00:00Since the changeover in Bangladesh last year in July-August, we find there is changes in
00:08the media sector and we also find some of the editors were removed from the positions
00:21of the newspaper and televisions and some new people have joined there and those process
00:33of joining is not very transparent.
00:37And you understand that because of the lack of transparency, because of lack of democratic
00:44process or lack of formal procedure to select those key positions in the media is being
00:55challenged and being questioned.
01:00So this is one of the situations that we find in Bangladesh.
01:08And also we find there is a silent crisis in the media.
01:20That is because the media is writing and reporting matters.
01:28But many of our editors, many of our key people in the media, they are not facing or feeling
01:41safe to write and express their opinion.
01:45And they are a bit shaky to express their opinion in full length.
01:53That means although we don't have that much clear indication to the media, but there is
02:06a fair tactics is there, where because of that fair tactics, the media is a bit conservative
02:19and they are not being able to write what they think at all.
02:26So that is a hurdle to the media situation in Bangladesh.
02:32And we understand some people were under prison, some people were arrested, some key editors
02:41of the newspaper also arrested.
02:44So those are the stumble blocks in the freedom of exercise of the press, I think.
