00:00Chinese takeaway China Panda in Fulham has been ordered to pay £13,000 in fines after
00:06repeatedly dumping fats, oils and grease into sewers for over seven years.
00:12The West London takeaway was taken to court after Thames Water tried to tell the takeaway
00:17to improve its waste disposal in 2018.
00:20China Panda was advised to install a grease management trap to stop the unwanted items
00:25from getting in its drainage system.
00:27It was then uncovered that the trap had not been maintained when blockages were reported
00:32in 2022 and 2023.
00:35This repeated failure led to enforcement action by Thames Water to protect both customers and
00:40the environment.
00:42China Panda was prosecuted at Reading Magistrates Court on April 25th.
00:47This is just one of 75,000 blockages a year that the water company deals with in its sewers.
00:53Thames Water say they are forced to spend £18 million a year on blocking similar sewage
00:58cases.
