Is it too expensive to send your child to school?: New data reveals secondary school costs parents £2,300 a year

The cost of sending a child to a state school is costing parents around £2,300 a year.

00:00well there's no doubt that parents they're sort of they're struggling in general because of course

00:06bills are going up um and indeed so the school costs are part of that and indeed buying clothes

00:12which of course you may buy your clothes from i don't wherever at um the prices they can afford

00:19but when it comes to school uniform your choice is very limited i know there's some personal

00:23experience um you have to buy the sort of the right uniform and if you don't then of course

00:28there's all sorts of issues and you don't want your child to sort of look different from the rest

00:32um and there's also an issue of course that sort of you buy clothes for your sort of children both

00:37primary school and secondary school and of course that's the age at which they're sort of they're

00:41growing so you buy clothes this year and they're sort of they don't fit the next year and so you

00:46have to then you do with them maybe you sort of you give them to someone else or maybe sort of

00:51but undoubtedly it's a sort of constant sort of struggle to sort of find the money to sort of

00:56give your child this is the best possible start which of course is to sort of sort of look the

01:00part and to feel the part and of course there's a whole lot of other things that sort of come with

01:05going to school which is school trips and school meals and so on and so forth so it's a major major

01:11expense for sort of parents who have probably sort of finged the sort of pinch left right and centre

01:15now interestingly a new law could see the price of school uniforms be slashed

01:20the department of education has revealed that parents spend around four hundred and forty two

01:27pounds on secondary school uniform a cap on branded items is set to come in as part of the children's

01:35well-being and schools bill this could see items of school uniform become more affordable to parents

01:41it's a real struggle at the moment for schools because of course their budgets are so shrinking and

01:47of course there's a whole set of other sort of demands that come upon them but then of course

01:51it comes to sort of the child the child has got to sort of both be physically sort of capable of

01:56learning which of course is about the sort of the you know their sort of nutrition and of course we

02:00hear lots of stories about sort of breakfast clubs which of course is about sort of trying to

02:04supplement that because of course if children go to school with a sort of an empty stomach then of

02:08course that's not good for them but also the psychological thing that if you sort of feel that you're sort of

02:13part of the sort of the system and you sort of fit in then of course that that that's how it should be

02:19it's so so vital because of course if they don't get their best possible start then of course the

02:24world can be sort of much more difficult than it needs to be
