00:00According to the head of the energy chamber, Dr. Dax Driver, if we use more renewable energy, it will be to the advantage of citizens.
00:09He notes that it will result in less natural gas being used to produce electricity and more gas utilised by the petrochemical and LNG sector where all forex is owned.
00:22Dr. Driver adds that structural modifications can be made to accommodate small businesses.
00:27If we can adapt our regulations, as other countries like Barbados have done, and allow a lot more small-scale renewables onto the grid, that creates opportunities for small businesses.
00:41And we think this is something which we should very much be encouraging.
00:45That means changing the regulations around feed-in tariffs and to allow people to sell electricity or produce electricity and put it onto the national grid.
00:54He says, despite the challenges, the local energy sector remains vibrant.

01:04We just had an announcement just a couple of days ago of a major find of oil off the East Coast.

01:39The SIP project coming on stream, bringing natural gas in.
01:42The Mento project will be coming on stream shortly.
01:45According to Dr Driver, there is a lot of major activity taking place in the industry and perhaps the country needs to pick up the pace.
