00:00Let's start off with the Pirates.

00:02Paul Skeen's pitches yesterday against the New York Mets does what he does.

00:05Six innings pitched, one earned run, six strikeouts.

00:07Pirates still lose.

00:09We also know that Derek Shelton is no longer the manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

00:14Also, Bud Black was fired by the Colorado Rockies.

00:17You know, you don't generally, Matt, see managers fired this early in the season in May,

00:23let alone two managers.

00:24We could even have more.

00:25I guess we'll see.

00:26You know, they got an initial bump, it felt like, with Pittsburgh when they made the move.

00:30And, you know, they were seemingly playing a little bit harder.

00:34But, dare I say, for the Pirates and for Paul Skeen's, this may be a little bit of a lost season.

00:40It's starting to feel that way.

00:41And I think a lot of us went into the season with high hopes for them

00:44and thought they could make a nice run.

00:46And, obviously, Skeen's would be the centerpiece to that.

00:48But it just really hasn't been there.

00:50The offense hasn't been there.

00:51The bullpen hasn't been there.

00:53And, you know, you look at yesterday's game and you mentioned Skeen's.

00:55He pitched well.

00:57It wasn't necessarily an overly dominant starter.

01:00Maybe didn't quite have his best stuff with three walks and six Ks and six innings.

01:05But, you know, he left.

01:06They had a lead.

01:07They had a chance to win that game and immediately gave it up and didn't have a lot of, you know,

01:12additional run support.

01:13And that was that.

01:14And you might be able to get by with those kind of starts against some of the, you know,

01:19lesser teams of the league.

01:20But they were playing a really good team.

01:21And it just isn't enough.

01:22So, it doesn't just, it just doesn't feel like they're going to be able to put it together

01:26and they're going to be able to find it.

01:28And, you know, whatever moves they make, you know, Skeen's didn't sound too upset that

01:33they got a new manager now.

01:35He was kind of like, yeah, whatever.

01:36Someone's got to go.

01:37So, I don't know.

01:38This is going to be, I think, you know, maybe a long summer, unfortunately, for the Pirates

01:42in a season where they went in with so much kind of hope and optimism.

01:45Yeah, and Skeen's announced that he will play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic

01:50earlier this morning as well.

01:52He's moved ahead, by the way, Matt, of Yoshinobu Yamamoto to win the Cy Young based off Yamamoto's

01:57last start, I'm going to guess.

01:58This is kind of like varying back and forth.

02:00But I guess I would ask you at this point, like, the guy who gets the least respect always

02:05on this list because he never, like, you know, he never pitches eight innings and strikes

02:09out 15.

02:10He just, like, pitches to seven innings.

02:11He strikes out seven.

02:12And he gives up two earned runs, and he goes about his business as Zach Wheeler, who's

02:15always in the mix for the Cy Young Award.

02:17But on FanDuel, he is seven to one.

02:19Hunter Green currently hurt.

02:20I don't know that you could take that risk.

02:21But Skeen's, Yamamoto, Wheeler, those are the favorites.

02:24You agree with that?

02:26Yeah, I think that's a good group.

02:27I mean, I like Webb a lot, too.

02:28I think he gets undervalued a lot as well when we have these discussions.

02:32You know, and I know right now he's leading in Fangraph's war among that group.

02:36It's very tightly contested, of course, this early in the season still.

02:39But yeah, that's a good group.

02:41I think any one of those guys, it wouldn't shock me if at the end of the year they won

02:45the Cy Young.

02:45But I think, you know, people like to bet on Paul Skeen's for obvious reasons.

02:49He's the biggest star.

02:50But, you know, wins don't matter, obviously, as much as they used to.

02:55And team success for Cy Young doesn't matter as much as MVP for sure.

03:00But at the same time, if you're still on a last place team, I think it just makes it

03:04a little tougher to really get there.

03:06You really got to set yourself apart.

03:07And I don't think Skeen's has quite done that yet.

03:10So I definitely think it's still a race.
