00:00According to Duke, national service is a duty that every citizen should aspire to, and his
00:07outreach to the Prime Minister was rooted in that belief.
00:11He went on to briefly explain the purpose of the letter, stating that it outlined specific
00:17ways he believes he can contribute meaningfully to the development of Tobago and its independence.
00:24The contents of the letter, which I'll make public when she receives the letter, basically
00:29states that Tobagoans want to become involved in the decision-making process of their political
00:38status.
00:39Autonomy is one out of three positions when one looks at political status.
00:46You have independence, you have autonomy, and you have free association with a treaty.
00:53Those persons in Tobago wish to be informed about the merits and the demerits, the good
01:02and the bad of each point.
01:04Further, the PDP leader emphasized that Tobago's future does not rest solely on the shoulders
01:11of Chief Secretary Farley Augustine.
01:13Instead, Duke insisted, it is a shared responsibility, one that all Tobagoans must take seriously if
01:22the island is to move forward.
01:24And I thought it best that the Prime Minister be informed by myself, as an Assemblyman in
01:29the Tobago House of Assembly, that we all need to participate in this decision. And it's not
01:38a decision of the Honourable Chief Secretary, Mr Farley Augustine, where he can take down to
01:44Trinidad a motion and a policy paper that no one has ever seen in the Assembly except him. We do not
01:54believe in the cloak and dagger. We do not believe in this seat.
01:58On Thursday, at the post-Cabinet media conference, Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissasa told media,
02:04Mr. Duke had asked her for a job and she was giving consideration to the prospect.
