00:00Yeah, you see him on BVB and, of course, on The Institution.
00:06In-game live with Scott Wetzel is Dave Sharapan,
00:08the Sportsbook Consigliere from Sin City via Pittsburgh, PA.
00:14And we were just talking about the Pirates.
00:16And, you know, every five days it's really exciting when Skeens pitches.
00:22And it's terrible watching him pitch because every time he pitches,
00:25they don't score.
00:27He never gets a win.
00:29But what is the deal?
00:31So he pitched into the eighth inning, gave up two hits, seven Ks, no decision.
00:36His ERA is 1.88.
00:38He has a 1.12 ERA in his last seven starts.
00:41Only one win in those seven starts.
00:45Honestly, I guess it's like DeGrom the year that he had the great ERA
00:49and never won because the Mets couldn't score runs.
00:52Isn't it frustrating to you to watch the Pirates,
00:54even though they swept the Phillies?
00:56Like, look at the – was it Saturday 2-1, Sunday 2-1?
00:59They still can't score runs even when they win.
01:01Yeah.
01:02First of all, it was great to see you and the boys.
01:04And, you know, Mafia said it while we were just waiting.
01:08Having him hit the lineup probably would actually help when he pitches.
01:11There's no way to do it because you can't.
01:13But, yeah, it's beyond frustrating.
01:17And the numbers would tell you, you know, the books have adjusted.
01:21The Pirates are a clear under team.
01:24The numbers are so low.
01:26You saw it yesterday with Skeens on a Hill.
01:29Six and a half was the total.
01:31It still went under.
01:34I don't know what has to happen.
01:35They're not going to go out and get a bat.
01:40So, it's going to be a lot of grinding, a lot of low-scoring games.
01:44The pitching staff has been the best in baseball in the last 30 days as far as the starters, ERA.
01:52They're all following in line.
01:54Now, with the change of manager, they're getting guys in the right spots in the seventh and the eighth.
02:00Bednar has been rejuvenated since he went down early.
02:04So, Scotty, we got a shot at winning some games.
02:07Now, I don't know about – I mean, they're buried.
02:09I don't think they can come back and, you know, they get codified.
02:12Are they 25 and 40?
02:14Yeah.
02:15It would be an unbelievable year and summer if they could do it.
02:19I just want to get them back to playing competitive baseball, which they are small favorites tonight against Miami.
02:25How many times have you seen a team 15 games under 500 get back to 500?
02:31Besides, like – I mean, it happens, like, once every 10 years.
02:37Like, who comes back from this?
02:39The last one that I really remember in the book was 2019 when Washington was just floundering and was terrible.
02:49And then we got to the all-star break and they could not lose.
02:51And we were all in a really good position in the book on them and kept going, they're catching the Mets.
02:59They are going to do this.
03:01There's no doubt about it.
03:02We're not even close to that, even having that conversation with the Pirates, Scott.
03:07So, let's just enjoy the ride.
03:10Hopefully, they have a good week this week.
03:12Take two or three minimum.
03:14I'd like to see them win three more in a row from Miami, who's been really bad.
03:19The pitching matchups kind of set up nice.
03:21Burroughs tonight, Keller tomorrow, and then we'll see what happens on Wednesday.
03:25Wasn't Miami playing Tampa or something this weekend?
03:28Was that what it was?
03:29Yeah.
03:29And they had a wild game.
03:31They had, like, this 13-12 game, and the Marlins actually won a game against them.
03:37They did.
03:38That was the only one they won all week, which is fine.
03:40You know, those games down in Tampa are wild.
03:43The games out in Sacramento with the A's are wild.
03:47We'll see what happens tonight.
03:50But the Pirates' number, let's see, double-check, is eight on the total.
03:54They're only minus 120, 125-ish.
03:57I feel like, you know, kind of a mark, maybe a little bit, a homer.
04:01But the Pirates are going to win tonight.
04:03Do you think that Henry Davis is starting to turn into a hitter?
04:07I think the potential is there, yes.
04:11I think if he continues to actually put himself in hitter's counts, yes.
04:17So, it's kind of one of those things that you've got to see happen as a player and probably as management.
04:24They've got to go, you know, we've got to get this guy out there.
04:26We've got to get him reps.
04:27We've got to get this.
04:27We've got to that.
04:28So, yes.
04:31Why don't they?
04:33I mean, he's the number one draft pick.
04:34He should be playing every day.
04:35What is the point of having him on the team?
04:38I've got to tell you, I'm going to be honest with you.
04:40I watch their games, and it's just the worst.
04:45I don't think I've ever seen him have a hit ever in front of my very eyes.
04:50Like, he's been on the team a few years now.
04:52I don't think I've actually ever seen him have a hit.
04:55I've seen him strike out a thousand times.
04:57I don't think I've ever seen him actually have a hit with his hands around a baseball bat.
05:01I've never actually seen him run to first base and be safe.
05:05I'm being honest.
05:06Yeah.
05:07Yeah.
05:07Sick and tired of it.
05:09Yeah.
05:10Well, all right.
05:11Well, maybe we can get him in every other day then.
05:14If he can't get a hit, maybe that's why he's not playing, Scott.
05:17Think about that.
05:18Did you see when this guy Brown from the Astros tried to start up with Don Kelly?
05:25Don Kelly's huge.
05:26He is literally, he looks like he's 6'7", 6'8".
05:30I mean, towers over everyone on the baseball field.
05:33I want to see that guy beat someone up.
05:36That guy's a Mount Lebanon guy.
05:37Is he a Levo guy?
05:38I don't know.
05:39Yeah.
05:39Yeah.
05:40Yeah.
05:40I'm from Mount Feminine, as you know.
05:42I don't, you know, I call it Mount Feminine, not Levo.
05:46But it is a nice place.
05:48I'll give you that.
05:48It's pretty nice.
05:50I got to ask you before I go.
05:53What did you think when they signed, officially got Rodgers there?
05:56I mean, he's out playing golf today.
05:58Oakmont is U.S. Open in Pittsburgh.
06:00It's going to take the centerpiece.
06:02It hasn't stopped raining for weeks.
06:04But, I mean, hopefully they get the whole U.S. Open in.
06:06Rodgers is a stealer.
06:08Do you believe it?
06:08I guess he'll join Neville Wood after all.
06:12And I think that he's going to like Pittsburgh.
06:18And I had to say, and I know I've already said on this show a million times, he's washed.
06:25I thought he was washed with the Jets.
06:27And then they started trying to tell me that he was, you know, had injuries.
06:30And that was why they never won and all this other stuff.
06:34But I had to say to myself, as you know, I'm a season ticket holder.
06:37So, I spend a lot of money to go to Pittsburgh on weekends to stealer games, flying, hotels, fancy restaurants.
06:48I mean, you know, I'm eating at Del Frisco's and everything else.
06:50I'm not, you know, I'm not over here eating at McDonald's when I go there.
06:54So, I spend a lot of money going to stealer games.
06:58And I said, the first thing I said was, well, I got to root for him because I'm going to the games and I'm paying all this money.
07:05I got to root for him.
07:06I got to root for him.
07:08Whether I like it or not, I got to root for this guy.
07:11I think he's painful.
07:12I'm not a fan.
07:13I don't like his interviews.
07:14I don't like anything.
07:15I'm sick and tired of him.
07:17I will say this.
07:19Before he went pro, I thought he was a great kid.
07:23Watching him in Juco, watching him in Northern California in high school, watching him at Cal.
07:28I think the NFL turned him into this massive D-head that he's become.
07:32Well, he has become the biggest D-head in the entire NFL.
07:36Without a doubt, he's the most painful drama queen in the entire league.
07:40There's no one close to him.
07:42But now I got to root for him, whether I like it or not, for one year.
07:45Can they win 10 games?
07:47Can they win 10 games?
07:48Don't they always?
07:49Wow.
07:51I think nine may be the ceiling, Scott.
07:53I've been through the schedule twice.
07:55I don't know.
07:56I'm done doubting the Steelers getting into the playoffs.
07:59My thing is, I always say the same thing, they're one and done.
08:03They get in and they lose.
08:05They suck, but they get in.
08:08That's true.
08:09They're still the third best team in the division.
08:10They won 10 games last year before December and then never won another game.
08:13And then they didn't win another game.
08:14Yeah, that's the problem.
08:17I mean, honestly.
08:18I don't know.
08:19It's frustrating.
08:21It's going to bring excitement.
08:22I think, you know, the Steelers social media team has really put out some
08:27unbelievable videos of, you know, putting Rodgers in different spots.
08:30And everybody's got them with that number eight on.
08:33Okay.
08:33I'm glad he didn't take 12 because a lot of old heads like us would have been
08:38like, wait, that's Bradshaw's number.
08:40We couldn't have him wearing 12.
08:41Can't have it.
08:41So, if they start out fast, he's going to endear himself to everybody at home
08:46and his Steelers fans.
08:48If they start out fast.
08:48Your new coach, the Penguins, real quick, you like him, this muse?
08:54I don't know the first thing about him, actually.
08:56I thought, okay, this is going to be different.
08:59It's a rebuild.
09:00Get a rebuild, coach.
09:02They're not getting Warner.
09:04Who do you like tonight in the Panthers-Oiler game?
09:07Panthers.
09:08Panthers to win.
09:10This game has likely under on it.
09:13Here in a man, Dave, we'll see you on in-game live tonight.
