00:00Okay gentlemen, you've both been giving your instructions.
00:03Obey my command at all times, protect yourself at all times.
00:06Touch the love. Let's go.
00:08Serious out.
00:13Alright, we're ready for our first fight of the evening.
00:16A weekend in boxing that was supposed to just showcase all the talent in the sport.
00:22And yet, we've seen very little action in the ring.
00:25We hope that all changes with our first fight of the night.
00:27It's Rae Salim against Rudy Garcia, the kid out of South Central Los Angeles.
00:33Mark, who says, I don't back down from anybody and I'm as scrappy as they come.
00:38Well, he's representing LA.
00:41Even though I think he took Andy Vences, his nickname, right?
00:44Isn't that sharp?
00:46Yeah.
00:46You like how bilingual I am, kid?
00:48Well, it's because his father was nicknamed in Tiburon, so he took the Sharks nickname as well.
00:53So maybe Vences took it from his old man, yeah.
00:55He was out there in Yakima, Washington back in the day.
00:57I'll tell you what I like about this fight.
01:00Two guys who've been around with a lot to lose and a lot to gain.
01:07And you're going to see this is what the truth of the sport is, apart from social media, apart from everything else.
01:15And Rudy Garcia talked to us about, as Alim lands a nice, slick jab, just how he only has two knockouts in his career, but he fought a span about five fights after his second professional bout with a broken hand, a hairline fracture in his hand that he never took care of.
01:32And he says, that actually helped me develop a nice left hook, but now you can see my right hand in action as well.
01:38What I was saying before about each guy you hit on a year with Garcia, he broke a hand, and this is so typical, he went right back to work and didn't acknowledge that it was fractured.
01:51So he spent about five fights fighting with a fractured hand.
01:55He actually, twice, the last time he had it reset, and he did some PRP.
02:02I guess it's working well enough, but each of these guys has faced adversity.
02:08Alim, we saw him last time.
02:10I was pretty impressed.
02:11He's 34 years old.
02:14Most of his career, most of his professional career, he's got a nice record, 21-1.
02:19He's been trying to make ends meet as a security guard doing event security, you know.
02:24This is what real fighting is.
02:25This is what guys, you know, who don't come up out of the Olympics or with great Olympic pedigree have to do.
02:31And he says, look, I was in the running for the Espinosa co-main event spot.
02:36I ended up not getting it, but that doesn't discourage me.
02:39I need to continue to win.
02:40I need to continue to look impressive until they can't deny me another world title fight.
02:45You spoke about Alim's jab before, but I'm also impressed with Garcia as this sort of long lead hook.
02:54That's dangerous, though, because Alim is a type of fighter who can time that lead left hook,
02:59and, you know, you have to be quick and back with it if you're going to lead with the left hook.
03:04And Alim just has a really high boxing IQ that he's going to end up picking up on that.
03:13Nice straight right to the body from Alim.
03:19Alim does some nice body work.
03:21Now we're listening in to Salman Malik.
03:32Another third fight together.
03:42Want me to translate for you?
03:45Yeah, what is he saying, Mark?
03:47Win.
03:47We really need it.
03:54Every fight changes your life.
03:57And look, I don't know.
03:58I mean, you and Joe came out pretty hard on the Friday night card.
04:03But at the opposite end of the spectrum are fights like this.
04:07And to get where those guys were on Friday night, you have to endure tests like this.
04:12These guys have been enduring them each night of their career.
04:17And the winner will go forward.
04:19And the loser will lose something that neither of them has.
04:24Time.
04:25Absolutely.
04:26You've got 28 years old and 34 years old.
04:28I agree with that 100%.
04:29So, round two, let's see what adjustments Rais Alim has made after this first round.
04:35He usually likes to take his time early on in a fight, make the adjustments, and then take over the fight.
04:41But it's going to be hard against Rudy Garcia.
04:44Nice.
04:44See, that's what I'm talking about.
04:46And he learned that when his hand was busted up.
04:51He said, one of the things I couldn't do during those five fights when my hand was busted is I couldn't finish.
04:58But I did learn how to use my left.
05:00And if that's the shot he learned, man, it's pretty good.
05:02And then a nice left to the body, but Alim lands a counter right.
05:11Nice defense there from Alim.
05:13Alim lands a nice uppercut, but then Garcia comes back with a right of his own.
05:17Alim's body work is sensational.
05:20He's waiting for the shot, and then he's countering.
05:23And he's digging it in harder.
05:25If he can get something after the body shot, that'll be really effective.
05:30He can come over the top.
05:31And there we saw that double jab in the right hand from Rudy Garcia.
05:35And that's what he said he wasn't able to do when the hand had the hairline fractures.
05:38He says, I could land the left at will, but the right, I wasn't comfortable throwing it
05:42because I was in so much pain.
05:44Nice right just there.
05:45Exactly.
05:48Nice one-two from Garcia.
05:51Not showing any respect to the former interim titleist.
05:57A couple years ago, Alim lost to Sam Goodman,
06:01who probably in this country is best known for a couple of dates with Nwayne.
06:07Nwayne, that did not happen.
06:09But, you know, when we ask Alim, what do you want?
06:13Of course, the first thing he says, like everyone else,
06:16Nwayne.
06:17Let him get through Garcia first, okay?
06:20Nice combination from Alim.
06:22And again, anyone who wants to goof on boxing, okay, you're entitled.
06:33But look at this, because these guys have their whole worlds at stake right here.
06:37Beautiful, back in that stake.
06:40Come on, come on.
06:42Yes, right.
06:43Beautiful boxing.
06:44Beautiful, knock your head.
06:46Yes, take your pain.
06:49Beautiful, beautiful, baby.
06:51Beautiful, baby.
06:53Beautiful.
06:54Come on, back in that.
06:55Beautiful.
06:56After, short, short, short.
06:58Good.
06:58Go back.
07:03Yes.
07:03Garcia continues to be the same guy.
07:09Alim has more resources to go and change the fight in his favor.
07:20Pick it up, pick it up, pick it up.
07:23Four seconds.
07:29Now we'll listen in to Rudy Garcia Sr. in his son's corner.
07:33Let him get back in the round at the end.
07:41Hey, once he hits...
07:42He's gonna throw me here, por favor.
07:43Nothing.
07:44No.
07:51I want you to be explosive.
07:54I want you to be explosive with that gun.
07:57You get inside.
07:59Take a step back and crack him when he comes in.
08:01He's only catching you when you're inside like that.
08:02Yeah.
08:02You punch.
08:03You make him punch.
08:03You look like a good pair.
08:04OK.
08:05OK?
08:05OK.
08:07That's fast.
08:07It's yours already.
08:08It is an easy fight.
08:09You got it.
08:10Don't let him get into this fight.
08:11Don't let him get into this fight.
08:13Move your waist.
08:15You want some water?
08:16Mm-hmm.
08:17OK.
08:18We got this.
08:18Vamos.
08:19You know what's got to be the most difficult for each of these guys, when you know that
08:26you're relatively evenly matched, you know what the stakes are, patience.
08:32Absolutely.
08:34Rudy Garcia was telling us that he works as a range safety officer at LAX shooting range
08:40out there near LA International Airport.
08:42He's seen some stuff that he's confidentially I can't tell you about, but makes him a stronger
08:48human being.
08:49There we go.
08:50Alim's trying to catch the range.
08:56There's a 1 1⁄2-inch reach advantage in favor of Garcia at 70 inches versus 68 1⁄2.
09:02You know, whatever Alim's throwing is not enough to discourage Garcia.
09:09Watch the free.
09:10Watch the free.
09:11There goes that left hook again.
09:14Well, he's always been rugged.
09:18He has not been stopped in his loss against Mirko Cuello.
09:22He's dropped in the fifth round, cut over the left eye in the second, cut over the bridge
09:26of the nose in the third round.
09:27So he's as tough as they come.
09:29Rudy Garcia is willing to walk through fire to deliver his own shots.
09:35You know, I don't know if both guys are remarkably accurate or just not bothering to slip anything.
09:41But they're each landing an awful lot of punches.
09:44No knockdown.
09:45No knockdown.
09:47I can't do it.
09:48I can't do it.
09:49No knockdown.
09:50I can't do it.
09:51I can't do it.
09:52I can't do it.
09:53You can't do it.
09:54You can't do it.
09:55It's a nice combination there from Alim.
09:56Catching Garcia coming in.
09:59This is beautiful.
10:00This is beautiful.
10:01This is beautiful.
10:02This is nice.
10:04This is nice.
10:05You can't do it, this is nice.
10:06Nice jab from Alim.
10:08Body work from Aleem with the right.
10:16He's really committing Aleem,
10:19and he's leaving himself open to that counter right
10:21that Garcia just landed.
10:23It's funny that, you know, Aleem has the reach,
10:28and Garcia keeps pursuing, keeps up the pressure.
10:32Garcia's been better at distance,
10:34and Aleem's been better in the trenches of the body.
10:38Well, it's actually Garcia that has that one-and-a-half-inch reach advantage,
10:41so it is kind of to what you would expect would happen in this fight,
10:45and Aleem has to get on the inside.
10:57There you see a three-punch combination.
10:59I thought you were trying to confuse me.
11:01Nah, just trying to make you do some math.
11:04That's why I could say confusing.
11:05That's why we do this, Mark, because we're not good at math.
11:13Although I've seen you improve on your scorecards and adding them up,
11:16so I like it.
11:18It's either Sudoku or doing scorecards to keep your mind friday, Mark.
11:25Nice counter left from Aleem.
11:27That might be enough to win around.
11:28That's what you were just about to say.
11:29Hold the bell.
11:33You got 2-1 like me?
11:35I do.
11:35There you go.
11:36All right.
11:36Okay, genius.
11:371-2 is what Naoya Inoue does inside the ring.
11:40Last time we saw him, we had to get him really early against Ye Joon Kim to call that fight.
11:46Not me.
11:47Goodman, for the second time, suffered a cut in sparring.
11:51And Ye Joon Kim, the fighter out of South Korea, had to come in and just take the beat down like a man
11:57against a vicious Naoya, the monster, Inoue, who improved to 29-0, 26 knockouts,
12:05setting the scene for a fight like we have tonight against Ramon Cardenas.
12:08And Mark, he made no bones about it in our conversation that he wants the big names as we want the big names for Naoya Inoue.
12:16Look, I sat down with him this week, and he was pretty circumspect,
12:21but he was also very clear on a couple things as far as his future.
12:25What's your limit, I asked him.
12:27Featherweight.
12:28You know, he does expect to fight Nakatani sometime in 2026.
12:33Probably the next fight is MJ Akandalia at 22.
12:40He does expect to move up to Featherweight.
12:44Probably the first shot will be Nick Ball.
12:48But what he really wants, when I asked him, listen, you've been undisputed in two divisions.
12:53Can you be undisputed at Featherweight?
12:55The answer was yes, and that's the goal.
12:58Absolutely.
12:59To make history once again, Naoya Inoue.
13:01He says, I'm already walking a path that no Japanese fighter has ever walked before.
13:06And if you, you know, I know he's here on the other side of the world.
13:12He's a prohibitive favorite.
13:13But if you think for a minute he's not looking at everyone else,
13:17I said, hey, where do you rank yourself pound for pound?
13:21And he goes, I accept where the rankings are now.
13:24You know, I'm number two between Rusek and Terrence Crawford.
13:30But if I win these next three fights, I should be number one.
13:34Now, I'm sure Terrence Crawford would have something to say if he beats Canelo.
13:37I don't think he's that much of an underdog after what I saw last night.
13:42Yeah, that's the beauty of the situation we've seen with this pound-for-pound rankings, the top three.
13:47And depending on their performance, you know, once he beat Errol Spence,
13:52it was Terrence Crawford who was that man.
13:54And then you saw Inouye, I mean, yeah, ooh, nice combination there, but no knockdown as a trip.
14:01Then you saw Inouye become undisputed in two divisions, the first to ever do that.
14:05And then you saw Oleksandr Usyk become two-time undisputed by winning the heavyweight division.
14:12I don't think Usyk was something that anyone would have predicted twice with fury and being undisputed in heavyweight.
14:21And now the heavyweight division, he went through the best the division had to offer.
14:26Dubois.
14:27Watch it here, okay? Watch it here.
14:28Let's go.
14:30And I think Dubois improved fighting him.
14:32Absolutely.
14:33He's a belt holder at the time.
14:35So what I'm getting at is it's beautiful to have three guys at the top where,
14:39depending on their last performance, you can really put the winner at number one.
14:47Nice.
14:51Nice body work from Aleem, sets up the right over the top.
14:56Go back.
14:58Box.
15:02Nice combination punches.
15:03That's right, yes, right.
15:04He seems to have settled in now, Mark.
15:06Let him go.
15:07Not getting hit by that lead left.
15:09I saw him get hit by a lead right a couple seconds ago.
15:12Well, he's not the lead left.
15:15There it is again, the right.
15:16There goes that hook, though.
15:22Stab jab right at the chest.
15:30On the bell.
15:32Right.
15:33Stop.
15:34Step back.
15:34Step back.
15:35Another close round.
15:36We hit through four.
15:37Rudy Garcia, title holder.
15:39Raisalim.
15:40Who are you giving that one to?
15:43I'm going to give it to Garcia.
15:45If I'm going to give Aleem the courtesy at the end of the last round, I'm going to give
15:48Garcia courtesy at the end of the last round.
15:50All right, now we can't hear Salman Malik.
15:53I think you're a little bit more cleaner right here.
15:54Understand?
15:56Beautiful.
15:56Take a nice deep breath.
15:58Yo, every time you go body and head, you have that option for you.
16:01He's there for it, okay?
16:03Jab to the body, right hand on top, but keep the right hand short, okay?
16:06Stay low when you're coming out.
16:07He's doing the work for you.
16:09You need to get the combination a little bit more cleaner.
16:11Okay.
16:12Shoot the chest.
16:12Shoot the body.
16:14Nice, calm and composed, bro.
16:16Water.
16:17Here.
16:19Beautiful.
16:20Nice, calm and composed.
16:21I need you to up the pace a little bit more, okay?
16:23Now we're in the fifth round, fourth round.
16:25Now we start parking it up.
16:27Understand?
16:28Deep breath.
16:29Be first behind that jab, okay?
16:32He wants that right hand.
16:33All right, let's go.
16:37I thought that Salman Malik, you know, there's a quality to a coach's voice.
16:44First of all, you've got to be able to understand him, and you want to know,
16:47hey, is my coach calm?
16:49And that was a calm coach making himself heard.
16:53Precise instructions for Raiz Alin.
17:00Garcia says, I got my own instructions.
17:02That's to make this a fight.
17:04I'm the shark.
17:06And I'm on the prowl.
17:11Garcia's just missing with that lift.
17:13Those fighters are reaching here in this fight.
17:25I think that goes to the point of what's at stake and how difficult it is to be patient.
17:30This was another great lap from Garcia.
17:33Rob the bank, get the fuck out.
17:36That's great instructions for Alin.
17:38Rob the bank and get out.
17:40There's a little expletive in the middle of that.
17:42I want to keep my job.
17:47Isn't that the universal instruction in the boxing business?
17:51It pertains to all the boxes.
17:53Yeah, but saying it that way was actually pretty cool, though.
18:01Reminds me when Floyd Mayweather walked into this same building
18:04against Conor McGregor wearing the mask saying,
18:07this is a bank robbery.
18:09You heard Malik's tell Alim downstairs, upstairs, upstairs, upstairs.
18:22At some point, you've got to figure the body work has to slow Garcia down.
18:28I haven't seen that yet.
18:31Garcia was breathing pretty hard over there in that corner.
18:34Do you see his pace slowing down, though?
18:36No, not at all.
18:37A little bit less offensive, though.
18:42He's not throwing as many throwaway shots as he was earlier.
18:47Triple jab, and he gets countered by Alim.
18:49That's what Salman Malik was saying.
18:58You're allowing him to do all the work.
19:00Make him pay.
19:00Stop.
19:01Stop holding, okay?
19:03Box.
19:04One, one, two.
19:06That's a nice shot.
19:09Go back.
19:10Go, go, go.
19:11Step back.
19:12Box.
19:12Nice stick from Alim.
19:21Because you want to paw around and just pose.
19:26Here, take that jab.
19:28He's at a right hand.
19:29Nice.
19:31Body, body, body.
19:35Beautiful.
19:36What's your head, buddy?
19:36This strong.
19:42Halfway through this hour opening fight of the night.
19:49We'll listen in to Rudy Garcia, Sr.
19:51You can't let him think.
19:53That's the key.
19:56He only hits you when you let him think.
19:58They're not going to give you any of the close rounds.
20:04You've got to just keep touching him.
20:05Big best.
20:07If Rudy, Sr. is right.
20:17Don't let him think.
20:18Just throw that jab first, and then you set up the other shots.
20:26I'm not going to give you any close, anything close is not yours.
20:30You hear me?
20:32If he's telling his...
20:34He's telling his son the only way he can win is by pressing the action.
20:43He's really limiting it for him.
20:45I mean, he's exposing his kid.
20:47If they're going to presume they're not going to get fair scoring,
20:51or that the benefit of the doubt is going to Alim,
20:53then there's really only one way he can win,
20:55which is by, you know, amping up the pressure,
20:59amping up the pressure, amping up the pressure.
21:01Look, in his last fight against undefeated Mirko Cuello in September of 2023,
21:06which is a long time ago because he didn't fight in 24,
21:09he was dropped, but more importantly,
21:11a potential knockdown was not called due to his...
21:14He's landing a cuffing shot,
21:16so he knows that he's up against it
21:17as Alim lands a nice left hook there,
21:20and now a one-two combination after a right from Garcia.
21:22And Alim has some ranking now.
21:25Yes, sir!
21:26Oh, this is beautiful!
21:28Come on, come on!
21:30Keep it off the jab!
21:31Keep it off the jab!
21:32Touched the jab!
21:34Nice, Ryan!
21:38Beautiful!
21:38Right hand is there!
21:40Beautiful!
21:42Good airing from Garcia, go ahead.
21:44Alim was...
21:45Yes, sir!
21:46Pretty accurate in his self-assessment off last time.
21:50Look, I dropped my hands a couple times,
21:52but I hit one I shouldn't have.
21:55Let's see if he can eliminate that down the stretch here.
22:00Let it go, let it go.
22:02Uh-oh, no, go, go, go.
22:06It's like that flick hook.
22:08Yeah, because it's not a...
22:09He doesn't really throw it as a jab.
22:11It's almost like a...
22:12Like, he tries to set up a jab and throws it as a flick hook.
22:16I think that's a right...
22:16He turns it over at the end of it, you know?
22:18Nice shot with the body, by Garcia.
22:22Yes!
22:27Now here we have a lean coming forward.
22:43Car, these rounds are tough.
22:45Neither one is landing much clean.
22:49You know, the guys in the production truck are like,
22:51hey, not much is landing, but at least they're throwing.
22:53You just don't trust me with the replays coming.
22:55Right!
22:56Step back.
22:57Step back.
23:02I saw that one hand right coming in.
23:05The right hand right there!
23:06That was a nice right from Garcia.
23:11Thank you, I'll raise you.
23:16It's just a chopping right hand from Garcia.
23:18Step back.
23:19Mark it down.
23:20Oh, see, I've got it over here.
23:22Look up.
23:23Stop!
23:24Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
23:25Don't worry about this.
23:26Okay.
23:27Allen Huggins stopping the action with his voice,
23:30and you could just tell the authority he had in that moment
23:33because Aleem thought about throwing that shot
23:35while Garcia was turned around.
23:36Beautiful!
23:36Take your head off the count.
23:40Ten seconds.
23:44Beautiful.
23:45See my job?
23:46Here's a good one.
23:48Ha!
23:53Following the trail of one Emanuel Navarrete,
23:56who will be our headliner next week,
23:58Rafael Espinoza, from unknown to world champion,
24:02started off his run against Rafael Rosas Ramirez,
24:06Ali Morangi,
24:07and then the world title shot against Robesi Ramirez.
24:10Both fighters down,
24:11but it was that 12th-run knockdown
24:13that gave Espinoza and Divino his first world title.
24:17Then a dominant knockout against Sergio Chirino,
24:19and last December, Mark,
24:21it was a stoppage.
24:23That shot to the eye of Robesi
24:26that Robesi claims was an elbow,
24:28but Espinoza says was a punch.
24:3022 knockouts and 26 wins.
24:32He will be in our co-main event
24:34against Edward Vazquez.
24:36You'll never have to worry about
24:37Rafael Espinoza
24:39not fighting with everything he has.
24:42By the way, after extensive film studies,
24:44Timothy Bradley, our Timothy Bradley,
24:46has concluded definitively
24:48it was not an elbow.
24:50I defer to him.
24:51Absolutely.
24:52Espinoza agrees, by the way.
24:54Why wouldn't he?
24:55But nonetheless,
24:57just the punch volume,
24:59the desire to impress every timeout,
25:01he will open up our ESPN card
25:04immediately after the Dodgers game,
25:07and that will be at 7 Pacific,
25:0910 Eastern on ESPN.
25:11We hope he'll join us.
25:13Nice.
25:14A combination of both guys
25:16landing their short left hooks.
25:17Nice overhand right from Aleem,
25:31and now the left hook from Garcia.
25:33Nice and short.
25:34Knock my jack to the bottom.
25:36Yes, sir.
25:38That's a left hook from Aleem
25:40as Garcia just stayed there
25:42a little too long.
25:43Prettiest punch in the box.
25:44Nice and clean.
25:48Come on, do it.
25:49Come on.
25:49Another side.
25:50Let it go.
25:50Let it go.
25:51Hands free.
25:56Now Aleem's found a home
25:58for that left hook.
26:00Garcia keeping that right hand down.
26:03Now he brings it up
26:04to the defensive position.
26:06Double jab.
26:07Aleem is less concerned
26:09about the body.
26:10We're not sure that's why.
26:11That was working for him
26:14early on.
26:15Beautiful.
26:17The corner of Garcia
26:18wants a different shot though.
26:19Hands free.
26:20Drop it.
26:20Hands free.
26:21Let it go.
26:22Stop.
26:23I almost think Garcia
26:24is better when he lets Aleem come in.
26:26Come on, baby.
26:27Come on.
26:28Beautiful.
26:28Beautiful.
26:29Get it.
26:30Get it.
26:30Get it.
26:31Nice and short.
26:32Nice and short.
26:33Get it.
26:33Make it back.
26:34Get it.
26:34Get it.
26:35Get it.
26:35Get it.
26:35Get it.
26:36Get it.
26:36Get it.
26:36Get it.
26:37Get it.
26:37Get it.
26:38Get it.
26:38Get it.
26:39Get it.
26:39Get it.
26:39Get it.
26:40There goes the body work.
26:47Beautiful.
26:48Keep it turning.
26:50There's that right and left
26:52downstairs from
26:53Rae Salim.
27:00Garcia's tough though.
27:03He's fighting for his career.
27:06Body shot from Aleem.
27:08Stop.
27:09Go back.
27:10Boxing.
27:10You must have heard me.
27:16That's that one-two from Garcia.
27:17And that straight right hand.
27:20Aleem felt that one.
27:23Just like last round, the left hook from Aleem was the best punch we'd seen all fight.
27:28I think that was the best right hand that Garcia's landed.
27:30Can you imagine a guy like this fighting five times out with a busted hand?
27:43That's so boxing.
27:44That's so boxing.
27:45On the ball.
27:46On the ball.
27:46On the ball.
27:47On the ball.
27:53Great.
27:54Great.
27:54Those rounds here.
27:55Through seven.
27:56Aleem and Rudy Garcia.
27:58Right before we move over to our ESPN main card, it'll be Rohan Polanco, the man who in our fighter meeting asked Timothy Bradley,
28:06why am I not number one on your double stamp prospect list?
28:10That was the first thing he said as soon as he walked in because it means something to him and his trainer, Hector Bermudez.
28:17But tonight, he looks to take on Fabian Maidana, yes, the brother of Marcos and Chino Maidana, who told me, look, I'm going to test Polanco to see if he can deal with the high level of competition that I bring.
28:30And I think this is a perfect step-up fight in his 16th pro bout.
28:34This is an extraordinary talent.
28:37I mean, I'm curious if he went up to 47 too early, Polanco, you know.
28:43But either way, he's an extraordinary talent.
28:46And when he told Timmy, you know, why, you think Timmy was getting nervous?
28:53Tim never gets nervous or intimidated.
28:55Come on, man.
28:56It's Tim Bradley.
28:57Timmy was going to go across the head party.
29:00Yeah, right?
29:03Rohan Polanco against Fabian Maidana.
29:05That will be right after 6 p.m.
29:09before we move over to our main card on ESPN featuring a dual bill of world title fights.
29:16Rafael Espinoza putting his featherweight title on the line, hoping to earn a shot at Naoya Inoue's big money in Japan.
29:24And that will be the monster returning to the U.S. for the first time in four years.
29:28I like how Garcia came out with the double jab, and I think he's got to do more of that as long as he doesn't get time.
29:36He's really got to establish the distance and make room for that right hand.
29:40He was able to land it last round.
29:43How can he build on that momentum?
29:46Nice body shot there from Garcia right to the body.
29:49I thought Alim won the last round.
29:51I mean, just with the preponderance of body work.
29:53Yeah, I did give it to Alim.
29:55The best shot was that right hand from Garcia, but the higher work rate and more efficiency was on the side of Rais Alim.
30:03Beautiful.
30:04Beautiful.
30:05Come on.
30:05Double jab.
30:07Keep turning it out.
30:09Yes.
30:09Yes, sir.
30:10Keep turning it.
30:12Beautiful.
30:12Salman Malik says keep turning him, and that's what you want against a puncher like Garcia.
30:17You don't want to let him get set.
30:19And I think I did hear Garcia Sr. Primero, Primero, be first.
30:25Thank you, Mark.
30:26He's right, though.
30:27My man.
30:27No, but, you know, get with that jab and be first.
30:32No, I'm impressed, Mark.
30:36Back of my stick.
30:37Back of my stick.
30:39Back of my stick.
30:40You say you'll be translating for me.
30:44I can't even speak English.
30:47But you can write it.
30:51It's true.
30:54Not a bad round so far for Garcia.
30:56Until that lead left for Malim.
30:59So I'm going to take a page out of your book.
31:08Watch your head.
31:08Watch your head.
31:09That was a nice bodyship.
31:11Watch your head.
31:12Don't you have a book coming out?
31:14I do have a book coming out.
31:15You think I would shamelessly promote?
31:17Headbutt.
31:17Other times you know headbutt.
31:18On an undercard?
31:19Go.
31:20Wait till the main thing.
31:21I was going to say.
31:22Wait till the main thing.
31:23No, it always in the ring.
31:25Get your money's worth.
31:26Nice left hook there for Malim again.
31:32This has been his round of left hooks.
31:37Now the combination.
31:39Three punches for Malim.
31:46Garcia's got to come behind the jab with that lead left hook because
31:49you can't just walk in and let Alim catch you.
31:52Beautiful.
31:57Beautiful, right?
31:57First.
31:58On the back.
31:59On the back.
31:59I need you to keep the fucking hands up.
32:07Need those hands up.
32:09Beautiful.
32:10Let him blow his nose.
32:13Beautiful.
32:14Okay.
32:14Beautiful fucking boxing here.
32:16You're turning him side to side absolutely at your will.
32:19Okay.
32:19Just keep him at the end of the jab and keep pot-shotting him.
32:21You're pot-shotting the way that you want.
32:23Let's watch your hands.
32:23Okay, guys.
32:24Yo.
32:24Short right hand is there.
32:26Okay?
32:27What round?
32:27This is round nine going into it.
32:29Okay?
32:30Yo.
32:30Yo.
32:31I need you to signify that you're the best in this round.
32:33Okay?
32:34Mark, here's a lead left hook from Malim that finally landed clean.
32:37Mm-hmm.
32:39But again, I like what Malik told him.
32:43I need you to signify that you won the round.
32:46These rounds are so close that one or two clean shots that the image of it that stays in the
32:52judge's mind.
32:53That's enough to win the round.
32:54Like, I'm still looking at six.
32:56What was six?
32:57Yeah.
32:58You know, the other ones, I figure one I can figure out, but they're so close.
33:02There's several swing rounds here that could change the fight in either direction.
33:07Look, for Rudy Garcia, this would be a huge upset.
33:09For Rae Saleem, if he loses, that would be a huge disappointment to allow a fighter like
33:14Rudy Garcia, 13-1-1, to come in and to, you know, really trouble him as much as he
33:20has.
33:21I do think you're going to see either of these guys, both of these guys, certainly on top
33:26brand cards, again, but Alim is much closer to where he wants to be than Garcia.
33:34And he also has less time at 34 years old.
33:36Yeah.
33:37And he also has less room for error, Mark.
33:38We talked about how he was on the short list for a fight with the world title tonight against
33:44Rafael Espinosa, the featherweight world champion.
33:48And this is the type of performance that if any other generation wouldn't get you a shot,
33:53it may get him a shot now.
33:54You know what I mean?
33:55I still think, look, he's got some work to do.
33:58He wanted to close the holes.
34:00He said he dropped his hands last time, a couple of times, but he is game.
34:07He's not going to cheat you on effort.
34:10He's going to give you, both of these guys are going to give you everything they've got.
34:13I think what I'm seeing from Alim, and just that IQ that we were talking about, like taking
34:18advantage of the fact that Rudy Garcia was trying to hold him against the ropes and he
34:21lands a nice uppercut.
34:22And those are the things that may give him the difference in the judge's eyes.
34:29He's under pressure.
34:31He is composed.
34:33And Garcia can be quite basic and repetitive in how he attacks.
34:36Short arm did a little bit, but it was a nice right hand, nice body work.
34:42And again, Alim is just a little bit more crisp, a little bit more precise.
34:47That's a nice right there from Garcia, though.
34:50I thought it was Alim coming over.
34:54Oh, okay.
34:55The action is so fast.
34:58Yes.
35:00But I got old eyes, though.
35:01It's more action than we saw all week, Friday, Saturday combined.
35:06Hey, let's be serious.
35:08We've had plenty of dogs ourselves.
35:12But not, we're going to bill it as, you know, the best we get in boxing history.
35:18I thought Tiafimo, first of all, I thought Tiafimo.
35:21Nice left hook there from Alim.
35:23He's been the most talented guy in that relative weight in that generation.
35:30The most exciting guy.
35:31He's got the best resume.
35:35You know, when you fight Barboza, and even if you look at Tiafimo's face, you know, you fight Barboza, you know you fought.
35:41And the idea that, I don't think that Tiafimo has quite, doesn't have the same power he had at 35.
35:47You know that, boom, fights out power.
35:48I'm just glad that he didn't fight down to the level of Barboza that night.
35:53No, but I've never seen Barboza.
35:56He was a really good fighter.
35:57He was 32-0.
35:58No, I've never seen Barboza neutralized like that either.
36:01So give credit what credit's due.
36:02He wasn't the volume puncher that we're used to seeing because Tiafimo was smart enough.
36:08And I think there's now blood on the face of Ed Tiburón.
36:16Light cut.
36:17What I do have is Alim winning the last three rounds.
36:20Last round.
36:20Yeah, I agree.
36:22You're not listening to me.
36:25You're not listening to me.
36:26Hey, Dad, it's hard.
36:27¿El agua?
36:28Give me the water.
36:30Yeah.
36:36Respira, Rudy.
36:37Take a deep breath, son.
36:40Está muy, muy cerrada esa.
36:42It's a very close fight.
36:45No te dejes ir con la cabeza.
36:46¿Por qué lo estás agarrando?
36:48¿Estás lastimado o qué?
36:49¿Por qué graban a mano?
36:49¿Entonces?
36:51¿Para qué chingos estás ahí adentro?
36:52¿Por qué chingos estás ahí adentro?
36:52¿Por qué chingos estás ahí adentro?
36:53¿Por qué chingos estás ahí adentro?
36:57He agreed that you weren't going to be on the inside.
37:00Shit, man.
37:02Tienes que poner presión con distancia.
37:04You got some pressure from the outside.
37:06You got to leave it all here, Rudy.
37:08All right, good job, guys.
37:10Okay?
37:10I asked Rudy yesterday, hey, man, during those years,
37:14your hand busted up, why didn't you quit?
37:17He goes, I just stayed in the gym.
37:18I'm still hungry, and this is it, Rudy.
37:23Oh, nice left hook there from Garcia.
37:28He's going to have to sell out here.
37:34Good job, good job.
37:35You know, I think the theme of all the weekend in boxing
37:39has been, who was least worst?
37:42That's it.
37:43Like, no, the theme was solid.
37:45No, no, but I think it, I think when we paint with such a broad brush,
37:49it tarnishes guys like this who are out there.
37:52Maybe they're not that level of talent,
37:55but they're giving everything they got.
37:57I mean, coming into the night.
37:58No, I understand what you're saying.
37:58You know?
37:59At least these guys have the heart to give you a battle.
38:03Those guys didn't get where they got without having the heart.
38:08I think that sometimes once the, like, I'll tell you the truth,
38:11and I was arguing about this with Tess.
38:14I thought that the main event was interesting.
38:17I liked seeing Roley win.
38:19Not having any beef against Ryan Garcia,
38:23but I saw an upset in a big fight, you know?
38:26And the right guy won.
38:28It wasn't, you know, it wasn't home or scoring.
38:30Yeah, I mean, look, Roley did just enough to win,
38:32and that's all it took.
38:33That knockdown mark, you know.
38:35I've criticized, excuse me, I've criticized Roley, you know,
38:38as, like, an ideal opponent before me.
38:40Guess what?
38:40He wasn't that night.
38:41He stood up, and he put the other guy down.
38:43Good for him.
38:44The irony of that is what worked for Ryan Garcia so well
38:48against Devin Haney is what ended up costing him the fight.
38:51That left hook delivered by Roley Romero.
38:55Congrats to him.
38:56Said he didn't have a hotel room, he didn't have anything
38:59when he got to New York, and he says,
39:01I didn't complain, I just went out there
39:02and beat their guy.
39:05Who didn't, Roley?
39:06Roley.
39:07That's what he did.
39:07Watch it here.
39:08Here we go.
39:11What car did he come out of?
39:13It wasn't the checker cab, right?
39:14No, but, uh, Ryan came out on the Batmobile.
39:19I know, I saw it.
39:19Short, short, short, short.
39:25Tiafino, I think, came out on the checker cab, right?
39:27My job is perfect.
39:28Have you ever been in the checker cab?
39:29Absolutely.
39:30No.
39:30If you've been to New York, you've been in the checker cab.
39:33Come on.
39:33There hasn't been a, this is what I, oh.
39:36Garcia's cut now.
39:38Yes.
39:39Bleeding over that right now.
39:40Danny DeVito was driving the checker cab back in the day.
39:43No, no, he, he just ran.
39:44Remember that, Sean?
39:45Come on.
39:46Taxi, come on.
39:48Has it been a checker cab?
39:49I haven't seen a checker cab in only 20 years.
39:51Okay, how old am I?
39:52I'm old enough to have been in the checker cab.
39:55You are?
39:56Yeah.
39:57To fold up seats?
39:58They're pretty cool.
40:00All the barrel.
40:01First time you ever visit New York.
40:03Get picked up in the airport in the checker cab.
40:05Amy, good showing for Aleem.
40:08But.
40:09Garcia got nothing to be ashamed of.
40:12Just, it is what it is.
40:15Rae Salim hoping to continue his climb toward a second world title opportunity.
40:19A natural southpaw who fights orthodox.
40:24And look, we knew the cream was going to rise to the top.
40:27And Aleem did enough to show that difference.
40:31Here we go.
40:32He breaks the body.
40:37A lot of long punches.
40:39Not that many short shots.
40:41Except for Aleem's body work.
40:44Mostly in the beginning of the fight.
40:46And then I thought he did come alive in 7 and 8.
40:48He started getting back to it.
40:49But a very worthy fight.
40:52There you see evidence of why that right eye of Garcia's was opened up.
40:58Courtesy of Aleem's left hand.
41:00He really got it going toward the end.
41:03And that's what the hemorrhaging is about.
41:09Rae Salim having a conversation with his trainer, Salman Malik.
41:12Their third fight together.
41:14Started boxing at age 14.
41:16He was a Taekwondo black belt at age 13.
41:19But the passion for this sport is what made him want to become a boxer.
41:24And speaking of passion, here is Ralph Vellis Jr.
41:28With the official decision.
41:30Ladies and gentlemen, after 10 rounds of action, we go to the judges' scorecards.
41:36Judge Steve Weisfeld scored the contest 98-92.
41:39David Sutherland, 97-93.
41:42And Chris Migliore, 99-91.
41:45All for your winner by unanimous decision.
41:50Rae Salim, Rae Salim, who continues to show that he is world title shot ready.
42:06And we'll see what the future holds for this.
