00:12Go Negosio Founder at ASEAN Business Advisory Council Chair of the Philippines.
00:17Sir Joey, maganda tanghali po.
00:20Maganda tanghali rin.
00:22Sir, sa pagdalon ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. sa ASEAN Leaders Interface
00:27kasama ang kinatawa ng ASEAN Business Advisory Council,
00:31minungkahin niya ang pagtatatag ng ASEAN Center for Excellence for Artificial Intelligence.
00:51talagang it's an excellent tool for everyone, including mga negosyante.
01:01In fact, I use AI a lot in my work.
01:05And I feel that the Philippines can really play a very important role.
01:10What's very important kasi dito is we have to enable our MSMEs to scale up.
01:18And we have seen that social media is a great tool for them to be able to access mentors,
01:26to be able to access capital, to be able to access market.
01:31At kailangan natin dito is to be able to teach them on how to do that.
01:34And AI is an excellent tool.
01:38At ginagamit ko rin ang AI for my own medical needs.
01:41I can put my blood test and then it will explain to me what my problems are.
01:46But beyond that, AI can guide many of our MSMEs.
02:02At nakikita natin na they're able to scale up using the traditional way on one-on-one mentoring.
02:09But biromo, what if, and we don't have, we have a lot of mentors,
02:14but we don't have enough to mentor all MSMEs.
02:17But through AI, talking, and if you've seen how ChatGPT works,
02:24apply that on entrepreneurship and on mentorship,
02:28then the learning capacity of our MSMEs will be there.
02:37So we mentor during weekends, but we can't mentor all the time.
02:42There are times that not all mentors are available.
02:46We try our best.
02:46So this AI will really help a lot of our MSMEs.
02:56Sir, bilang ASEAN Business Advisory Council Chair for the Philippines,
03:05Well, first of all, we are going to host the ASEAN next year in 2026.
03:14Malaking baki yan.
03:15This will be one of the biggest events that our president will have.
03:18And key to the success also of this ASEAN hosting, of course, will be the private sector.
03:25Now, kung makita na, of course, many of those below, you know, at the bottom of the pyramid,
03:34siyempre, makikita nila, ano, pang big time na mga negosyante lang to, ano?
03:40So how do we benefit?
03:42And that's what we want to really emphasize to, habang may panahon pa tayo,
03:47we have still one year in the process of, before hosting,
03:50is we want to show them that, yes, there are great opportunities
03:54and it is through digitalization that we can enable them to scale up their negosyos, no?
04:10we can't do it, you know, the traditional way all the time, no?
04:14Because we will only reach hundreds of people.
04:16But if you want to reach thousands and thousands of people,
04:19we have to teach them on how to enable themselves through the social media
04:23and how to use AI, no?
04:25It's not very hard to use AI.
04:40Definitely.
04:41And it's not very difficult to understand how to use AI.
04:47And we use it simply.
04:49I mean, just, I don't know if both of you are able to use ChatGPT, no?
04:54And you, just one example, no?
04:57You just put down your results from a medical test
05:01and it will explain to you as accurate as a doctor would explain it to you, no?
05:05So, the technology digitalization is really happening.
05:12And us, in big business, we have all these tools, no?
05:16So, what we want to do is make our MSMEs realize that the hosting of the ASEAN in 2026
05:25is not only for those big businessmen, no?
05:28It is mainly going to be also focused on our micro, small and medium enterprises
05:34because the only solution to economic empowerment
05:38is by enabling our MSMEs to learn more about digitalization and AI, no?
05:47I mean, there is no other way around this thing, no?
05:51In other words, they can, with the power of the phone, with the power of the app,
05:57this is all accessible.
05:59And this is where we're going to shift.
06:01And we're going to shift teaching them on how to digitalize their business,
06:07themselves, in fact, and learn.
06:09Mga, I'm sure, older children know what AI is, no?
06:12So, it's yung kabataan ngayon kasi they're very adept to new things.
06:18They're not scared, no?
06:19Ang mga micro, small enterprises natin, medyo takot pa sila dyan.
06:23Ano yan? Anong mangyayari?
06:26So, many, many questions in their mind.
06:28And that's what we have to try to convince them that AI will really help them in growing their business.
06:47I, quite honestly, I don't know how that will happen.
06:52I know a lot of people who use AI.
06:56And AI is used on the proper way.
06:59I mean, it's really for, it's like going through an encyclopedia, no?
07:03Or a dictionary.
07:04You want quick access to certain things, let's say, you just type it on your phone, no?
07:12On the chat GPT as one of the AI apps.
07:15And it will guide you properly on the answers, no?
07:19And I use it a lot.
07:21And it is a great tool for me to navigate, no?
07:26Our growth in our own company, RFM.
07:30It also guides me on how we can help our MSMEs don't really scale up.
07:35Economic empowerment is important, no?
07:39For us to uplift the lives of our micro and small entrepreneurs, no?
07:44Without economic empowerment, we will still be the same Philippines as we were, no?
07:49Many years back.
07:51Now, these tools are available to everyone.
07:53It's democratized, no?
07:54It's free.
07:55You don't pay anything, no?
07:57So we want them to not get scared of it.
08:00We want them to learn on how they can access information through AI.
08:04And it will enable them to, you know, refine their business model.
08:08If they're not doing well, they can ask and use AI to improve their business model, no?
08:15So that's the way forward, the way I see it.
08:17We want to see an inclusive Philippines, no?
08:19We want to see our economy prosper.
08:21For that to happen, we must make our micro and small entrepreneurs grow so that they can provide more jobs to our people.
08:29And more jobs will lead to greater growth for the Philippine economy.
08:33And it will be good.
08:34And that's where many other ASEAN countries have an advantage over us.
08:39They move faster than us.
08:41So, the president and the private sector and his team, we are all together in one in making sure that we are able to bring this technology and implement it and guide and teach our MSMEs on how to use it properly.
08:57Sir, ayan, na-mention nyo na MSMEs can greatly benefit from AI-related initiatives within ASEAN.
09:17Well, let's say you work, you are working for somebody, you know, and they're asking you to do a research.
09:26You, in the past, we go to the library, we research, we get books, we read about it.
09:32But here, you just have to type in, okay, well, what is the challenge, the question, you ask, and let's just use ChatGPT for, because it's the most popular AI platform that is around, no?
09:46And you just type in what you want to ask, and it will come out, no?
09:49So, that gives you the lead.
09:51It doesn't end there.
09:52You'll have to continue to search even more and try to determine, okay, where are the areas that you can improve your business model, no?
10:00And it will guide you through, no?
10:02It's a magnificent, it's an excellent tool, no?
10:06It's just, the challenge really is that not everybody has access, no, through cell phones with the app and all of that.
10:16But I think that's the least of our problem.
10:19I think what we have to really do now is just to teach them on the proper use of AI, no?
10:25You can use AI for many other things, but to me, if you use it for helping you grow your small negocio, I mean, it adds up to the face-to-face mentoring that we're doing today, no?
10:40In other words, we have hundreds of mentors all over the country.
10:44Every weekend, in this coming weekend, we have the Creativity Summit, no?
10:49This coming Saturday, that's the biggest summit that we have.
10:53And the digitalization is definitely part of the Creativity Summit because we will have all creative people.
11:00Filipinas are very creative, no?
11:02So, and they're not scared of adapting to new technology.
11:06And that's why you can see everybody here is good in using their cell phones.
11:10But we have to use these apps for helping us grow our business model.
11:17And that's what we want to really help our MSME is that the tools are available.
11:22We just have to mentor you and guide you on how to use it properly.
11:38Well, and that is why we have the Creativity Summit, no?
11:43Which, one, you've got not only people who can teach AI, but they're social media, content creators, influencers.
11:52So, there are many formats today.
11:54I mean, you don't need an advertising agency to promote your own product, no?
11:58It has been democratized.
12:00I mean, if you're creative enough, you can develop your own campaign on promoting whatever product that you sell, no?
12:10So, they have also great visibility because through social media, they can, in fact, become content creators or influencers.
12:18So, we, RFM Corporation, is a food and beverage business and into ice cream.
12:24So, you don't see us advertising in print or in television or in radio anymore.
12:29Our focus is really on social media.
12:31And we really employ and hire people who are good content creators and influencers, no?
12:37So, now, the goal of GoNegosho is to try to make sure that mentoring at any time, no?
12:44So, how do you want to be mentored anytime?
12:46You can be mentored by AI, no?
12:48As simple as that, through ChatGPT.
12:49Because we, the mentors are not available all the time, 24 hours.
12:53But if you need an answer to a challenging problem, then use ChatGPT, no?
12:59Sir, on a different topic naman po, ano yung agreement na nilagdaan between ASEAN Business Advisory Council, Philippines, at Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation?
13:11Well, we know that Malaysia is very advanced.
13:16And the chair there is Anthony Nazir, who is the current chair right now and the co-chair.
13:22And as we take over the hosting in 2026, I will be the chair.
13:28And our focus will still be dissimilar.
13:31It's really focusing on digitalization, which I believe is the key to giving inclusive.
13:37In other words, it will make the economy more inclusive.
13:40It will not be an economy just for the big boys like us.
13:44It will be an economy that everybody can participate in, provided that they are trained for the right tools that can enable them to access the market,
13:57how they can introduce their products, whether it's a product or a service.
14:02Access to money will come and access to market.
14:04And of course, mentors, no?
14:06We have a lot of mentors.
14:08But now, what we're teaching is our mentors should be also well-averse and good in knowing how to use AI, no?
14:26Well, during the meetings in KL, I explained to everyone that the Philippines together with Malaysia is leading really this agriculture move.
14:42You know, we have a lot of farmers here, and they continue to remain poor, no?
14:48Now, how do we really make them improve their business model?
14:53And this is where many of the other ASEAN countries who have done well in agri can help us.
15:00And that's why this program with Mayor Eddie Gillian, the NIA administrator, he is in control of a lot of government land out there, which is idle.
15:11Now, if, and what we're trying to do is attract the ASEAN countries, no?
15:17Brunei especially, and they have the money, but they don't have the land, no?
15:20You've got Cambodia, who has, they're one of the top rice producers, Laos, et cetera.
15:26And so, all of these countries have their own advantages in agri.
15:30The Philippines will need help in what is the latest technology.
15:34And we've started that about a year ago, and there are three joint ventures that has come about because of just all 10 countries collaborating and trying to see how we can enhance agriculture in ASEAN.
15:51And there are countries that are very good at it, whether it's durian, you know, and different types of fruits and crops, but it's really helping one another as ASEAN brothers.
16:01And that is one of our legacy projects that will take place in the year 2026.
16:09But we're not, we're waiting for 2026.
16:11We've actually started already trying to put countries, private sector in the different ASEAN countries together with the Philippine private sector in agriculture and see how they can collaborate and together form an alliance, joint venture, and then they can grow faster.
16:28We have the land, they need the land, we need the technology, and they can provide the technology to us.
16:37Sir, still on digital agricultural technology, so baka isipin ng mga magsasaka, wala kaming alam sa teknolohiya, baka maging averse sila or resistant to the use of these technologies.
16:49So, paano po natin i-a-address yun?
16:53It's a matter of, you know, we have a number of Filipino companies that are doing well in agriculture.
17:02And it is to the interest of these Filipino companies to really mentor the farmers and guide them well, no?
17:08And together with the government support, we, under the administration of President Marcos, he is really out there to help the poor people and who are at the bottom of the pyramid.
17:21The agriculture sector is at the bottom of that pyramid, because that's where you have millions of farmers out there who are struggling.
17:31And I know the Department of Agriculture is doing, and everybody is trying to do their best, but we really have to enable them.
17:39We have to give them access to land, access to capital, and most of all, access to a mentor.
17:44When I say a mentor, it's a big brother, a possible partner with the farmers, no?
17:50Rather than all these farmers having cooperatives and minsan nag-aaway lang sila, then you have a big brother who comes in and helps them with the technology, whether it's in rice, durian, and many other crops.
18:03That's how it will work, no?
18:05It's not going to be easy, no?
18:07The trust element should always be there on both sides, from either the farmer with the big brother or with the big brother with the farmer, no?
18:15But we've started this for the last two years ago, and it's gradually maturing.
18:22And I think our mayors, our governors, I mean, especially those who are in vast lands of agriculture, sayang, gamitin na natin yan.
18:33Kung hindi natin na gamitin, sayang, that can improve the level of food security in this country.
18:39And that's what ASEAN wants to do.
18:42ASEAN is trying to be as much as possible self-reliant, whereby ASEAN countries are able to help one another, no?
19:03Well, I think an entrepreneur is always very persistent, katulad ko.
19:09I mean, I don't stop, no?
19:10We, there will always be challenges in anything that we do.
19:13And ASEAN was formed many, many years ago by its founders to really enhance the cooperation and unify ASEAN as one, no?
19:27Well, we can be 10 countries still on our own, working together.
19:31But what's important is you have size when you put all 10 countries together.
19:35You have scale, and this is where we should be going.
19:43I mean, Europe, they have the EU, United States, they have 50 states, so they have scale, no?
19:49You know, here in the Philippines, if we are alone, we'll just be, we won't have, we won't achieve scale.
19:57But if 10 countries, or 11 now, with Timor-Este, come together and really forge a strong alliance towards, you know, ASEAN, and we call that the ASEAN Food Security Alliance,
20:08and we are looking forward, looking at creating more jobs in agriculture for our farmers, no?
20:17And learning from Malaysia, learning from Cambodia, Vietnam, how they produce rice, them coming to the country because they mainly lack land, especially Brunei.
20:29So, it's collaborating.
20:32So, you know, I don't want to, what will ASEAN be if we're just going to have meetings and just make, you know, see each other and talk and nothing happens.
20:43It's going to be a waste of time.
20:45And I'm telling you, so, for this to really work, we go and travel and spend money to be with each other.
20:53So, we have to make it work, and that will help not only the Philippines, but many countries, ASEAN countries, no?
21:00So, napakahalaga talaga ng collaboration among ASEAN countries.
21:10ang GoNegosio Founder at ASEAN Business Advisory Council Chair for the Philippines.
21:15Thank you, sir.
21:16Salamat, Trin. Thank you.
