Police are investigating a crash involving two cars and three trucks in western Victoria which has claimed the lives of three people.

I'm here in Armstrong, halfway between Horsham and Ballarat in regional Victoria where tragedy

struck this afternoon.

Three people have died on the Western Highway in a horror multi-vehicle crash.

Emergency crews are on the scene after two cars, a B double truck and two smaller trucks

collided here near the Thomas Road intersection.

Police have confirmed the driver of one of those cars lost their life and two occupants
00:25
of one of the trucks also died here at about half past 12 today.

Their identity is yet to be formally confirmed but the Western Highway is now closed in both

directions between Ararat and Great Western.

Traffic is being diverted through Moyston and anyone using that route is being advised to

allow for about 20 extra kilometres to their journey today.

Victoria Police remain in control of the closure and the highway will stay closed until the

investigation is complete.
