The Prime Minister tells TV6 News Parliament proposes to have its first working session next week and more details will be revealed about the Government's rentals of properties.

She also says a bill regarding a key campaign promise will be among the first to be brought to Parliament.

And attention will also be paid to maintaining road safety while removing the Demerit Points System.

00:00Following the ceremonial opening of the new term of Parliament on Friday, it is expected that the next sitting of the House of Representatives and also the Senate will see the commencement of debates on legislation that will be in keeping with some of the campaign promises of the UNC given its special majority.
00:17Bills are usually brought by the government to the House of Representatives first. In light of one of the key decisions by the Cabinet during its first meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bosessa on May 8th, TV6 News has sent a question to the Prime Minister on Monday to find out if the bill required for the repeal of the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority Act will be among the first group of bills to be laid during the next sitting of the House of Representatives.
00:46Prime Minister Passat-Bosessa told TV6 News, quote, yes, it will be among the first group of bills to be laid in Parliament, end quote.
00:55During the ceremonial opening of the Parliament, President Christine Kangaloo referred to the government's intentions to repeal the demerit points system for errant drivers.
01:05President Kangaloo shared the pain of the loss of her sister and brother to road traffic accidents as she pleaded that whatever is done in this area, Parliament commits to ensuring enhanced safety on our nation's roads and to reducing road fatalities and related injuries.
01:23TV6 News saw the response from Prime Minister Passat-Bosessa about the possible repeal of the demerit points system.
01:29The Prime Minister replied, quote, we campaigned on certain promises which the electorate gave us a majority mandate to fulfill, therefore we intend to fully implement those promises, end quote.
01:43During the ceremonial opening of Parliament, the Prime Minister noted that the UNC has a three-fifths majority in the House of Representatives.
01:51A very special majority, the Prime Minister called it, and promised that her administration will not abuse that power.
01:58We also sought to find out from Prime Minister Passat-Bosessa when the next sitting of the House of Representatives will take place and if the issue of the government's rental of properties will be addressed during that sitting.
02:11At last week's post-Cabinet media conference, the Prime Minister said there were millions of dollars in questionable rentals of buildings under the former PNM administration, a claim that the PNM has denied.

02:27Parliament proposes to sit next week and yes, the Minister of Public Administration will release the rentals listing, end quote.
