00:00The Chibi News Daily Reflection
00:04Hi, I'm Brenda from St Francis Parish Church.
00:11In John's Gospel, we hear after Jesus' crucifixion,
00:15Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb.
00:21She stood weeping outside and bent to look into the tomb.
00:25Mary saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been.
00:31They said, Why are you weeping?
00:33And she said, They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.
00:40Mary turned and saw Jesus standing there.
00:43Jesus said to her, Mary, and she replied in Hebrew, Rabbuni, which means teacher.
00:50Jesus sent her to announce to the disciples,
00:53I have seen the Lord.
00:56And she told them the things he had said to her.
00:59The word apostle means one who is sent.
01:03A woman, Mary Magdalene, became the first apostle,
01:08the first to meet Jesus by the tomb after his resurrection,
01:12then sent to share the good news with the disciples.
01:16This earned her the name, the apostle to the apostles.
01:20What does this mean for people today?
01:24Jesus allowed women to sit at his feet as disciples,
01:28and we hear Mary Magdalene was chosen by Jesus as the first apostle.
01:34This means for all women, Jesus counted us equally with men.
01:38For ordained women who wear the collar,
01:42we can be confident of our place at the front of church,
01:46a place denied by some,
01:49but a place affirmed by Jesus himself,
01:52to share with men,
01:54humbly,
01:55yet equally in God's mission on earth.
01:58Amen.
01:59Amen.
