What appeared to be landing gear issues on board Caribbean Airlines flight BW 1530 heading to the ANR Robinson International Airport on Monday, caused quite a stir among passengers on board.
Elizabeth Williams spoke with some affected persons and has this report.
00:00We just had a landing air indication that we needed to be certain that the landing air was in fact down and unlocked.
00:08And we just did a low flyby and the drunk staff confirmed that it was down and we came back in for landing.
00:14So that's the reason for that episode. So thank you.
00:19The voice of the captain explaining to passengers the situation involving the flight delay landing at the A&R Robinson International Airport on Monday evening.
00:30On board the flight was PNM Tobago Council political leader Ansel Dennis.
00:35It was more concerned by the time we had the second go around because I wasn't sure what was happening at that time.
00:44So it was more concerned than anything.
00:46Another passenger said when he looked through his window and saw the Shaw Park complex, the port and then the Dwight York Stadium, it was then he knew something was wrong.
00:57Mr. Dennis said the circling of the aircraft for a second time was a matter of concern to him.
01:05Pilots did indicate that they had some kind of unusual indication on the instruments and that they were going to circle for some time in an attempt to sort it out.
01:19And then we came in a second time, which apparently was another attempt to land and then we had to go around again.
01:29So it was at that time I became a bit concerned because we had no communication to explain what transpired.
01:37Mr. Dennis said the third attempt to land was successful and the pilots must be commended.
01:43And then they explained that the second time wasn't really an attempt to land but rather a low fly pass so that the ground staff could have indicated to the pilots that the landing gears were actually down and in place for a safe landing.
02:03So by the time he came around the third time, that was actually the landing.
02:08I want to congratulate and thank the pilots for their professionalism.
02:14Of course, Caribbean Airlines has a stellar track record in terms of safety and that is why I wasn't really fearful.
02:25When contacted, head of corporate communications of Caribbean Airlines Dion Legault said on checking, there was no issue with the landing gear.
02:34The aircraft landed normally and safely and the aircraft was due to fly again in a couple hours.
