As the PNM is preparing for its role in Opposition after its defeat in the recent General Election the party's new Chairman Dr Nyan-Gabsy Dolly, has joined the party's General Secretary Foster Cummings in a word of wars with a group calling itself PNM Changemakers 2025.
00:00In a statement on Friday, the PNM's chairman had a message for who she called its detractors and said some of them seem to believe that the PNM will be distracted from the rebuilding process by nameless, faceless, baseless, cowardly calls for resignations, audits, etc.
00:17Dr. Nyan Gatspidoli said, quote, as chairman of the PNM, I issued due notice on behalf of the leadership. The PNM, like the symbolic balisee, is down, but not out, denied, but not defeated, end quote.
00:30While not making mention of the PNM changemakers by name, the PNM's chairman identified a call issued by the Group for an immediate independent audit of the PNM membership database, a halt to any internal elections until this process is complete, oversight of future elections by a third-party auditor and the party's election committee, and the formal report submitted to and ratified by the General Counsel before the next convention date is set.
00:58PNM changemakers claims that two ineligible persons were permitted to vote in the most recent General Counsel elections, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the outcome.
01:09Following those elections at Balisee House on Tuesday night, the PNM's general secretary said 122 members of the General Counsel had been in attendance and that there were 60 votes for MP Gatspidoli, 58 votes for Port of Spain Mayor Chinua Lane, and four point ballots in the General Counsel's election for chairman.
01:27MP Colm Input was the only nominee for vice chairman. The PNM changemakers said the opposition party, quote, must embrace a new era of internal democracy, transparency and accountability, business as usual under Foster Cummings and his enablers will condemn this party to a generation in opposition, end quote.
01:45The PNM's general secretary said in response on Friday on his Facebook page that he is loyal to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the PNM.
01:53Mr. Cummings also said that given the information circulating in the public domain, he wished to state that he was not consulted and certainly did not approve of the strategy engaged by those who took the PNM from government opposition in furtherance of what he called their agenda.
