00:00In a beautiful house in the forest, the geologist-ish lives a quiet life.
00:05One morning he decides to visit the quarry to look for pyrite,
00:08and ignores a call from his mother as he leaves.
00:10A few moments later, while he is working,
00:13a snake suddenly bites his hand before slithering away.
00:16In panic, he pulls out his phone, but accidentally drops it down the hill.
00:20He then uses a knife to access it more easily and sucks out the venom.
00:24He runs back home and drinks some water before collapsing on the bed,
00:27but then begins to hallucinate.
00:30A few hours later, Ish hasn't moved and his hand is terribly swollen.
00:34He can hear someone knocking at his door in a helicopter outside,
00:37but he can't move or speak.
00:39At night, he gets out of bed to look for more water,
00:41but his movements are so clumsy that he spills it,
00:44so he has to suck it from the floor.
00:46Help me reach my goal of 10 likes and 5 comments.
00:49Comment as much as you want.
00:51The goal is to achieve it.
00:52Ish keeps calling out for his mom,
00:54while on his phone a text message from her arrives saying,
00:57We love you.
00:57Many days later, Ish wakes up feeling better and his hand has returned to normal.
01:02He gets into his car after cleaning it and it takes him several tries to start it.
01:05Ish drives to the city and is shocked to find the streets empty.
01:09He finally stops the car when he discovers a rotting body on the ground.
01:13There are military vehicles everywhere and more dead people inside other vehicles.
01:17On a traffic sign, it reads that there has been a global pandemic
01:20and that the United States government has been suspended.
01:23As he panics, he returns to his car and turns on the radio.
01:26The news reminds the public that the virus is highly contagious and deadly,
01:30so everyone must stay home.
01:32When he arrives at his family's house,
01:34Ish is devastated to discover that his parents are dead.
01:37After taking a moment to cry,
01:39he buries his parents in the backyard with a kiss on the forehead as a goodbye.
01:42After resting in his childhood bed,
01:45Ish continues searching through the city and finds dozens of corpses in the church.
01:49Then he gathers a bunch of supplies, including a gun,
01:52and drives to the bridge only to find it blocked.
01:55He screams in frustration before taking a different route to get to Las Vegas,
01:59which is also completely deserted.
02:01Searching the buildings is unsuccessful,
02:03so Ish decides to take a break in a jacuzzi.
02:06Later, he goes to a bar to have a drink
02:07and drops the glass when a voice startles him.
02:10It's Milton and And who explain that they are immune
02:13and got stuck here when it all began.
02:15Milton recorded the broadcast on his phone and showed it to Ish,
02:18who learned that the virus was new and no one knew where it came from.
02:22Vaccines proved ineffective and people began to panic in the streets.
02:27In the end, the government lost control and the virus took over the nation.
02:31Suddenly, Ish admits that his parents had told him there was a new disease,
02:34but he hadn't thought it was that serious.
02:36Milton and tell him that all nations fell,
02:40so there are probably only a handful of survivors like them in the whole world,
02:44and confesses that she saw her daughters and husband die during a video call.
02:48While the duo keeps drinking, Ish goes to take the elevator,
02:51only to realize he has nowhere to go and falls asleep on the floor.
02:55The next morning, he finds in trying on expensive clothes from a store.
02:59Ish wonders if being alive matters,
03:01and says that just because her heart is beating doesn't mean she's alive.
03:04Then the trio gets together for breakfast,
03:07and Ish learns that Milton's wife died here at the hotel.
03:10Ish announces that he'll be leaving soon,
03:12and, and, upset, leaves the table.
03:15Milton tries to convince Ish to stay,
03:17saying they have food and a generator.
03:19While showing his gun to Ish,
03:21he also reveals that he and and have a pact.
03:23When the food runs out, they'll end themselves.
03:26When Ish points out that the country has enough resources to last a decade,
03:29Milton asks why anyone would want to live after everything they care about is gone.
03:33Before leaving, Ish asks in to come with him.
03:36She refuses, but still kisses him.
03:39So Ish has to push her away.
03:40As he walks out, Ish hears two gunshots.
03:43Furious, Ish drives down the road at a dangerous speed,
03:46and almost hits a dog, but stops just in time.
03:49Seeing this as a sign,
03:50he names the dog Lucky and takes him along.
03:52Then Ish stops at the library and gathers all the survival books he can find.
03:56Not knowing what else to do,
03:58Ish returns to his old house to start a new life with Lucky.
04:01A year later, Ish is still alive.
04:04He keeps himself busy with house chores and exercise,
04:06but feels like he's starting to lose it and drives his car in circles.
04:10One morning, he hears Lucky barking and looks out the window to see smoke in the distance.
04:15Ish and Lucky immediately get in the car and drive toward the city to follow the smoke to a particular house.
04:21Emma appears on the roof with a gun, but lowers it when Ish explains the situation.
04:26She invites him in and tells him she arrived a few days ago.
04:28While sharing tea and bread, they get along quite well.
04:32So when Ish tries to leave, Emma tells him to stay the night.
04:35The next morning, Ish convinces her to come live with him so they can keep each other company.
04:40While Emma looks around the house, Ish gets rid of the rope he had hung when he felt desperate.
04:44Emma notices that rats have gotten into the pantry, so they return to town to look for supplies.
04:49In the store, they have to ignore the horrible stench coming from the bodies and some rats.
04:54Days go by and Emma and Ish find a new routine together.
04:57They plant vegetables and go fishing for food.
05:00In the city, animals appear in the streets because there are no people to stop them.
05:05Emma cuts Ish's hair and he begins building a chicken coop, hoping to start a farm.
05:09Eventually, their relationship becomes intimate.
05:12When Ish's car runs out of gas, he has to start filling the tank using other vehicles in the city.
05:17He also starts building solar panels on top of the house.
05:20One morning, he accidentally slips off the roof and falls, injuring his ankle in the process.
05:26Emma helps him inside and takes care of him, though she admits she misses having more people around.
05:31Later, while he sleeps, she looks at old photographs of her family and cries.
05:36When Ish gets better, he immediately starts building again.
05:39Emma announces that she's pregnant and Ish becomes scared, hesitant to bring a child into a post-apocalyptic world.
05:45He ends up looking for books about childbirth at the library, where there are also rats scurrying around.
05:50A few months later, the couple's small farm is doing well, with plenty of vegetables and even a few chickens.
05:56However, Emma points out that she needs protein, so Ish agrees to go hunting, finds a bunch of cows, and, after much hesitation, shoots one while apologizing.
06:06He then follows the instructions from a book to cut it up and get the meat, which he brings home in a cooler.
06:11A few days later, Ish finally finishes the solar panels and the house has power, which means they can store food in the fridge again.
06:18Emma interrupts the happy moment with bad news.
06:21She has found a huge rat in the basement.
06:23She had to drown it to kill it, since her traps aren't big enough for that size.
06:27A quick glance through the window reveals that hundreds of rats have taken over the city and are now heading toward their house.
06:33Ish realizes that the garbage is attracting the rats, so he runs out to burn it all, while Emma shoots the rats that get too close.
06:40Unfortunately, Ish also has to burn what's left of the cow.
06:43No matter what they do, the rats keep coming, so the duo runs back inside and starts working to seal every door, window, and hole.
06:51Emma also pours a lot of bleach into the toilet.
06:54A sudden cry reveals they forgot Lucky outside, and the rats are biting him.
06:58Ish has no choice but to open the door and quickly grab the dog before running back inside.
07:03It's just a second, but some rats manage to get in, and Ish tries to open fire.
07:07The bullet misses because they're constantly moving, so Ish starts killing them all, furiously smashing them with his weapon.
07:14Afterwards, Emma takes care of Lucky's wounds.
07:16This experience makes Ish fear losing Emma during childbirth, so she finally confesses that she gave birth to two daughters without complications.
07:25She lost her whole family the same day to the virus.
07:28A few months later, the rat plague is finally under control thanks to wild cats roaming the streets.
07:33The couple can finally open the house and go outside again.
07:37That day, Emma starts feeling contractions and prepares to give birth, but she discovers the baby's shoulder is coming out first.
07:44Ish wants to find the book that explains how to deal with this, but Emma yells at him and guides him on how to correct the baby's position until the head comes out first.
07:52This helps the birth go smoothly, and they're now the proud parents of a healthy baby girl.
07:56Feeling hopeful about the future once again, Emma paints their address on a city wall, inviting survivors to join them.
08:02This is seen by a mysterious person in the distance.
08:05Six years after the pandemic began, Ish is driving alone when he accidentally hits a lion.
08:11He grabs his gun and sets out to kill it out of mercy, but at that moment, he notices someone watching him from the forest.
08:17He runs after this person and tries to grab them, so the girl tries to defend herself.
08:22Ish steps back and swears he doesn't want to hurt anyone, explaining that he has food and lives with other survivors.
08:27The girl screams again and runs away.
08:29When Ish returns to his truck, he discovers the lion is gone and that the girl has been following him.
08:35She accepts the apple, he offers her, and jumps into the back of the truck.
08:39Ish takes the girl home, and it is revealed that he and Emma now have two children, Heather and Alex.
08:45They have also been joined by two more survivors, Jorge and Maureen, not to mention that Emma is pregnant again.
08:51Everyone is friendly with the new girl, but she still doesn't speak or leave the truck, so Ish concludes that she must have post-traumatic stress disorder.
08:58That night, the girl sleeps in the truck.
09:01The next morning, Maureen brings breakfast to the girl, who gets scared and drops the plate.
09:05As the girl grabs her wrist, Maureen realizes they have the same scars and shows her the ones on her chest.
09:11She also offers her hair for the girl to touch, thus gaining her trust.
09:15Later, Maureen shares how she and Jorge got their thanks to the sign and convinces the girl to take a bath.
09:21Meanwhile, Ish and Jorge go into the forest and discover two very rudimentary cabins with graves in the back.
09:28Moments later, Maureen checks the girl's belongings.
09:32There are many creepy drawings in a journal and a letter that indicates the girl's name is Evie.
09:37Maureen uses the name, and the girl responds well, even accepting clean clothes and a room to sleep in.
09:43That night, Maureen shares the letter with the others.
09:46It was written by Evie's mother, who begged the reader to take care of her daughter.
09:49When the pandemic began, Evie's father took out his frustrations on her, and the mother was sick, so she couldn't protect her.
09:57The group agrees to welcome Maureen into their little family.
10:00Soon, Emma gives birth to a beautiful baby named Joey.
10:03A year later, the group is having a good day when suddenly the intruder alert sounds.
10:08After leaving the children inside with Maureen, Ish, Emma, and Jorge grab their weapons and go to investigate.
10:15They find an armed woman named Molly, and after a brief exchange, everyone agrees to put their weapons down.
10:22Molly introduces them to her friends Jean, Ezra, and Rafe, and everyone agrees to go to the house.
10:28After more introductions, Maureen realizes that Jean is a famous musician.
10:32The group comes from Oregon and claims they left because of a flu outbreak.
10:36Emma tells them they can stay in the neighboring house, but Ish is still suspicious.
10:41The next day, everyone gathers to go out and get supplies.
10:44All the kids must stay behind, and Ish is very strict when explaining the rules.
10:48Molly asks about medicine, but Ish tells her they're out and that they should stick to food.
10:52When they arrive in town, there's a buffalo in the street, and Ish tells the others to just ignore it.
10:57The group splits up to look for food, but Molly ignores the rules and goes to the hospital, where she finds many disgusting bodies.
11:05Jean drinks a lot of alcohol, and Ezra finds him a guitar.
11:09When the group gathers to leave, they notice that Molly is gone.
11:12At the hospital, Molly encounters a wild dog and uses a fire extinguisher to scare it away.
11:18She then uses that same extinguisher to break a lock, which gives her access to a stash of medicine.
11:23When she finally returns, Ish scolds her for breaking the rules, but has to shut up when she shows him how much medicine she found.
11:30That night, Jean uses his new guitar to sing for everyone at a bonfire, and Ezra tells some bad jokes.
11:36After everyone goes to sleep, Jorge shares his favorite memory with Maureen, and they have an intimate encounter for the first time.
11:43Meanwhile, Jean gets drunk in the kitchen.
11:46The next morning, Molly goes to see Jean, who admits he drank a lot because he's trying to terminate his pregnancy.
11:51It's obvious he's having a nervous breakdown, but Molly promises not to tell Ezra.
11:56Time passes, and the group continues living in peace.
12:00Jean's baby is born healthy, and soon Maureen will have her own child, too.
12:05Fourteen years after the start of the pandemic, everyone is still living together like one big family and celebrating Heather's birthday.
12:12Ish often takes Joey to the library, hoping to pass on his love of books.
12:15One afternoon, Ish and Joey notice that the wind is blowing quite hard and it starts to rain, so they hurry back home.
12:22They make sure everyone is safe inside, only to discover that Loki is missing.
12:27Ish goes to look for him, and is devastated to discover that Loki has been killed by a fallen tree.
12:32Emma soon joins him, and they cry together as they cling to the body.
12:36The next day, Loki is buried in the garden.
12:38Later, Ish is watching the kids play, when suddenly a cougar appears from the bushes.
12:44Ish tells the kids to run and jumps to protect them, but the lion attacks him and starts to injure him.
12:49After so many years of silence, Evie starts screaming for help.
12:53Soon, the other adults manage to rescue Ish and quickly take him to the hospital.
12:58Molly is a medic, so she guides the group to help her with his injuries.
13:01She has to perform CPR on Ish to stabilize him before she begins working on closing all his wounds.
13:07Meanwhile, Emma goes into the forest, and when she finally finds the lion, she shoots it several times in revenge.
13:14When Ish finally wakes up, Molly admits she's not a doctor by profession, just a student who dropped out of college.
13:20However, Ish trusts her knowledge and is soon able to walk again, so he returns to his family.
13:26In year 17 of the pandemic, Joey has become a skilled fisherman, and Ish is very proud of him.
13:32This makes Alex jealous.
13:33Rafe and Heather are old enough to go out looking for supplies on their own,
13:37and while they search through houses, they get confused by many things from the old world.
13:41They get along well and soon start dating.
13:44In the end, both teenagers are eager to see more of the world, and after a brief discussion, their parents let them go.
13:50The teenagers pack a car with supplies and weapons so they can be safe.
13:54Sometime later, Heather realizes that the plants are unusually dry for this time of year.
13:59In the kitchen, Ivy can't get any water from the faucet and gets so nervous she breaks the handle.
14:04A quick trip to the reservoir reveals that the water is gone because the area is going through a drought.
14:10The pipes are also rusty and broken because they haven't been maintained.
14:13If it doesn't rain soon, they'll only have enough water for a week, and that's only if they start rationing it.
14:19At that moment, they see two vehicles pass by, so the group hurries back to the house in case these new people are dangerous.
14:26Minutes later, Charlie and Perry appear outside the door with a canteen full of water as a peace offering.
14:32Charlie explains that his group found a drill on the outskirts of Nevada, and since then they have been drilling wells.
14:38They are willing to share this knowledge.
14:40So Emma finally opens the door, and both groups share a meal together.
14:44Ish agrees to trade all the leftover fuel for a well.
14:47So after lunch, Charlie begins to dig.
14:49The whole process will take about 72 hours.
14:52In the afternoon, Ish and Charlie go hunting together, and Ish is surprised when Charlie suddenly shoots behind him, only to kill an animal.
14:59Charlie explains that he is a very good shooter because he has practiced a lot, and not just with deer.
15:05Later, during dinner, Charlie shows his scars and stares at Evie, who looks at him with clear discomfort that Ish notices.
15:12The next morning, Ish tells Alex not to help Charlie with the drilling because he doesn't trust the man, but Alex thinks his father is being unfair and ignores him.
15:20Ish tries to share his concerns with Emma, who thinks he is simply being paranoid.
15:23Some time later, Charlie has trouble getting through a layer of rock, but after a lot of effort, the drill manages to break through, and the search for water continues.
15:33Ish has to watch as his family gets along well with Charlie's group, to the point where everyone sings together.
15:38Upset and confused, Ish goes for a walk in the forest to clear his mind, only to end up getting lost.
15:44That night, Charlie shares his cigarettes with Jean, but she declines the liquor.
15:48Charlie becomes quite aggressive and only backs off when Jorge comes out of the house.
15:54Meanwhile, Emma is worried about her husband and starts getting ready to go look for him, but at that moment, Ish finally returns.
16:01Emma scolds him for disappearing without saying a word, and Ish admits that he's worried about what might happen if they find water.
16:08The next day, the drill finally reaches the proper depth and water gushes from the ground.
16:13While everyone is celebrating, Ish tells Charlie to take the fuel and leave, but Charlie says he likes this place more than he thought.
16:20After the well is properly installed, they organize a party to celebrate, but Ish is still worried.
16:25Emma asks Perry where her group will go next, and Perry says she doesn't know because Charlie really likes being here.
16:31Later that night, Ish hears a woman's scream and looks around to discover Charlie coming out of Evie's cabin, while his friend Silas is keeping watch.
16:39Charlie ignores Ish's concerns and returns to his RV, where Perry is also angry with him.
16:45At the same time, Ish goes to the cabin and finds Evie crying, because Charlie took advantage of her.
16:51Ish's family gathers to discuss how to deal with Charlie.
16:53They don't think they can just send him away because he'll probably come back, so they have no choice but to kill him.
16:59An argument breaks out because some think it's self-defense, while others think it's murder.
17:04They decide to vote, and everyone says yes, except Jorge, who changes his vote when Maureen insists.
17:10Afterwards, Ish goes to find Charlie and asks him to leave.
17:14When Charlie refuses, the family surrounds him, and Ish hits Charlie's head with a hammer.
17:19Once Charlie falls, Ish continues furiously hitting his head until he dies.
17:23Ezra has to stop Ish because he loses control and keeps repeating,
17:27We had to do it.
17:28Then, Ish tries to wash all the blood off the hammer,
17:31commenting on the irony that the blood belongs to the person who gave them water.
17:36Emma comforts Ish and tells him he did what he had to do.
17:39The next morning, Charlie's body is thrown into the ocean.
17:42The family tells Perry that Charlie is gone, but she and her people are allowed to stay.
17:47Perry realizes the true meaning and actually feels relieved because she is another of Charlie's victims.
17:52Then they inform the rest of the group that Charlie is gone, and Silas gets angry,
17:57saying Charlie never changes his plans.
17:59As Ish's group prepares their weapons in case, Silas reacts.
18:03Corey points out that it's good Charlie is gone, and the rest of his group supports him.
18:07Silas calls them all cowards, and they leave the community.
18:10When Alex comes out of the house and asks about Charlie,
18:13Ish tells him he left because he hurt Evie.
18:15Alex doesn't take the news very well.
18:17At that moment, Silas returns and asks to stay because he has nowhere else to go,
18:23pointing out that Ish was the first person brave enough to fight against Charlie's control.
18:27However, Ish doesn't let him in, saying that Silas is also to blame for watching Charlie instead of warning the family.
18:3320 years after the start of the pandemic, it's clear that the Earth is healing thanks to the lack of humans.
18:39Joey and Corey have been working hard and have managed to build a modified version of Da Vinci's flying machine.
18:44It needs some more adjustments, but they hope to be able to fly it soon.
18:48Everyone is excited, except Alex, who is still jealous.
18:51At night, Joey admits that he's not feeling well, and Ish prepares a root mixture for him.
18:56However, in the middle of the night, Joey enters his parents' room covered in sweat and suddenly collapses.
19:02Ish runs to get Molly, only to discover that Corey and other members are also sick.
19:07Molly points out that this is moving too fast, so it can't be a common cold,
19:12and suspects it might be related to the original virus.
19:14Ish starts arguing with her about how to proceed,
19:17but they're interrupted when Perry arrives, saying that she is also sick.
19:20Soon the whole family helps Molly take care of the sick.
19:23Still in denial, Ish takes care of Joey in his room, and has a vision of Charlie watching them.
19:28As time goes by, Ish spends most of his hours sitting next to Joey,
19:32which angers Alex because he knows his father wouldn't be as worried if he were the one who was sick.
19:37Sometime later, Heather returns, but she is alone because Rafe died.
19:41She realizes that her parents are tired and take a shift to care for Joey.
19:45But no matter how many days go by, Joey doesn't get better.
19:48Ish thinks that God is punishing him,
19:50for killing Charlie.
19:51Desperate, Ish decides to make a hole in the bridge barrier big enough for him and a bicycle.
19:56Now he can finally cross the bridge and reach the big city, which is covered in plants.
20:01He runs to the hospital, and after breaking down some doors, he finds lots of medicine.
20:06During his search, he has another vision of Charlie, and his guilt continues to haunt him.
20:11Ish decides to stop in the chapel and asks God to take him instead of Joey.
20:14Back at the house, Heather shares her journey with the others.
20:18She and Rafe drove north, but didn't find a single person.
20:21They were able to see the beach and admire its beauty, but the towns were neglected and rotten.
20:26One day, they saw some numbers with an arrow painted on a building.
20:29They began to follow them and found the same arrows painted on other buildings,
20:34trees, and even rocks, but they never led anywhere.
20:37In the end, they decided to stay a few days on top of a mountain.
20:41Suddenly, they heard a noise, and a strange man appeared in the forest.
20:45Heather tried to follow him, but he ran away.
20:48When the couple returned to their tent, the man reappeared and grabbed Rafe from behind.
20:52Rafe tried to fight him, but the man retaliated by stabbing him with a knife.
20:56Heather, furious, immediately threw an axe at him and killed him.
21:00Rafe was only able to say goodbye before dying too.
21:03After burying him, Heather began walking toward her house because her car broke down.
21:08Upon hearing all this, Jim starts drinking again.
21:11As soon as Ish returns, he begins preparing things for a blood transfusion,
21:16hoping to pass on his immunity to Joey.
21:18Heather immediately calms him down and advises him not to take extreme measures too soon.
21:23She then tells him to go to Molly because she has created a new medicine made from the U tree.
21:28Ish picks up Joey and takes him to Molly,
21:30who explains that the medicine may take a few days without taking effect.
21:34Since Joey is burning with fever, Ish give him an ice bath.
21:38A few days later, everyone starts to feel better.
21:41Molly explains that this is a strain of the original virus,
21:44and that she can only treat it because it is weaker.
21:47Meanwhile, Corey asks Heather for a description of the man who killed Rafe,
21:51and realizes it was Silas.
21:52Now he has to decide whether to keep this secret or not.
21:55Unfortunately, the medicine does not work on Joey,
21:59who says his last words to his parents and dies in his bed.
22:02Ish does not take it well and leaves the house at high speed,
22:05ignoring his family's concerns.
22:07He finds a sign that Emma painted years ago and covers it.
22:10Then he goes to the library and begins to throw and destroy the books in a fit of rage.
22:15At the house, they bury Joey along with some other people
22:17who also couldn't survive the virus and hold a small funeral.
22:21Later, Emma finds Ish still in the library with a match in his hands.
22:24She reminds him that everything had already happened before Joey,
22:28but that he still has other children and friends to live for.
22:31This convinces him to return to the house,
22:33but he still doesn't know how to live again.
22:35A few days later, Ish goes for a walk and finds a beautiful view
22:39of the perfect sunrise that shows what the world has become.
22:42When he returns, he tells the children that he did everything wrong.
22:46He has been trying to teach them lessons from the old world,
22:49but now they live in a different place.
22:51Ish announces that they no longer need him to teach them,
22:53because now the world is their teacher.
22:56A year later, Ish finally forces himself to enter Joey's room.
23:00While picking up all the things he doesn't use, he discovers Joey's journal.
23:04The boy had wanted to find more people even if Ish didn't agree
23:07and had begun designing a diagram for a radio with its own antenna.
23:10Wanting to celebrate his son's legacy,
23:13Ish tells the others that they have a new project to work on together.
23:16Finally, the radio is finished and the antenna is installed on top of the house.
23:20The machine works, but for now, no one answers.
23:24Ish spends every hour he's awake testing each frequency,
23:28hoping that someone out there will finally communicate with him.
23:30One afternoon, Emma convinces him to take a break,
23:33and they join a baseball game the others are playing using random objects from the house.
23:37They spend an afternoon full of fun,
23:39but Heather can't help wondering why a ball game has so many numbers.
23:43Ish explains that in the old world,
23:44everyone was obsessed with statistics, measurement, and categorizing everything.
23:49Hearing this, Heather remembers the numbers with the arrow,
23:53and Ish realizes they are frequency.
23:55The group runs to the radio and tries Heather's numbers.
23:58After a few minutes of silence, they finally get a response.
24:02There is a community of 77 members less than 100 miles away in what used to be a state park.
24:08After a debate, Ish's group invites these survivors to join their community.
24:1250 years after the pandemic began,
24:14an old Ish passes his hammer to Heather's oldest son.
24:17Ish tells him that his last lesson is that men and women come and go,
24:22but the land remains.
