00:00Hello, how are you? Come on in.
00:03Hello, ho, ho, ho.
00:03What are you, beautiful?
00:05Double whammy, how are you?
00:06Gloria Esipan.
00:07I'm super excited.
00:08This is going to be an amazing night,
00:10and the AMAs have always been special to me
00:12ever since I came back on stage at the AMAs in 1991.
00:17So we're tied for life.
00:20Oh, wow, I love that.
00:21And then what makes the AMAs specifically
00:23a special award show to you?
00:24You know, it's wonderful.
00:25The fans vote, and it's really something
00:28that Dick Clark started so many years ago
00:31to celebrate performers and their music.
00:34And I still remember the first time we won
00:36for Best Duel Group, Miami Sound Machine,
00:38back, I think it was, I remember if it was 89 or 91,
00:42something way back in the day.
00:44And then, obviously, I think it was January 26th of 91
00:49that I came back and performed Coming Out of the Dark.
00:51It'll always be very special.
00:53And this is your first time performing on stage
00:55in 30 years, right?
00:56Well, here at the end.
00:57Here, yeah, at the AMAs, yeah.
00:59How does it feel to be back?
01:01It's wonderful.
01:01It's great.
01:02It's a great venue.
01:03The theater's beautiful.
01:05Everyone's super excited, so I'm thrilled.
01:07And I mean, performing as a new album is coming out.
01:10That's right.
01:10So why can't you tell us about it?
01:12We're going to be doing one of those tracks.
01:13It's a little medley we're going to do
01:15because, you know, there's so many amazing performances.
01:17But it's tropical, very, it's hot rhythms, a lot of dance stuff on it.
01:23It's like a love story.
01:24Emilio's and my love story together.
01:26I did a track for my grandson that I wrote.
01:29Yeah, it's a lot.
01:29It's very from the heart.
01:32And I mean, also, to be honored at a show like this,
01:34when other people are being honored, Janet Jackson, other legends.
01:36Yeah, it's so amazing.
01:37How's the dude standing up next to other legends?
01:39You know what?
01:39It's like old home week.
01:41We got J-Lo.
01:42We got Janet.
01:43It's so amazing.
01:44We got Gwen Stefani.
01:46So, you know, there's a lot of decades being represented.
01:48Becky G, the young artist.
01:50A lot of decades represented in this show.
01:53And is your family with you here tonight?
01:55My husband's with me, yeah.
01:56Everybody else, they couldn't make it.
01:58But my husband, absolutely, is here.
02:00Where is he?
02:01And then, oh, there he is.
02:02Oh, look at him.
02:03By the way, you're looking sharp, my friend.
02:05Who, sir?
02:05You have to be the most proud man in the world, right?
02:08Absolutely.
02:09I'm so proud.
02:09You know, we've done so many things.
02:11And, you know, something she always says.
02:12I mean, definitely we celebrate music.
02:15You know, it's something that was so hard for us at the beginning.
02:17And we see now how, you know, so many people are open to play
02:21the diversity of music we have in the world now.
02:24Are you talking about the diversity of music?
02:25I've been wanting to ask you about this, okay?
02:27I'm a big Disney adult.
02:28And they have your song on the Cosmic Rewind on Guardians.
02:31Yes.
02:31Have you written it?
02:32Have you heard about it?
02:33Or how's that been?
02:34Oh, you better believe I wrote it.
02:35Like, yeah, Conga is on there.
02:38And I love it because I'm a huge Disney adult.
02:41And we loved it.
02:43And my whole family came out with me when we did the inauguration of it.
02:48And I love it that people say, oh, my gosh, we were on that ride
02:51and we played Conga.
02:53It's a perfect song to be on a roller coaster.
02:55I did it last week.
02:56And Conga came on.
02:57And I was like, yes, this is everything.
02:58I love it.
02:59And your lead single, it's topping the charts right now.
03:09And you said it was particularly emotional.
03:11What about that song connected with you and, like, really, really held strong?
03:16Well, Raices, written by Emilio, is the song that really made this album happen.
03:20He brought it to me a couple years ago and goes, you have to sing this.
03:23And it's about our roots, both cultural and family, that really move us through life.
03:29And that this entire journey, we can't forget where we came from or the people that love us
03:35and have been with us always.
03:36And I directed that video.
03:38We got a lot of old footage from the family that we worked in.
03:43And I'm in the middle of nature.
03:45I'm barefoot.
03:46Because I'm a Virgo, I love nature.
03:48So it's kind of like the video is life as a journey.
03:52So it's really special that it's crossed into all kinds of different charts.
03:56And it's still number one.
03:57Happy.
03:58And it's incredible.
03:59What was the final push to say, okay, now's the time for this album?
04:03Well, I had been working for three years with my daughter on a musical.
04:06And he came with this song.
04:08And he goes, it has to be you.
04:10And he said, do you trust me?
04:11I go, absolutely.
04:12He said, will you let me write this album for you?
04:14Because I couldn't veer away from the stuff I was doing.
04:17And I said, absolutely.
04:18And he wrote amazing songs.
04:20It's like a love letter between the two of us.
04:23And a lot of really hot dance tracks.
04:25It's awesome.
04:25But we can't wait to dance.
04:28You're going to see us in there.
04:29We're going to be in the crowd vibing.
04:32Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to us.
04:34You're incredible.
04:35Incredible.
04:35Incredible.
04:38You
