33:57thank you Miss Clementson
33:58thank you
34:00Seb's finished searching Roy Palmer's bar
34:05and the ring isn't there either
34:07so if he's got it
34:08he's hidden it
34:09come on
34:10sorry sorry
34:12it's not you
34:13sorry sorry
34:14it's not you
34:15it's just
34:16we're so close to solving this
34:18we know who did it
34:19we think we know why
34:20I just can't figure out how
34:22Roy Palmer
34:23made Dorner travel out to sea
34:25when she knew there was a storm coming
34:31I don't know
34:34I feel like I'm blocked
34:35I can't join the dots
34:36something's holding me back
34:38like what inspector
34:39I think
34:43I think there's something I should have done but I haven't
34:47just bear with me yeah
34:51just bear with me yeah
35:04inspector
35:07everything alright
35:08I don't know
35:10not really
35:11there's these letters
35:18my mum sent to my dad
35:20years ago now
35:21I think there's answers in here about stuff
35:26I just can't bring myself to
35:31maybe he
35:33I could for you
35:36for you
35:43come
35:48so
35:50how would you like to do this
35:53um
35:55just give me the headlines
35:58to start with
35:59the letters were written
36:03just after you were born
36:04they were sent from Saint Marie
36:08and your mother talks about being back here
36:11after some time in London
36:14with Charlie
36:15and his parents
36:18when
36:19you were born
36:21right
36:25she seemed
36:26to have cared for your father a lot
36:28but
36:29um
36:30his parents weren't happy
36:31with the situation
36:32that he got a girl pregnant
36:33when they were both still
36:35so young
36:39it was them
36:41who insisted that she
36:42and Charlie
36:44give the baby up
36:49it wasn't her decision
36:51I don't believe so
36:55yeah
36:56she says
36:57she says
37:00I know
37:01they are just looking out for you
37:04and think they are doing the right thing
37:07but it hurts
37:09and it's not what I wanted
37:13I'm never going to be the same person
37:17I was
37:19after this
37:21it's broken me
37:24it's broken me
37:26also
37:28I think
37:30you should hear this
37:32she mentions the ring
37:35you told me about
37:37but she says
37:39I have not taken it off
37:42since I got back here
37:43back here
37:45and I'm never
37:46going to
37:48I'm always
37:49going to wear it
37:51and whenever
37:52I look at it
37:54I'm always going to think
37:56of our
37:57little boy
38:07I don't think she ever
38:09forgot she
38:11I am
38:13I need a minute
38:14wait a minute
38:40I'm never going to be the same person
38:42I was
38:45after this
38:47she said she wasn't the same person
38:52she couldn't be
38:53she wouldn't be
38:57and if she wasn't
38:59then
39:02every part of this changes
39:04we know Dawna applied for a permit to scatter her dad's ashes on a beach
39:08come on Mervyn
39:10they were waiting at the bar for Roy to open up when they saw Dawna heading out to sea
39:14where's the connection
39:16where's the ring now?
39:17it's not here
39:18I don't know where it is
39:20where?
39:21he's got it
39:22he's hidden it
39:24the harbour
39:26no no no no that's too obvious
39:28too many people would know
39:30somewhere else
39:31five years sober
39:33that's another reason for my moving here
39:34am I moving here
39:35things have got a little bit out of control
39:38that's where
39:42sir
39:43you wouldn't have to know where the local AA meetings take place
39:47as it happens I do
39:49my local church hosts them
39:51of course
39:53we're going to need to get Roy Palmer
39:56to the station
39:57you've solved it
40:00yeah
40:03yes I have
40:05and with the help of your mother
40:07by the sounds of it
40:18look
40:19I've had enough of this
40:21I'm calling the chief commissioner
40:23no Sterling
40:24it's Mr Fox actually
40:25no if you please
40:26you're going to sit down there
40:28and watch
40:29what's about to happen
40:31no ifs
40:32no whats
40:33no whats
40:45they're just in here Mr Palmer
40:47quite the crowd that's gathered
40:52this is commissioner Patterson
40:54hmm
40:56must be important if you're bringing the big guns out
40:58oh it is Mr Palmer
41:00trust me
41:02it is very important
41:04because I'm about to arrest you for the murder of Dawna Bray
41:08right
41:11well
41:13I'm curious to know how you reached that conclusion
41:18take a seat
41:20we'll get started
41:21now
41:31working out
41:33the motive in this case
41:35why you committed murder
41:38wasn't that difficult
41:40you needed the money
41:42you're in debt
41:43and it was growing by the minute
41:45but then
41:47Dawna Bray
41:48came back into your life
41:50after 50 years
41:52with a 2 million dollar ring on her finger
41:55just waiting for you to get your hands on it
41:58but that was a problem
42:00because Dawna hadn't taken that ring off her finger
42:03since it was given to her
42:05all those years ago
42:07so it's not like you could just
42:09stage a burglary and take it
42:11no
42:13if you were going to get hold of that ring
42:15and sell it
42:17you decided you were going to have to
42:20kill her
42:26but
42:28you knew you had to be clever
42:31if you were going to get away with it
42:33you decided
42:35if you were going to commit murder
42:37you wanted it to look like an accident
42:40and with Dawna mentioning to you that she needed to scatter her father's ashes
42:43that's when your plan started to take shape
42:46to make it look like she died at sea in a storm
42:50so how to pull it off
42:53how do you make it look like this woman travelled out to sea alone
42:57only to drown when bad weather hit
42:59well I'll admit
43:01that is a question that had me well and truly baffled all these weeks
43:04but today
43:07finally
43:09I realised
43:13you weren't acting alone
43:15when you murdered Dawna Bray were you
43:17you had someone helping you
43:20so
43:25who was it
43:31officer Curtis
43:33sir
43:35I found the ring
43:37she had it
43:38you see
43:40what I've learnt about you Roy
43:42is that your life is lived
43:44mostly
43:45around that harbour
43:47your bar
43:48your friends you go fishing with
43:50so if you were going to get away
43:52with that murder
43:54your accomplice needed to be someone
43:57who wasn't part of that world
43:59someone who wouldn't be recognised down there
44:01and the only thing in your life I've come across
44:04that isn't connected to that harbour
44:06your weekly AA meetings
44:11which happened to take place at the same church
44:15Brianna Clemetson attends and helps out at
44:19you probably don't remember me but we've crossed the house of church a couple of times
44:23yes of course
44:25and having spoken to the pastor there
44:27he told us he'd seen you and Brianna together
44:29that you two got close over the last year
44:32he said Brianna always seems lonely
44:34sad struggling to find some meaning in life
44:39I thought it would bring me some happiness
44:43with the money we'd get
44:46he said it would help me find a life for myself
44:50and you realised you could take advantage of that
44:54I got nothing
44:56no friends
44:58family
44:59but all I wanted was a life
45:03money can give you that
45:06I'm not sure I can honey
45:09Miss Clemetson
45:11I'm going to have to arrest you now
45:14and then take you to the station
45:16so we have the who
45:19we have the why
45:21all that's left is the how
45:23on the morning of Donna Bray's death
45:26you went to visit her
45:28knowing that that particular morning there was going to be a massive storm
45:32right
45:34hey Donna
45:35and two things occurred when you got there
45:37firstly you convinced her to scatter her father's ashes that same day
45:42it just felt
45:44right you know
45:46and secondly we think you slipped on our sedative
45:49FYI the lab still have a sample of Donna's hair from the original post-mortem
45:56it's being tested as we speak
45:58and any trace of sedative in her system will show up
46:01so I'm going to preemptively call that exhibit A
46:05now we know
46:07Donna checked the weather that morning
46:09and we know she was intending to scatter the ashes on the beach
46:13which is why she set out
46:15knowing if she went earlier in the morning she'd missed the bad weather
46:19but what she didn't know
46:21was that you were following her Mr. Palmer
46:23and that soon she'd need to pull over feeling drowsy
46:26we think you then drove a now unconscious Donna back to her house
46:31where behind the closed gate on the drive
46:34Brianna Clemetson changed into Dorna's clothes
46:38you recovered your own car
46:40drove back to Dorna's house so you could place her body into it
46:43you then drove to a quiet section of the beach where your boat was already moored
46:47you took her out to sea where the storm was heading
46:50and left her there
46:52before returning to shore in a dinghy
46:57once you got back to shore
47:00Ms. Clemetson drove to the harbour in Dorna's car
47:02where she proceeded to take the ashes
47:05and get into Irvingbury's fishing boat
47:08the harbour was pretty much empty that day because of the incoming storm
47:12but you knew your two regular customers would be there waiting for you to open up
47:18and would see a woman carrying an urn getting into a boat and heading out to sea
47:22now Ms. Clemetson is roughly the same height and build as Dorna
47:28but whether or not the two witnesses recognise her as Dorna doesn't really matter
47:33because when they recovered her dead body and brought it to shore wearing the same clothes
47:38they just assumed it was the same person
47:39having headed out to sea where you left your boat Mr. Palmer
47:44Brianna then removed the clothes she was wearing and put them back on Dorna
47:49once she'd done this she moved Dorna's body into Irving's fishing boat
47:54and then returned to shore in your boat
47:56leaving Dorna Bray unconscious in her father's fishing boat with a storm about to hit
48:04you both knew it was a category 4 storm
48:09that Dorna now unconscious in that little boat had no chance of surviving
48:13but something went wrong with your plan
48:17the sedative wore off and Dorna regained consciousness
48:20she had a mobile phone in her handbag and she called the harbour master
48:33I need help!
48:35fortunately for you the signal was poor
48:37and the line cut out before anything incriminating was said
48:40hello!
48:42now, I don't know exactly what happened out there that day
48:47only the Dorna Bray
48:48my mother
48:55help me
48:58didn't come back alive
49:18I had to tell them
49:23I had to tell them
49:32how?
49:34sir
49:43exhibit B
49:44I assume the reason you haven't sold this yet is because you're waiting for the right price
49:50it wasn't going to be easy to find the buyer for a piece as rare as this
49:56Stan
49:58look
50:09for what it's worth
50:13I am sorry
50:15it was never personal
50:18maybe not
50:19maybe not
50:22but this is
50:23but this is
50:28Roy Palmer
50:30I am arresting you on suspicion of the murder of Dorna Bray
50:34you do not have to say anything
50:36but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something you later rely on in court
50:43anything you do say may be given in evidence
50:46it may be given in evidence
50:47it may be given in evidence
50:48it may be given in evidence
50:49as much as you know
50:50it may be difficult
50:51for you
50:52look
50:53I am glad you caught the guy that killed your mother
50:54Look, I'm glad you caught the guy that killed your mother.
51:13But that does not excuse what went on today.
51:16So when I get back to Jamaica,
51:17I'm going to make the Chief Commissioner fully aware.
51:21Well, with respect, Mr Fox.
51:24I'd like to point out that if we did things your way,
51:27a man guilty of murder would be walking free right now.
51:30Which I'm sure the Chief Commissioner would be very interested to hear.
51:33Listen, we don't have to be like that about it.
51:35You know what would fix this, Sterling?
51:38When you go back to Jamaica,
51:40you tell your boss that to avoid any more mistakes like this being made by your good self,
51:44he needs to reinstate the Commissioner.
51:49I'll think about it.
51:52So we'll let you know.
51:54You didn't need to do that.
52:09Yes, sir, I did.
52:11I wish I could have done more.
52:13Because if it wasn't for you,
52:15today wouldn't have happened.
52:16This has been owed to you for a very long time.
52:22First of all,
52:23This has been canceled.
52:24Whenever I end up coming back to Jamaica,
52:26I believe that the service is ruined.
52:27Nothing really happens.
52:28Look at it.
52:30And now I'm thinking,
52:47And now I have been looking for notice.
52:49as I'm writing this letter I am wearing the ring you bought me in fact I've not taken it off since
53:03I've got back here and I'm never going to I'm always going to wear it and whenever I look at
53:11it I'm going to think of our little boy wherever he is whatever he's doing I'm going to think of our
53:20son and remember the love I feel for him right now
53:41so
53:50so
53:53so
53:56Two more hours, mate.
54:20It's bye-bye, St. Marie.
54:22Rosa Martinez, a volunteer at the Maravar Church of Conservancy.
54:25How did her body end up at the shack?
54:27You were the last person in here before the body was filming.
54:30Of course, I'm a suspect.
54:32You've offered me my job back.
54:33I'm so happy for you.
54:35If a species disappears from a habitat,
54:37the natural order of things can be disrupted.
54:39I'm asking you to reconsider your decision to go back.
54:43You are not at the end of your journey,
54:45but at the beginning.
