Andy Burnham admits he had made the difficult decision to end the pension triple lock, allowing for financial support for older people but with "better social care support later in life". He adds he "doesn't want to see anybody in their twenties on benefits in the UK", but rather in work and education. Report by Kennedyl. 00:00I did take a difficult decision to lay a path to the National Care Service and it involves
00:05a change to the triple lock and I'm happy to stand at this dispatch box and defend that
00:11because I am confident that we should support older people financially but with better social
00:18care support in later life. That is my decision. I'm happy to stand here and defend it. Where's
00:24their decision on social care? When are they going to respond to what the report said?
00:30Yesterday. On welfare, I will do the same. I don't want to see anybody in their 20s on
00:35benefits in this country. I want to see them in work, in training, in education. And that
00:42is the reform that we will bring forward on the back of the Milburn report. She mentions
00:47inflation. She may notice that there is a situation ongoing in the Middle East where we don't
00:52have full control of that situation. But what I can say to her, the fundamentals of the
00:59British economy are getting stronger and stronger under this government.
