00:00Then, now, forever, together.
00:30You take life and you grab it by the throat, and you make it give you everything you want, just
00:41in case you've forgotten.
00:47I am the f***ing game, and I am that damn good.
00:56This is the king of tanks, the cerebral assassin, the game, Triple H.
01:24What happens here becomes legendary.
01:31We welcome you live to King of the Ring.
01:38King of the Ring gives someone credibility or says to the viewer, that's a top guy.
01:45And so this was Hunter's journey to that happening.
01:52I was the question of a blue blood, pompous, arrogant guy that slowly becomes something different.
01:58You have to be in the ring multiple times on the same day.
02:05That's a very physically challenging task, but also mentally.
02:09And this is what it's all about, the finals here for the King of the Ring.
02:16I am the one.
02:18King of the Ring 1997 was really significant because Hunter grew in legend in WWE.
02:24That was a thrill to pedigree.
02:31King of the Ring was a cool moment for me.
02:34It helped put me at a different level.
02:36What I did was take my destiny into my hands.
02:40He was more than ready.
02:42He took the reins and he went with it.
02:45I don't think he's looked back since.
02:52The Rock, the Intercontinental Champion and Triple H to compete in a ladder match.
03:01The Intercontinental title was a title that was very, very important to the both of us, to me and Hunter.
03:08Both of us wanted that belt.
03:09Both of us wanted that spot.
03:11Well, two of the great young athletes who are going to strike their stuff here.
03:16Here you have The Rock, he wants to be the guy.
03:19You got Triple H, he wants to be the guy.
03:21Is it when you're in the ring with that guy?
03:23Hell yeah.
03:24You go at it.
03:25I don't think I've ever seen any more intense competition.
03:29Every time that they were in the ring together, it just felt like magic.
03:32A match like their ladder match elevates both superstars.
03:37I mean, you knew they were going to be something special in WWE.
03:40Like, they just were.
03:41Triple H, can he find it?
03:43Yes!
03:44He did it!
03:45He did it!
03:46Triple H did it!
03:47It was our big moment.
03:48Listen to this crowd!
03:49That certainly was one of the most outstanding ladder matches.
03:53Triple H became Intercontinental Champion.
03:54It was a great match.
03:55I was very proud of it.
03:57We are just moments away when what could be the most memorable title match.
04:13A street fight hitting Cactus Jack against the champion, Triple H.
04:19We built this match up to be something incredibly special.
04:25Going at it with Foley in that kind of street fight was a big deal.
04:30There were certain things that Triple H needed to accomplish in order to solidify himself.
04:37And Mick Foley was the perfect opponent for him.
04:40Mick Foley could bring the fight to Triple H, and Triple H is going to have to survive that fight.
04:45Whether to put their bodies through this is nothing sort of extraordinary.
04:49Both men brutalized each other.
04:53It was shocking.
04:56Oh, my God!
04:57There's Thumbpacks!
04:58There's hundreds!
04:59There's thousands of Thumbpacks!
05:04Oh, my God!
05:06Cactus Jack is a human pin prison!
05:10Pedigree on the Thumbpacks!
05:12Get him!
05:15My God!
05:16My God!
05:17My God is over!
05:18My God is over!
05:19I haven't received the actions like that, and that has a lot to do with the guy I'm in the ring with.
05:24That was a match that sort of put me on the map as being tough enough to survive at the upper echelon of WWE.
05:31What a moment that was.
05:33To look back years later, it's overwhelming.
05:37Triple H was still in the thriving part of his career.
05:45He ripped his quad off of the bone.
05:49Like, oh, my God.
05:51This is brutal.
05:52He went through a difficult time.
05:54Doctors were telling him no one had ever returned to athletic competition after an injury like that, after tearing your quad.
06:02He rehabbed hard.
06:03He trained hard.
06:04And his mind said the whole time, I'm gonna be better than I was before.
06:08It's Madison Square Garden with the most passionate WWE fans in the whole entire world.
06:13And Triple H got to make his comeback there.
06:16They gave him quite an ovation.
06:31It has been eight long months!
06:34The game has returned!
06:37The garden came unglued.
06:42Just in case you've forgotten, I am the game!
06:50It was one of the most emotional crowd responses I have ever heard.
06:56Today, what's the beginning of a new era?
07:21When we walked through that curtain, it felt like the energy changed.
07:24What you see in this ring before you is the greatest example of evolution you will ever see.
07:30Evolution was one of the great factions.
07:33Because you had the guy who'd been there and done it all in Ric Flair.
07:37You had the guy who was in the process of being there and doing it all in Triple H.
07:42And two younger, promising talents.
07:45Randy Orton.
07:47The man has every gift that a man can be given.
07:52Triple H wanted me to be one of the guys and it was like, oh my God, this is great.
07:57Dave Bautista, unbridled destruction!
08:02Randy and I are very giddy about the idea of us being paired with him.
08:07Triple H is an alpha and he's a leader, so he's definitely someone you want to have on your side.
08:14They had it all going for them.
08:16Money.
08:17Nice cars.
08:18Success.
08:19If you don't have what it takes, then evolution will leave you behind.
08:25Hands down, evolution is the most important thing that I've done.
08:30There's something really special about that group.
08:33There's only one superstar great enough to have the world famous motorhead play your entrance.
08:42He tried to play the game.
08:44And that's the game.
08:46Triple H is a wizard when it comes to entrances.
08:50There's been so many great ones.
08:52The pomp and circumstances, making it big, is what separates him from a lot of people.
08:58Hunter is always very involved in his entrances.
09:02He has a flair for the dramatic, for the presentation.
09:10Sometimes it is the simple things, like spitting water, that people remember.
09:15You just go back to his entrances at Mania.
09:18At Mania, a lot of thought goes into that.
09:25To be there at WrestleMania, especially with your husband, is pretty much the coolest thing that there is.
09:32WrestleMania, it's time to play the game.
09:37WrestleMania, it's time to play the game.
09:45He is the king of kings!
09:49Triple H!
10:02Are you ready?
10:17No!
10:18I said, are you ready?
10:23Break it down!
10:25DX was the heartbeat of the Attitude Era.
10:29Discretion is advised, but will be completely ignored.
10:37They were pop culture.
10:38Even if you didn't know WWE, you knew what this meant.
10:42They were doing some off-the-wall, crazy fly about to see their pants stuff.
10:46D-Generation X invades WCW tonight!
10:51DX, DX, DX!
10:54It was just the right thing for that time period.
10:57It was perfect.
10:59The DX Triple H, he's just gonna tell a very inappropriate joke.
11:02You know?
11:03That's just the way he operates.
11:05Shawn and I both got jumbo weenies!
11:08Heaven forbid you give him any valuable material.
11:13This past week, the Generation X was different.
11:17This past week, the Generation X completed a full set.
11:20He was one of the funniest people I know.
11:23We traveled up and down the roads together, and he made me laugh every stretch of the way.
11:28And if you're not down with that, then we've got two words for ya!
11:33Here we go.
11:43Triple H versus The Undertaker.
11:46Shawn Michaels, the special referee.
11:48End of an era.
11:49Inside, held in a cell.
11:52It was like the last two toughest guys in the prison yard from a bygone generation.
12:01When these two hooked up, everybody in the yard's watching it.
12:05They were just absolutely blistering one another with the chairs and the steps.
12:11To me, that story had everything.
12:14Shawn Michaels, Mr. WrestleMania.
12:16Here's the guy, Undertaker, who he couldn't beat at WrestleMania.
12:19Here's his best friend, Triple H.
12:20Now he's the ref.
12:21He has to stay impartial.
12:22Look at this!
12:23Between 10 years, we've got a pedigree!
12:26They've done it!
12:27Oh, they haven't done it!
12:29It's not over!
12:30Storytelling at its finest.
12:33To see it all happen, it was just amazing.
12:37That match, that rivalry, is years of experience doing what they do best.
12:47I knew that we had just finished something that was going to be so special that would last
12:52through the annals of time.
12:54The era has ended, and what a way to go.
12:59Standing up there with those two guys who I had the utmost respect for,
13:04it's probably one of the most special moments of my career.
