'Sesame Street' has been saved by Netflix. The streaming giant has inked a deal with Sesame Workshop for new episodes of the long-running children's show, just months after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew its output deal for the program in a strategic shift at its streaming service Max (which will soon once again be called HBO Max).

00:04The streaming giant has inked a deal with Sesame Workshop for new episodes of the long-running children's show.

00:10Just months after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew its output deal for the program,

00:15in a strategic shift at its streaming service Max, which will soon once again be called HBO Max.

00:20In a notable change from the HBO deal, new episodes of Sesame Street will also run day and date on PBS and the PBS Kids app,

00:28ensuring that they are easily accessible.

00:31Sesame Street has been available on PBS for more than 50 years,

00:34though during the HBO deal, the episodes debuted on PBS months after their HBO premieres.

00:39Sesame Workshop CEO Sherry Weston said in a statement,

00:43This unique public-private partnership will enable Sesame Workshop to bring our research-based curriculum

00:48to young children around the world, with Netflix's global reach.

00:52While ensuring children in communities across the U.S. continue to have free access on public television

00:57to the Sesame Street they love.

00:59The Netflix deal begins later this year with season 56 of the program.

01:03Netflix says the new season will be released in three batches.

01:07The deal with Netflix and PBS not only provides much-needed financial stability for Sesame Workshop,

01:12which is a non-profit, but also provides expanded access to the program for free,

01:17an extremely unusual arrangement for Netflix.
