00:00Carrius Johnson presents Jason's Lyric Live!
00:05Produced by Jay Carrius Johnson, the stage production of the cult classic film Jason Lyrics is now out.
00:17The original version premiered in 1994 and the original role of lyrics was played by Jada Pinkett.
00:24If you have a film that speaks to the traditional black experience, then it's a broad audience.
00:30If it's a niche, a little group, then it's not going to speak to everyone, right?
00:36And then if everyone resonates with the story already as a film, then what happens when you do the play, it's almost like Rocky Horror Picture Show, right?
00:51They're giving you your line.
00:53Yes. Yes. Yes.
00:55Welcome home, John.
00:57You do know I can have you arrested for stalking me, right?
01:01I'm not stalking. I'm protecting you.
01:02I'll say you look good, boy.
01:04Jason, there is class.
01:05You're lost, man, though.
01:06I think it's important.
01:07The beauty of the story itself is that we have circumstances in a particular sector of black life that we have to overcome.
01:23And most of us think that if I get rich, then that's the solution, the answer to this poverty that I was raised in, right?
01:37And Lyric is teaching Jason, even though it's Jason's story, but Lyric is teaching Jason that it's the spirit in you, it's the belief, it's the imagination that allows you to overcome this stuff.
01:56It's not just about leaving geographically, it's about leaving in your identity, leaving in your spirit, leaving in your mind.
02:06So I think that's why it resonates so much.
02:10The player also stars Trench, who was in the original film, as well as R&B star Kay Michelle and Tyreen Turner, Lawrence Hilton Jacobs and Victoria Royals.
