00:00A deadly 48 hours, tragic scenes in seven separate crashes across the state, leaving 10 dead and seven injured.
00:12It's not something we've seen for two years.
00:14In Eganstown near Dalesford, two cars collided just before midday after a car crossed onto the wrong side of the road,
00:23killing both the driver and the passenger of one car, while seriously injuring the driver of the second car.
00:31In Clayton South, another head-on collision at an intersection, both drivers a 46-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman dying at the scene.
00:40It's incredibly frustrating because we know what's causing trauma, we address the causation as best we can, but we cannot be everywhere at all times.
00:51And that follows a horrific weekend.
00:55A tragic end to Mother's Day, a two-car collision at Trafalgar left one woman dead, her husband and two teenage children badly injured.
01:05The two occupants of the other car also injured.
01:08One of the vehicles travelling along North Canal Road has filed a stop at a stop sign, crossed into the intersection, right into the path of a car travelling from Trafalgar towards Willgrove.
01:20Also fatal crashes in Putala, Mautajup and Swan Hill West.
01:26112 people have lost their lives on Victorian roads this year, 10 more than the same time last year.
01:34We're still seeing a very high level of accidents being contributed to by distraction, speed and alcohol and drugs and not wearing a seatbelt.
01:45We could get up to 20 or 30 referrals for counselling and support services for one crash.
01:51So that's just a really, I guess, harsh reminder of the ripple effects of road trauma.
01:58These latest fatalities come at the start of National Road Safety Week, an initiative aiming to highlight the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.
02:08Victoria Police is conducting a statewide operation this week, cracking down on drivers, breaking the rules.
