Alphabet’s Waymo Scales Up AV Production With New Arizona Plant, Targeting Faster Deployment in Major U.S. Cities

Alphabet’s Waymo revealed Monday that it now operates more than 1,500 commercial robotaxis, according to TechCrunch. It is partnering with longtime collaborator Magna to produce over 2,000 additional Jaguar I-Pace EVs at a new factory in Mesa, Arizona. The Mesa plant is strategically located near Waymo service areas in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Austin. It is optimized for fast validation and deployment, enabling new vehicles to enter public service within 30 minutes of completion. Waymo's new process enables autonomous vehicles to enter public service within 30 minutes of leaving the factory or be deployed to other cities within hours.
