01:26I wish I could be with you all today.
01:27He was killed during a road rage shooting.

01:34Took the man who shot me.
01:35And Diddy Combs' trial bombshell.
01:39Has the witness identified as victim number three vanished?
01:42Plus, queen of country.

01:49I'm doing awesome.
01:50I see all my friends.
01:51And live TV medical emergency.
01:54Oh, oh my goodness.
01:56Now, Inside Edition with Deborah Norville.
02:01Hello, everybody, and thanks for joining us.
02:03He may now be living in Vatican City, but Pope Leo XIV grew up in humble beginnings in this small brick house outside of Chicago.
02:11We've got an exclusive look inside coming up.
02:14But first, we begin with Mary Calvey, who is in Vatican City with the latest on the new Pope's first day on the job.
02:21Thanks, Deborah.
02:22New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan told me today about that emotional moment inside the secret conclave when the first American Pope in history was elected.
02:31Obviously, you're going through the names.
02:33And the names, at the end, when it kept being repeating, you could just see them kind of go slumped down.
02:40And that has to be, you could almost see literally a weight.
02:44But moments later, there were tears as he was hailed as Pope.
02:48We applaud.
02:49We tear up.
02:50He gestures to us.
02:52He goes and sits down.
02:53And he was a natural.
02:54We're saying, this is Pope Leo now.
02:57And it was, the transformation is phenomenal.
03:00It was, it was beautiful.
03:02So emotional for you, too?
03:03You bet it was.
03:04He said he asked the new Pope an important question.
03:07I whispered to him, Cubs or White Sox?
03:09And he said, White Sox.
03:11I said, okay, being from St. Louis, if it were Cubs, no, no.
03:15And Cardinal Cupich of Chicago revealed that support quickly coalesced around Pope Leo because of his work as a missionary and within the Vatican hierarchy.
03:24It's a sign to the world that we can deal with our differences in a constructive way.
03:30We can be a united humanity.
03:32I'll begin with a word in English.
03:34Pope Leo spoke English at his first Mass as pontiff before the 132 cardinals who elected him.
03:40Through the ministry of Peter, you have called me to carry that cross and to be blessed with that mission.
03:49And I know I can rely on each and every one of you to walk with me.
03:54He also sang parts of the Mass.
03:57Domine Patrice et Fili.
04:00Hours after being introduced to the world, he was given a hero's welcome at the Vatican Palace.
04:07Look, he happily signed his autograph for a teenage girl.
04:11Pope Leo has a busy weekend ahead.
04:13He's preparing for his first major public address Sunday, and he scheduled a press conference for Monday.
04:19Deb, back to you in New York.
04:21Thanks, Mary.
04:21The selection of an American as the next pope immediately set up a rush to learn everything about his background.
04:28And in the case of Pope Leo, the story begins in this humble home outside Chicago.
04:34Only Inside Edition has a look inside.
04:37It's the humble brick house where Pope Leo was raised in the small town of Dalton outside Chicago.
04:43Welcome to the pope's childhood home.
04:46Everything has been completely updated.
04:48The cottage has just been renovated and is for sale for $199,000.
04:54I would say that mom and dad slept on the first floor.
04:57Kids were up here, a very small, simple house.
05:01Here's what it looked like when Pope Leo lived there, a far cry from the splendor of Vatican City.
05:07The pope was born Robert Prevost, the youngest of three brothers.
05:11We always knew he was born to greatness.
05:13We caught up with the pope's brother, John, today.
05:16This is today's sun time.
05:18It kind of says it all.
05:20The pope attended the local Catholic school, St. Mary's.
05:23That's Pope Leo in second grade.
05:25The school has since shut down.
05:27But there's still a Catholic school in the neighborhood, St. Benedict's.
05:31Do you guys know where the new pope is from?
05:35No!
05:35Nicole Neese, a classmate of Pope Leo's, spoke to the students today.
05:41He was friendly.
05:43He was nice.
05:43But he was also a very, very good student.
05:47The pope is really a hometown hero.
05:48There's a celebratory mood in the air.
05:51CBS Mornings Plus co-host Adriana Diaz is in Chicago.
05:54It's all anyone here is talking about it.
05:57And it's not just the jokes about the White Sox versus the Cubs, although we now know definitively
06:01from his brother that he is a White Sox fan.
06:04But it's this feeling of someone from this city, which has so much pride, is really a leader of the world.
06:10It's a great honor.
06:11President Trump is celebrating the first American pope.
06:15He is very proud to have an American pope.
06:17I think it was a surprise to everyone.
06:19But some in MAGA world are not so enthusiastic.
06:22Steve Bannon called Leo the worst pick for MAGA Catholics and the anti-Trump pope.
06:29They pointed to this tweet from February criticizing the Veep.
06:33J.D. Vance is wrong.
06:35But Vance, who converted to Catholicism six years ago, wished Pope Leo well today.
06:40May God bless him.
06:42Across the USA, especially at Catholic schools, there was jubilation when the first American pope appeared at the balcony overlooking St. Peter's Square.
06:52Pope S.A. Pope S.A.
06:55The late night comics also celebrated the red, white, and blue pope.
07:00From now on, the pope's going to sound like this.
07:02Hey there, it's your buddy Leo.
07:06The deep dish papa.
07:07Now, let's end by saying da prayers.
07:11The man now known as Pope Leo for years has been known as Father Bob.
07:18In fact, that has always been how he preferred to be addressed.
07:21It's just one of ten things you might not know about the new pope.
07:25Fact number ten, the pope's favorite food is pizza, and his favorite pizza restaurant is in Chicago, Aurelio's Pizza.
07:33I mean, how important is it to know that the one leader for the Catholic faith out of the whole world was sitting right here in our restaurant at one time and grew up in this area.
07:42This photo of the pope in regular street clothes was taken when he had dinner at Aurelio's last August.
07:48This is the table where the pope last ate.
07:51It's now called the Pope Leo the 14th table.
07:54This chair is waiting for him if and when he returns.
07:57Number nine, the pope keeps his brain sharp playing word games.
08:01Wordle is said to be his favorite.
08:03He was even playing Wordle the day he became pope.
08:06Number eight, the pope has a whole bunch of titles now.
08:09Vicar of Christ, Archbishop of Rome, Sovereign of Vatican City.
08:13But his brother still plans to call him Bob.
08:16Number seven, he likes to sing.
08:19Here he is belting out Feliz Navidad in Peru where he served as a missionary.
08:23Number six, Pope Leo keeps in shape playing tennis.
08:33I'm quite the amateur tennis player, he said in 2023.
08:36Here's his high school tennis team photo.
08:39By the way, the Vatican has its own tennis court.
08:42Number five, which is the number of languages Pope Leo speaks fluently.
08:46English, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese.
08:49Pretty impressive.
08:50Number four, in his younger years, he had a mustache.
08:54And check out those sideburns.
08:56Number three, the pope's mom was a librarian and his dad an elementary school principal.
09:01Number two, he watched the hit movie Conclave just before the vote, says his brother.
09:06We both read the book.
09:07I said, now watch the movie and let me know what you think about it.
09:09He looked and mentioned all the things that they got wrong.
09:12And number one, did you know the pope gets a salary?
09:15About $2,000 a month.
09:17Sounds like he deserves a raise.
09:19Leo will be formally installed as pope on May 18th.
09:23That's when he holds his inaugural public mass in St. Peter's Square.
09:27A dramatic victim impact statement delivered in court.
09:30But the person speaking is dead, killed in a deadly road rage act of violence.
09:36In what is believed to be a first in trial history, the judge gave the family permission to use AI technology
09:43so that the dead man could speak directly to his killer.
09:47Amir Cagliano has more.
09:48I wish I could be with you all today.
09:51Hard to believe, but this man isn't real.
09:54It's an AI-generated image of a real man named Chris Pelkey.
09:59This is the actual Chris Pelkey before he was slain.
10:03I'm Chris Pelkey.
10:04I served with the United States Army.
10:07And this is AI Chris Pelkey.
10:09I am a version of Chris Pelkey recreated through AI that uses my picture and my voice profile.
10:14Side by side, it's hard to tell the difference.
10:17There's a surprising reason why the AI video was created.
10:21It's a victim's impact statement.
10:23And it was played in court at the sentencing of the man who killed the real Chris Pelkey.
10:29Gabriel Horkasitas shot Pelkey in a road rage dispute at a red light in Chandler, Arizona.
10:34I would like to make my own impact statement to Gabriel Horkasitas, the man who shot me.
10:41It is a shame we encountered each other that day in those circumstances.
10:45In another life, we probably could have been friends.
10:48I knew exactly what Chris would say.
10:50Pelkey's sister, Stacey Wales, wrote the words that her AI brother speaks in the video.
10:56I believe in forgiveness and in God who forgives.
10:59I always have.
11:00And I still do.
11:02What do you think your brother would think about this?
11:04I know he would be elated.
11:05What I wanted was to humanize Chris.
11:07The sentencing judge was moved by the video.
11:10I love that AI.
11:11Thank you for that.
11:13The AI video ends with this poignant sign-off.
11:17Well, I'm going to go fishing now.
11:18Love you all.
11:19See you on the other side.
11:21Incredible.
11:22The killer was sentenced to 10 and a half years in jail for manslaughter.
11:26With the selection of a jury in the Sean Diddy Combs case almost complete,
11:30prosecutors are preparing for opening arguments on Monday.
11:33But they admit there's a snag.
11:35One of their key witnesses against the rapper appears to have gone missing.
11:39This comes as we've learned that Combs' ex-girlfriend,
11:42who he was caught on video assaulting, is now pregnant.
11:46Here's Les Trent.
11:48Is a key witness in the Sean Diddy Combs trial backing out?
11:52Victim number three, as she's called, was set to testify against the music mogul.
11:57The name of victim number three was going to be revealed when she took the stand,
12:00but the woman has apparently gone missing,
12:03and prosecutors say they've been unable to reach her.
12:06The judge says she has a case of, quote, cold feet.
12:10People just get nervous, and this person could just be nervous
12:13and just has had second thoughts.
12:15If the prosecutor can't find this witness, how might it affect the case?
12:18Look, I don't think it's going to have a tremendous effect.
12:21The prosecution is going to call a number of alleged victims.
12:24So, look, this is one, just one less.
12:27Someone else is also getting cold feet.
12:29A juror sent an email to the judge asking to be removed from the panel
12:33for issues of personal well-being.
12:37Meanwhile, we're learning that the person prosecutors are calling victim number one,
12:42Diddy's ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, is pregnant with her third child.
12:46She's asking the judge to break every 90 minutes when she takes the stand
12:51due to her advanced pregnancy.
12:54The star witness is still expected to testify about that shocking videotape
12:58of Diddy attacking her in a hotel hallway.
13:03Combs has been incarcerated since last September.
13:06He has pled not guilty to all of the charges.
13:09It was a big night for Lainey Wilson at this year's Academy of Country Music Awards.
13:12She took home the night's biggest honor.
13:15We caught up with her and some of the other big stars on the red carpet.
13:21Call her the queen of country.
13:23Lainey Wilson!
13:25Lainey Wilson!
13:27Lainey freaking Wilson!
13:30Lainey Wilson took home four trophies at the ACM Awards,
13:34including Entertainer of the Year.
13:36Thank you to the fans.
13:37Thank you. I'm blown away.
13:39The crowd went wild when she performed her big hit, World Wind.
13:42Without you spinning round and round and round.
13:47Jelly Roll and Shibuzzi brought the crowd to their feet with their hit, Amen.
13:51Somebody say play for me.
13:54Megan Alexander caught up with Jelly Roll, who just lost 200 pounds.
13:58Jelly Roll, everybody on the red carpet at the ACMs. How are we doing?
14:01I'm doing awesome. I see all my friends.
14:03He even took a selfie with Megan.
14:05Jelly Roll, to anybody who wants to follow in your shoes, what would you say?
14:08Man, I would say you can do it.
14:09Even if you think you can't, you can't. Change is possible.
14:12Perhaps more important than who won what is who wore what,
14:16as country music's biggest stars dazzled in their best.
14:20Black was the color of the night.
14:22Nicole Kidman rocked a sleeveless leather tunic and black pants, sporting long hair.
14:27A stark contrast to the pixie-style cut she wore earlier this week at the Met Gala.
14:32Country's new queen, Lainey Wilson, stunned in a brocade jacket with a train.
14:37I wanted to wear something that kind of resembled a dress.
14:39I don't do dresses, but I just felt like this just felt very, like, classic country.
14:44I'm feeling girly tonight.
14:46This year, the ACMs were held in Frisco, Texas.
14:49We'll be back with more Inside Edition right after this.
14:52Next, where is everybody?
14:54Nearly empty flights coming to America.
14:56And tourism taking a big hit in the Big Apple.
15:00And live TV medical emergency.
15:02Oh, oh my goodness.

18:03If you're traveling to the United States, you probably will have your pick of plane seats.
18:08That's a flight from Toronto to New York, virtually empty.
18:12In what many say is a reaction to tariffs and the political climate,
18:15there has been a huge drop in recent weeks in travel to the United States.
18:20Jim Murray has our report.
18:22Stunning images of near-empty passenger planes are popping up on social media.
18:26These international flights have many tourists flying to the USA practically alone.
18:33Shawna Massengill flew from London to Chicago.
18:36Look, barely anyone on board.
18:38There was nobody there.
18:39There was nobody in my row.
18:40It was really shocking.
18:41I've never been on a flight like that.
18:43This flight from Toronto to New York is also practically empty.
18:47And a flight from Toronto to Fort Myers, row after row of empty seats.
18:52Munich to Las Vegas, same deal.
18:54Here in California, international travel is predicted to decline by 9% this year,
18:59driven by higher tariffs imposed by the Trump administration and negative sentiment toward the U.S.
19:05CBS travel editor Peter Greenberg.
19:07The drop in numbers of Europeans traveling to the U.S. is staggering.
19:11And depending on the country, it's down as much as 42% over last year.
19:16That's just Europeans not traveling to the U.S.
19:18He says the numbers are worse for our neighbors to the north.
19:22Canadians traveling to the U.S., down as much as 75%.
19:26You're coming in from Montreal?
19:27Yes.
19:27And how, was the flight full?
19:29No, it was about 70% full.
19:30Have you noticed amongst your fellow Canadians that they are less interested in coming here?
19:36Yes, many of them.
19:37Here in New York, tourism is also being hit big time, once again driven by negative sentiment toward the U.S.A.
19:46This year, 400,000 fewer tourists are expected to visit the Big Apple.
19:51But these visitors from France say they're happy they're here.
19:54And you're having fun.
19:56Yeah.
19:57I love America.
19:58I love America.
20:01Reuters estimates that the hit on the U.S. economy from the reduction in foreign travel is somewhere between $23 and $71 billion.
20:08We'll be back with more Inside Edition right after this.
20:12Still to come, live TV medical emergency.
20:16Oh, oh my goodness.
20:24I thought I was too young to develop shingles.

20:38I was wrong.
20:39I didn't know 99% of people over 50 already have the virus that causes shingles, and it could reactivate at any time.
20:47I learned the hard way.
20:49But you don't have to.

24:10When we come back, the boy who gave his mom the best Mother's Day gift of all.
24:15I have type 2 diabetes, but I manage it well.
24:19It's a little pill with a big story to tell.
24:23I take once daily, Jardians, at each day start.
24:29As time went on, it was easy to see.
24:32I'm lowering my A1C.
24:35And for adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease,
24:38Jardians can lower the risk of cardiovascular death, too.
24:40So, serious side effects include increased ketones in blood or urine, which can be fatal.
24:44Stop Jardians and call your doctor right away if you have nausea, vomiting, stomach pain,
24:48tiredness, trouble breathing, or increased ketones.
24:51Jardians may cause dehydration that can suddenly worsen kidney function
24:54and make you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or weak upon standing.
24:57Genital yeast infections in men and women, urinary tract infections,
25:00low blood sugar, or a rare life-threatening bacterial infection
25:02between and around the anus and genitals can occur.
25:05Call your doctor right away if you have fever or feel weak or tired
25:08and pain, tenderness, swelling, or redness in the genital area.
25:11Don't use if allergic to Jardians.
25:13Stop use if you have a serious allergic reaction.
25:15Call your doctor if you have rash, swelling, difficulty breathing, or swallowing.
25:18You may have increased risk for lower limb loss.
25:20Call your doctor right away if you have new pain or tenderness,
25:22sores, ulcers, or infection in your legs or feet.
25:24Jardians is really swell, the little pill with a big story to tell.
