00:01:03This Sunday live at Backlash, it will be the final encounter for the World Heavyweight Championship triple threat.
00:01:10The World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Benoit, takes on the Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels, and our special guest here today, the
00:01:17game, Triple H.
00:01:18Triple H, welcome here to Bite This.
00:01:19Look at the screen.
00:01:21Golf punt.
00:01:22That's pretty good.
00:01:23Not bad lighting here either.
00:01:24No, no, look at that.
00:01:26That's not bad.
00:01:27Jesus.
00:01:27Dr. Tom, welcome back to Bite This.
00:01:29Hey, thank you very much.
00:01:30Welcome, Triple H.
00:01:31Thanks, Dr. Tom.
00:01:32Anytime.
00:01:33Feel free to knock the living hell out of Josh anytime you want.
00:01:36I think the phone's already blowing up.
00:01:37Give us a call, 888-LIVE-WW.
00:01:39We've got a great show here for you all.
00:01:41Droz will be calling in, giving us his picks on Backlash.
00:01:44Randy Orton will be calling in, and of course we have the game, Triple H.
00:01:48Are you prepared for Sunday?
00:01:49Final encounter, triple threat, what's going to go down?
00:01:51No, Josh.
00:01:52Actually, I've not prepared at all.
00:01:54You know, I've been eating Twinkies and just laying around on the couch, and I'm pretty
00:01:58much going to try to go out and stink the joint out this Sunday on, you know, at Backlash.
00:02:04We have pizza here if you want some.
00:02:06Yeah, no, that's good.
00:02:07I'm actually kind of full right now.
00:02:08I just ate some hot dogs.
00:02:09Yeah, very good.
00:02:10You know, let me ask you a question about this final encounter coming up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
00:02:16Obviously, Chris Benoit has been said to have the hometown advantage.
00:02:20It's nothing, I think, new to you to go in against somebody who might claim to have an
00:02:25advantage, but this Sunday in Edmonton, it seems like you're going to have to prove it
00:02:30all over again, and I don't want to say this about Shawn Michaels as well, but we know all
00:02:35the history of Canadian fans and Shawn Michaels.
00:02:38Well, listen, somebody's always got the advantage when they're going in the ring against me, right?
00:02:42Hey, Phil, shut up in the other room.
00:02:43I can hear you talking.
00:02:46Jeez, trying to talk in here.
00:02:48You know, somebody's always got the advantage going in against me in the ring.
00:02:52You know, that's what they're always saying, but somehow I always come out on top, right?
00:02:56Although I do have to admit this time, I just heard earlier today that it is snowing in
00:03:00Edmonton, and as if I didn't like going to Canada enough already, now it's snowing there,
00:03:05so I'm really not looking forward to going, but it's an opportunity to get the title back,
00:03:11and I'll come back to the U.S. with it where it's warmer.
00:03:13Any chance of another Montreal incident happening in Edmonton this week?
00:03:20Well, you know, it just depends on the Canadian-ism of the people that are in the ring.
00:03:26You know, if somebody wants to go too Canadian, then, you know, you do what you've got to do.
00:03:32Let's go to the phones now, and here can you get his...
00:03:35Why don't we go to the phones?
00:03:36All right.
00:03:36Here with his two cents is Droz.
00:03:37What's up, Droz?
00:03:38What's up, guys?
00:03:39How's it going?
00:03:40Good, good, good.
00:03:41Droz, listen, we want to get your picks for backlash, and, you know, every pay-per-view
00:03:45you seem to pick against our special guest here today.
00:03:48That's Triple H.
00:03:49Are you going to pick against him this Sunday?
00:03:51Final honor?
00:03:52You know what?
00:03:53I'm not really sure, even though Benoit's heading to his hometown and we have snow, you
00:03:58know, I'm not sure.
00:04:00I'm still up in the air on that one.
00:04:02I have to admit, I'm not sure if I'm going to go with Benoit this week, but...
00:04:06You know, it's a tough call when you've got a technical wrestler like Benoit, you've got
00:04:11an icon like Sean, and you've got the best that there is in there.
00:04:14You know, it's a tough call.
00:04:15Who do you pick, right?
00:04:16It's very true.
00:04:17The only thing is, he's in his hometown, but then again, you know, like you said, with
00:04:22you three guys, you know, the three superstars, it's a hard pick.
00:04:26You know, Benoit has the belt, but, you know, can he hold on to it?
00:04:29So, I'm going to have to leave that up until tomorrow when I write him, figure out my pick.
00:04:33There you go.
00:04:34My pick is Triple H.
00:04:36Go figure.
00:04:38Before I even came in here, that was my pick.
00:04:39Before I hit him again.
00:04:41Right.
00:04:42One of our guests later will be Randy Orton.
00:04:44And he takes on Mick Foley, no holds barred, for the Intercontinental title.
00:04:48Dross, who are you going with in that one?
00:04:49Oh, man.
00:04:50Well, let me just stop you right there, Josh.
00:04:51I think it's not going to be Mick Foley Randy's going to be facing.
00:04:55Cactus Jack.
00:04:56Yeah, Dross, how are you doing this week?
00:04:57I'm hanging, Doc.
00:04:58How are you doing?
00:04:59Outstanding.
00:04:59Glad to be back.
00:05:00But Josh made a little technical mistake there.
00:05:03Randy will be facing Cactus Jack this Sunday for the Intercontinental Championship.
00:05:08And I've got to get your thoughts on this, because Mick and Cactus have really
00:05:13turned out to be two different people, it seems.
00:05:15Oh, you know what?
00:05:16I think he'd be much better off, as we saw before, with him wrestling Mick.
00:05:21But Cactus Jack, I mean, I don't see Randy coming out of this unscathed.
00:05:27I don't know, though.
00:05:28You know, with this type of match, I mean, he's definitely going to be bloody,
00:05:33battered, and bruised.
00:05:34But I'm definitely going to go with Cactus.
00:05:37But Randy's going to give him a run for his money.
00:05:39I mean, you know, this, I think, is going to be a whole new element for him.
00:05:42I mean, well, I guess it wouldn't be for anybody going against Cactus in this type of match.
00:05:46It's totally different, having been there before.
00:05:49You know, going up against Mick Foley is kind of like wrestling a big Muppet.
00:05:52You know, Mick Foley's a little bit chubbier, in case anybody hasn't noticed, than Cactus
00:05:58Jack is.
00:05:59You know, and it's kind of like wrestling Fozzie Bear from the Muppets.
00:06:05Wrestling Cactus Jack is a whole lot different.
00:06:07Cactus Jack is way more svelte.
00:06:09He's a lot trimmer in through the middle and in the behind area.
00:06:12And he has a penchant for using large, pointy, metallic objects, which is never good.
00:06:19But you've got to understand something, Randy Orton is a consummate athlete.
00:06:24He's one of the top pros in this business.
00:06:26And Randy Orton is going to drop Mick Foley, Cactus Jack, Dude Love, Mankind, right on top
00:06:33of his nappy-haired head and get the one, two, three.
00:06:37He's going to walk out of the ring the Intercontinental Champion and one of the top guys in evolution.
00:06:42That's just the way it is.
00:06:43For somebody who's actually had his hands on Mick's Barbie, the barbed wire.
00:06:50Yeah, I never actually called it Barbie at the time that I was fondling it.
00:06:54Yeah, exactly.
00:06:55Is there any bit of advice you want to give Randy on air about how to avoid being back in
00:07:00the head?
00:07:00You can make me hold your bet, but you can't make me call it cute little names.
00:07:03Thank you very much.
00:07:04My friend.
00:07:05Okay, good.
00:07:05Yes.
00:07:06Well, Draz, yeah, go ahead.
00:07:07My advice to Randy Orton would be don't get hit with the barbed wire.
00:07:11Right.
00:07:12You know, avoid getting hit in the head with the barbed wire at all costs.
00:07:15That would be my best advice.
00:07:17That's good advice.
00:07:18Yeah.
00:07:19That's why I'm the game, Jack.
00:07:20Hey, I agree.
00:07:21Very good.
00:07:22That's great advice.
00:07:23Also, another match at Backlash.
00:07:24Like you know.
00:07:25Chris Jericho takes on Christian and Trish Stratus.
00:07:28Draz, your thoughts on this one, the handicap match?
00:07:31Well, I'm going to go with Jericho on this one, but you know, as we see, he is facing
00:07:37the creepy little bastard and also the doggie.
00:07:41But I'm hoping for Jericho to pull this one out, but I'm looking forward to see what happens
00:07:48with Trish and Jericho once they're together in the ring.
00:07:51And I'd like to see her smacked around a little bit in different areas, but I'd like to see
00:07:56Jericho come out on top of here.
00:07:58Very cool.
00:07:59Do you have time on or anything to add to this match?
00:08:00No, I really don't.
00:08:01I think Chris Jericho is going to have his hands full.
00:08:03I don't know about you, but...
00:08:05I think Jericho will have his hands full, but I really think the bottom line is Christian
00:08:10will have his hands full.
00:08:11You know what I'm saying?
00:08:11Oh, thank you very much.
00:08:12And that's really all that matters.
00:08:14Right.
00:08:15All right, Josh, we're going to let the fans read the rest of your picks on WWE.com.
00:08:19That'll be up tomorrow, correct?
00:08:20Yes, it will.
00:08:21Hold on one second.
00:08:22There's an email on here that wants me to kick you, but this is a small space, so I'm just
00:08:26going to punch you.
00:08:27There you go.
00:08:27Very nice.
00:08:28Very cool.
00:08:28It was great to have William here last week.
00:08:29Hey, Droz, very good to hear from you again, and happy belated birthday, and...
00:08:34Happy birthday, Droz.
00:08:35Thank you, guys.
00:08:36Stay healthy.
00:08:37All right, definitely one.
00:08:38Hey, Hunter, best of luck, man.
00:08:39You take care out there.
00:08:40Thanks, buddy.
00:08:40Take care of yourself, man.
00:08:41All right, guys.
00:08:42Be good.
00:08:43All right.
00:08:43See you, Josh.
00:08:43If I could, just real quick, because I'm going to punch him again.
00:08:46Yeah, please.
00:08:47No, no, that's okay.
00:08:47We'll wait.
00:08:49There's another match on here that I'm sure you'll be watching, as you will probably the
00:08:53entire card, but Shelton Benjamin taking on Ric Flair.
00:08:57Yeah.
00:08:58Give us a little of your insight about Shelton Benjamin, if you will.
00:09:03Shelton Benjamin owns a pinfall victory over Triple H.
00:09:05Oh, there you go.
00:09:05One more punch for you there, kid.
00:09:08Shelton Benjamin's playing like this big craps game, right?
00:09:11He keeps rolling the dice, and he keeps coming up a winner, but his luck's about to run out.
00:09:16He's going up against a 16-time world champion, the greatest wrestler in the history of our
00:09:21business, the nature boy, Ric Flair.
00:09:24His luck is about to run out.
00:09:26Shelton Benjamin has been on this roller coaster ride, headed to the top of the mountain,
00:09:31and he's about to come crashing down off the other side.
00:09:36Yeah, I don't think there's anything else you could add to that.
00:09:39Nope, it all goes down Sunday at Backlash, and now we have a surprise call, as we sometimes
00:09:45do here on Bite This.
00:09:47My arm's going to be sore when I get home.
00:09:48Maybe you'll have a delta.
00:09:51Now calling up here, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome William Riegel.
00:09:55Mr. Riegel.
00:09:56Hello.
00:09:57William.
00:09:57Hello.
00:09:58How are you, my good friend?
00:10:00Good.
00:10:00How are you?
00:10:01I'm good.
00:10:02Mr. Riegel, I just want to mention, this is Dr. Tom, by the way.
00:10:04I want to mention that when you were asked how you were a few weeks ago, and you said
00:10:08lower than a whore's drawers, I thought that was a very, very apt description.
00:10:12Actually, I said that more ups and downs than a whore's drawers.
00:10:14Oh, yeah, ups and downs than a whore's drawers.
00:10:17Yes.
00:10:17Yeah.
00:10:18Who am I to take it from a window licker like Eugene?
00:10:22Yeah, I believe that's got me in some trouble in England.
00:10:24Is that correct?
00:10:26Who cares?
00:10:27Oh, exactly.
00:10:28Yeah.
00:10:28Trouble's our middle name, right?
00:10:30Yes.
00:10:30Sure.
00:10:30What kind of trouble can you get into England?
00:10:32The cops don't even have guns.
00:10:33Right.
00:10:35Well, you're right.
00:10:38How are you doing physically these days?
00:10:40Wonderful.
00:10:41Yeah?
00:10:41Yes.
00:10:42Fit as a butcher's dog.
00:10:44Mr. Riegel, how does it feel to be back?
00:10:46I'm sorry?
00:10:47How does it feel to be back?
00:10:48Who on earth are you?
00:10:49It's me, Josh.
00:10:51Oh, Josh.
00:10:51Hello, Josh.
00:10:52How are you, sir?
00:10:53Like you said, who in the hell are you?
00:10:56It feels, it's wonderful to be quite honest with you.
00:10:59Absolutely great.
00:11:00Just feels like, actually, it feels like I haven't been away at all.
00:11:03It's, when I visited some shows in the last year, it's been very strange.
00:11:08I feel a bit out of place, but when I started back, it's just like I haven't been away.
00:11:12It's very nice.
00:11:13Well, I gotta say, it's great to have you back just from a, you know, standpoint of all the guys.
00:11:20You know, you're an important part to the locker room, and there's been a massive hole on Raw since you've
00:11:26been gone,
00:11:26and who better than William Riegel than to plug that hole?
00:11:29Well, thank you.
00:11:30I am very well, you know, quite known for plugging up holes.
00:11:33Yes.
00:11:34Yes.
00:11:35We heard that, as a matter of fact.
00:11:37We just watched the Benoit-William Riegel, or actually Stephen Riegel match from the Pillman 2000,
00:11:45and Benoit echoed the same sentiments about having you back,
00:11:49and now it's come full circle once again.
00:11:51But you're in a different capacity this time.
00:11:54You happen to be alongside Eugene.
00:11:57Yes.
00:11:58How do you feel about that?
00:12:00I was a little perturbed to start with, but I think it's going to be wonderful with the boy, you
00:12:07know.
00:12:07I mean, I can't say he's a quick learner, but we'll get there eventually.
00:12:13Okay, and Mr. Riegel, this Sunday, of course, Triple H is in the final encounter of the Triple Threat Match
00:12:17for the World Heavyweight Championship.
00:12:19Yes.
00:12:19Is it true that you consider Triple H one of your friends in this business?
00:12:23One of the few, yes.
00:12:24One of the only ones, to be honest with you.
00:12:26Now, wait a minute.
00:12:27Come on.
00:12:27Well, one of the really, real few friends.
00:12:33In fact, the only person when I was off that called me every week,
00:12:39and most people that I've known for some of them 20 years never once called or came round.
00:12:45He was the only person that called me every week.
00:12:48Well, and, you know, vice versa.
00:12:51When I was out with my quad, Riegel was one of the few guys that called me all the time
00:12:55and actually came to Birmingham and hung out with me now and then,
00:12:58and it's something I'll never forget.
00:13:01Well, you know, you think you have lots of friends in this business,
00:13:05and you do have friends, but actually close companions, you only ever make a few.
00:13:10I've got a few.
00:13:11And, you know, H is one of them, and Dave Taylor and a few others,
00:13:17but that's about it.
00:13:18You don't make as many friends as you think.
00:13:20You soon find out when you're not there.
00:13:22You make a lot of acquaintances, not a lot of friends.
00:13:24Yes, yes.
00:13:26Well, let's go to the phones now.
00:13:27This is Beth calling from Santa, Anta, California.
00:13:30Beth, you're on the phone with William Riegel, and Triple H is live in the studio.
00:13:33Good afternoon, gentlemen.
00:13:34How are you?
00:13:35Great.
00:13:35How are you?
00:13:36I'm doing fine.
00:13:38Mr. William Riegel, I wanted to say thank you so much for coming back.
00:13:42And, Hunter, can you do me a favor, sweetheart?
00:13:44What's that?
00:13:44Can you flex those big muscles for me, baby?
00:13:47Sure.
00:13:47I thought you were going to ask me to punch Josh.
00:13:49I am going to ask you a question.
00:13:51I was going to say bend over, but no.
00:13:53Bend over?
00:13:54What the hell are you talking about?
00:13:57Look, I want to punch Josh.
00:13:59How's that?
00:14:00Look at that.
00:14:01Woo-hoo!
00:14:02Look at that, huh?
00:14:03Look at this.
00:14:04Like an onion, to peel that back, make a man cry.
00:14:06Oh, well, hello there.
00:14:11Very nice.
00:14:11Okay, Beth, is that all you needed?
00:14:14Okay, it's 1 o'clock in California, so she's passed out.
00:14:17Yeah.
00:14:17So it's happy hour.
00:14:20Mr. Regal, we hear that you, as well, are in the best shape of your life right now.
00:14:23Is that true?
00:14:24I think so, yeah.
00:14:25I truly feel that way, yeah.
00:14:26I mean, today I've done that.
00:14:28I saw him in the shower the other day after the show.
00:14:30I'd say he is.
00:14:32Well, yes, thank you.
00:14:33It's not that big, but you wouldn't like any nose for a wart.
00:14:37How are your reptiles doing, Mr. Regal?
00:14:39They're doing very well.
00:14:41Good.
00:14:42Speaking of losers.
00:14:42I've had a little bit of time with them today.
00:14:44I've spent about an hour with them today, and they're wonderful.
00:14:47And I can say, I feel absolutely fit as a fiddle.
00:14:51I've just done a lot of hindu squats and hill sprints today, and I feel great.
00:14:55You know, I'm really working on the conditioning training, and that seems to suit me better than
00:15:00anything else, and I feel real good doing it.
00:15:03What are the chances of you possibly getting back in the ring as an active competitor anytime soon?
00:15:09I believe after the 4th of May I'm allowed to.
00:15:12I've been told to get back in the ring and train, but after the 4th of May I've got to
00:15:16have one more test
00:15:17just because they took me off all these medications that I was on, and they just want to make sure
00:15:22that there's been no, you know, medications do a lot of damage as well as good,
00:15:27and make sure there's been no problems coming off them, which I haven't felt any problems,
00:15:31and there doesn't seem to be any, so after the 4th of May I can do whether I'm needed to
00:15:35or not, you know.
00:15:37And are you ready to be back on the road full-time?
00:15:40I already am, and yes.
00:15:42Whether he's ready or not, he already is.
00:15:44Yeah, I mean, I've just had a year off, you know.
00:15:46I mean, I've worked less than Father Christmas this year, you know, so it's been nice to be back again.
00:15:51Well, I think it's going to benefit not only you and, as Triple H said earlier, the raw locker room,
00:15:56but I think having you by Eugene's side is going to really help elevate his game, so to speak,
00:16:04and add a new dimension to you on the same side.
00:16:08Well, you see, the thing that people haven't figured out about Eugene yet,
00:16:13although he doesn't seem, you know, the full shilling, he's very good at learning certain things,
00:16:18and so I think as soon as I get in the ring with him and start really hammering it home,
00:16:22I'm sure he'll become a wonderful wrestler.
00:16:25You know, you can't hold a conversation with Paul, but I think he'll be a great wrestler.
00:16:29Well, I think he will too, and, you know, I want to make a point off,
00:16:32you mentioned the locker room with William Regal coming back.
00:16:35If some of the younger guys are smart, you know, William Regal is one of the guys
00:16:40that has the most experience of anybody in that locker room,
00:16:43and he's a great technician and a great teacher,
00:16:46and some of those guys should take advantage of that
00:16:49and, you know, go to William Regal and ask him to watch your matches
00:16:52and ask him for help because he's great at what he does.
00:16:57Well, obviously, I think that's an issue we can talk about while we have you on the phone
00:17:02is about the younger guys coming up today and the way the business has changed,
00:17:06the way the style has changed.
00:17:07We've seen that with, of course, the matches that you and Shawn Michaels had a couple months back,
00:17:13the match you and Shelton Benjamin had, they've become wrestling matches.
00:17:17And that's something that you, Mr. Regal, are very familiar with
00:17:21and can give back to the young guys in the locker room,
00:17:26and this is what I truly believe that the business is going to come back to.
00:17:30Both of you guys, if you want to comment on that.
00:17:33How far, I mean, do you see the change happening even quicker than you thought?
00:17:38Well, I'm really glad that it's happened,
00:17:40and I'm glad that it's going, you know, to say full circle again,
00:17:45but it will.
00:17:46Wrestling, good wrestling has never gone out of fashion.
00:17:50It's just that there's not many people bothered to learn it or to do it.
00:17:54And when you've got great wrestlers, you know,
00:17:56that's what makes this business, you know, the special thing that it is.
00:18:01That's what I want.
00:18:01When I'm watching wrestling, that's what I want to watch.
00:18:04You know, I'm not interested in people who don't learn how to wrestle
00:18:08because it just doesn't do it for me.
00:18:10You can be the greatest, you know,
00:18:15you have to be a good wrestler whether you're the greatest brawler or whatever.
00:18:18All the real top guys in this business have always been able to wrestle.
00:18:23You know, the ones that I like anyway.
00:18:25So, you know, Ric Flair and the Harley races and the Jack Briscoes
00:18:30and the guys in England that I go, you know, idolizing,
00:18:34they're all great wrestlers, and that's, you know,
00:18:37and Triple H is, you know, the real deal when it comes to that.
00:18:43You know, I mean, we trained together a long time ago,
00:18:46and, you know, he understands all that,
00:18:48and that's what makes him so good.
00:18:51That's what makes Shawn Michaels so good.
00:18:53That's what makes Eddie Guerrero so good.
00:18:54That's what made Chris Benoit so good because they've all taken the time to learn how to wrestle.
00:19:00You know, it's the major part of our business is learning how to wrestle, you know,
00:19:05and if you can't, you're only going to go so far.
00:19:08And if you're not willing to learn, and that's a shame that there's a lot of people
00:19:12that just don't seem to be rather interested in learning that,
00:19:15and I don't understand why it seems to be a lot of the newer guys, the younger guys,
00:19:20they all come up and they're all willing to learn that the last few years,
00:19:24they all really want to learn how to wrestle,
00:19:26but there's still a lot that could learn from that.
00:19:29And hopefully they'll take the hint and start learning some more.
00:19:34Yeah, no doubt about it.
00:19:36You want to jump on the phones again here, and we have Blake from Louisiana.
00:19:40Blake, go ahead.
00:19:42Hey, how's it going, guys?
00:19:44I wanted to know how your wrestling style had changed from your days of wrestling back
00:19:52when you used to wrestle in England and the circus and everything.
00:19:55Like, how did you have to evolve your style going into, like, the WCW and WWE
00:19:59to fit it to that style of wrestling?
00:20:01Well, I had to...
00:20:03You know, it takes two to tangle in that ring, you know what I mean?
00:20:06And you can't just go in there and have one guy have, you know,
00:20:13a ton of experience and a ton of knowledge and have the other guy not know anything.
00:20:17It's very difficult to do, and I think that's where...
00:20:21where it gets lost in the shuffle.
00:20:22But hopefully now we're back on track of getting guys to understand
00:20:26what's important in this business.
00:20:27And what's important in this business is not, you know, fancy catchphrases
00:20:32and, you know, having 20-inch arms.
00:20:35It's learning how to wrestle.
00:20:37Let me ask you something on that.
00:20:39Do you feel, since you've been out on the road and doing live events as well,
00:20:43do the fans react the way you expect them to react to good, solid wrestling?
00:20:48I agree with you guys that good, solid wrestling can be entertaining
00:20:53and well worth watching.
00:20:55Are you finding that same reaction when you go out on the road?
00:20:57Without a doubt.
00:20:58I think that, you know, the...
00:21:01You know, it's been the last year or so that we've been starting to go back
00:21:04to emphasizing wrestling again,
00:21:06and that's come from the office, but it's also come from the wrestlers too.
00:21:11And as we've gone back, I think the fans are getting more and more into it.
00:21:15I think they're more and more excited by it.
00:21:18Yeah, you know, you're going to do certain stunts here or there to, you know,
00:21:22to shock people or whatever, but the main focus, what it says in the marquee is wrestling.
00:21:26And I think that's always...
00:21:27There is nothing like sitting down in front of a good wrestling match for 20 minutes
00:21:33and getting lost in that story, you know what I mean?
00:21:35And that's what made me become a wrestler.
00:21:38That's what made guys like William Regal become wrestlers.
00:21:41That's what made guys like, you know, Benoit and Shawn Michaels and all of us become wrestlers.
00:21:46And that's what's going to make the fans of today become excited in our project.
00:21:50Yeah, and it's not just, you know, we have to go a step further.
00:21:55And it's not just wrestling, you know.
00:21:58Going to watch a wrestling match and somebody sticking an armbar on or...
00:22:04It's the quality of the detail of the wrestling that makes people interested in it.
00:22:10You know what I mean?
00:22:10A lot of people think they can mat wrestle, but they can do two or three things.
00:22:14It's the detail of how they put the holds on.
00:22:17It's the detail of how they work that, you know, the holds.
00:22:20And that's what keeps people interested.
00:22:23And like I say, I slipped into a rut because I sort of...
00:22:28Instead of dragging people up to my standard, I sort of work to a certain level.
00:22:32And that's no knocking anybody.
00:22:34But I've been a year off.
00:22:35I've sat and watched and I've seen that I've done that.
00:22:38But when I was in WCW, up until last, you know, I sort of lost myself and my problems.
00:22:43That was what I did.
00:22:44I made everybody come up to my standard the same as Triple H makes people come up to his standard.
00:22:50Or Chris Benoit makes everybody come up to his standard.
00:22:53And that's the thing is keeping that mindset and making, you know, the detail of everything and the way it's
00:23:01presented to the people.
00:23:02Then it's interesting if it's just, you know, lining a hole for 20 minutes.
00:23:06That's not going to do anything for anybody.
00:23:08But you've got to have people that are willing to learn how to get out of that hold and how
00:23:12to react to certain, you know, predicaments in the ring.
00:23:16That's what makes it interesting.
00:23:17And if they don't know that and they're not willing to learn that, if the style continues the way it's
00:23:22going,
00:23:23then definitely those people will get lost in the shuffle.
00:23:26One of the things that I liked about the Unscripted book is you talked about you watched tapes from the
00:23:3260s, 70s, and 80s.
00:23:35This is something that we talk about in the developmental system as well, watching some of the old tapes,
00:23:39not necessarily because you want to duplicate everything that was done.
00:23:44Why don't you explain what you get out of when you watch those old tapes of psychology
00:23:50or just watching how somebody grabbed an arm or walked in the ring, moved a certain way.
00:23:56That's always been interesting to me.
00:23:58One of the things that I think the guys lose when they watch matches is that they start to watch
00:24:03for specific moves that guys do.
00:24:07Instead of watching the match as a whole, they start to break it down into,
00:24:11well, I like that move that he did or I like the way he did that.
00:24:15Whenever I see the young guys in the ring, it's always disheartening me when all I see them do
00:24:20is trying to figure out some kind of new crazy moonsault or some kind of crazy power slam
00:24:25that they've never seen done before, try to do some wacky thing they saw on some Japanese tape or something
00:24:30like that.
00:24:31They should be learning how to perform and to tell stories, psychology, how to work holds, how to sell,
00:24:42all the different things that make great what we do, not just going in the ring
00:24:49and trying to hit some move that nobody's ever seen before.
00:24:52They've got to look at the whole picture.
00:24:54It's from the time the guy walks out the curtain until the match is over.
00:24:57What is the story he's trying to tell?
00:24:59What's the big picture of that?
00:25:02Look at the whole wall, not just the single bricks.
00:25:07I think a lot of it is common sense as well.
00:25:11Most people think they've got common sense and there's very few have.
00:25:16I don't know if that sounds pretty harsh, but you watch good wrestling matches and they all make sense.
00:25:22There's a perfect logic to everything.
00:25:24There's a reason why this is done.
00:25:26There's a reason why that's done.
00:25:27There's a reason that this is sold.
00:25:29There's a reason why that's just registered.
00:25:30And that's the common sense of it, not just going through the moves.
00:25:35And like I say, I fell into that trap of not pushing that that I used to years ago.
00:25:40And so you just fall into it like a level, which I haven't done myself or anybody any favors by
00:25:47doing that.
00:25:48So if I get the chance again, I'm going to go back to what I did the best,
00:25:53and that was dragging people to my level.
00:25:55And that makes better wrestlers.
00:25:58And the same with other people.
00:26:00They can drag me up because there's plenty of people I admire, and I watch, and I learn,
00:26:06and I'm always the same stuff.
00:26:08I watch a lot of tapes and different things.
00:26:10But it's basically down to common sense.
00:26:13Somebody turns my arm that way.
00:26:15My body's going to go in a certain way if you fight it, and it looks awkward.
00:26:19And then, you know, it's very hard for people to understand it.
00:26:23They don't understand, you know, like people understand a struggle and an effort and a fight,
00:26:30whether it be wrestling or a brawl.
00:26:32They don't understand a lot of, you know, that they'll applaud and a lot of fancy moves,
00:26:38which I'm all, believe me, I'm all for if they're done at the right time and the right place.
00:26:43But they can't understand that deep down because they've never done it.
00:26:46And most people don't understand it, but they understand because they've wrestled around with their friends
00:26:51or they've had a punch in their mouth or they understand the way their body reacts to it.
00:26:55Maybe it's a sixth sense that people don't really pick up on.
00:26:58But I watch, you know, I watch fans and I watch the way they react to certain things.
00:27:02They may pop on certain things, but that's not what it's all about.
00:27:06It's drawing them in.
00:27:07You know, we're putting on a live show for them there,
00:27:10and you've got to bring those people in and make them believe why they're there, you know,
00:27:15and that's the case.
00:27:17Hey, hold on.
00:27:18I got a cell phone call.
00:27:20Hello.
00:27:21Mr. Rego, thank you very much for joining us here on Bite This.
00:27:23I know all of our fans in the WWE are excited to have you back
00:27:26and are looking forward to May 4th when you're back, perhaps maybe in the ring.
00:27:31Oh, can I, can I, listen, let me look.
00:27:33Michael, can you not?
00:27:33Hey, guys, Michael Hayes on the phone right now.
00:27:35Michael, Michael, Michael, this is a live show.
00:27:37Michael, come on.
00:27:39Michael.
00:27:40Yeah.
00:27:40Okay.
00:27:40There you go.
00:27:41Names, Michael.
00:27:42Names, thanks for calling.
00:27:44Jesus Christ.
00:27:45Michael, fabulous Firebirds.
00:27:47Him, Terry Gordon, Michael B.S. Haynes.
00:27:50Buddy Rogers.
00:27:51Jack Daniels.
00:27:51Buddy Rogers.
00:27:52Yeah, sure.
00:27:52I'm up for him.
00:27:54Very good.
00:27:54Some cooler students.
00:27:55And Mr. Rego again, thank you very much for being here on Bite This
00:27:57and all the fans in the WWE are excited about seeing you back,
00:28:00and thanks again for joining us.
00:28:01Why, thank you.
00:28:02Okay.
00:28:02I'll see you all later.
00:28:04Take care, Willie.
00:28:05Bye-bye.
00:28:05Good night.
00:28:06Triple H, we've got lots of questions for you.
00:28:08I'm going to flip two whole pages for you.
00:28:10Before I get to those, on sale now everywhere is the new Raw magazine
00:28:13with Chris Benoit on the cover.
00:28:15As you can see, Dr. Tom, will you hold that up?
00:28:17And the SmackDown magazine also has Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero on the cover.
00:28:21Hey, you know what I wanted to talk about while we're just on it real quick
00:28:23before you get to the questions is one of the things we talk about old tapes and stuff
00:28:26is WWE 24-7.
00:28:28Oh, very good.
00:28:29You know, is the channel or the programming.
00:28:34Yeah, video on demand system that we're going to have,
00:28:36and that'll be awesome because that's going to be, you know,
00:28:40the WWE owns libraries of WCW, NWA, you know, a lot of that stuff, ECW, AWA,
00:28:49and all this stuff, and you can go back and watch stuff from the 60s, the 70s, the 80s,
00:28:54you know what I mean, and you can see all that stuff,
00:28:56and that's going to be a huge deal.
00:28:57You'll be able to watch it whenever you want.
00:28:59It'll be constant, and I know I'm going to have it.
00:29:01Well, yeah, I think that's the best part of being a wrestling fan these days
00:29:06because they'll watch matches such as you versus Shelton Benjamin,
00:29:10and then they'll go back and see a match with the Ricky Steamboat versus Ric Flair.
00:29:14Exactly.
00:29:15And then they can understand the passion and excitement that's being carried over
00:29:18by guys like you who also watch the same kind of thing and got that feeling.
00:29:22Right, and I know, you know, like a lot of times some people that have never watched it will say,
00:29:27well, why would I want to watch something from that time frame or something?
00:29:30But it's the stuff that made people like me and Regal and Benoit and Shawn Michaels
00:29:35all want to become wrestlers, you want to become wrestlers, you know what I mean?
00:29:37And if we love it, then the fans are all going to love it, you know what I mean?
00:29:41So it's all the same.
00:29:43Like you said, a good story and a good wrestling match is timeless,
00:29:48and I think, you know, that's what all that stuff is, and that's going to be, I can't wait.
00:29:53We have P.O.D. here on Bite This.
00:29:54That's Phone On Demand.
00:29:56This is Jeff calling from Atlanta.
00:29:58Jeff, you're on the phone.
00:29:58Triple H is live here in the studio.
00:30:00P.O.D. On Demand.
00:30:01Great.
00:30:01Hey, Triple H.
00:30:02What's up, man?
00:30:03Hey, just want to let you know that I am a big fan of yours.
00:30:06I appreciate it.
00:30:07Yeah, it's only been, I guess, recently with the departure of some guys
00:30:12that I've really gotten to see how much you mean to, excuse me, to the WWE.
00:30:18So I just want to start off by saying that.
00:30:22You've been a part of, I would say, the top two groups, for lack of a better word,
00:30:27in wrestling with DX and then now Evolution.
00:30:33And obviously in the beginning, DX kind of helped you, your career propelled to where
00:30:38it is.
00:30:39I'm wondering if you've seen the same happen with Evolution.
00:30:44Oh, sure.
00:30:45I mean, I think Evolution has taken all of us to a different, to a new level.
00:30:49And I agree with you.
00:30:50You know, DX, when I first got to DX, it was kind of a launching pad for me in a
00:30:55way.
00:30:55And then I, you know, became, eventually became the leader of DX and, you know, it went further
00:31:01from there.
00:31:03And I think Evolution is the same thing, you know, and that's what Evolution was designed
00:31:06to do.
00:31:07Evolution was a concept that I had, that I wanted to do and involved Ric Flair in.
00:31:14And he got behind it also, and the two of us really wanted to form a group and take
00:31:21a couple of younger guys that we thought had the potential to be, you know, the stars of
00:31:26the future and really use that as a launching pad for those guys.
00:31:31And we watched everybody for quite a long period of time in the business.
00:31:35And we selected Randy Orton and Batista.
00:31:39And, you know, we've gone on from there.
00:31:41And I think the two of them, you've seen the two of them grow and mature and become, you
00:31:45know, I think they're both great wrestlers right now.
00:31:47I think Randy has, you know, become one of the top guys and certainly so has Batista.
00:31:53You know, I think Batista is one of the better big guys in the business, you know, right now.
00:31:57And it's only going to get even bigger.
00:31:59So it's done what we wanted it to do.
00:32:01And I'm glad people enjoy it.
00:32:04Thanks, Jeff, for the call.
00:32:05Jeff mentioned the recent departures of certain WWE superstars, which is kind of like this
00:32:09email here from Raza of Massachusetts.
00:32:11Wanted to see Brock Lesnar versus Triple H and wants to know what you think of Brock's
00:32:15departure from the WWE.
00:32:18I mean, what do I think of his departure?
00:32:20I think that, you know, Brock Lesnar, I, you know, he learned the business fairly quickly.
00:32:28He hadn't, you know, he had become world champion or WWE champion, but he'd not yet gotten to
00:32:37where he could have gone in the business or should have gone in the business.
00:32:41If he decided to leave, that's his prerogative.
00:32:44If he decided that he can't handle the business for whatever reasons or, and I don't mean that
00:32:48derogatory, but if he couldn't handle the business or the business wasn't right for him,
00:32:52great, get out.
00:32:53My only, the only negative thing that I ought to say about Brock Lesnar is you don't just
00:32:58decide to leave and then leave.
00:32:59A lot of people sacrificed, bled, sweat, and put a lot of hard work into making you get
00:33:05as far as you got.
00:33:07And it's your job then to stay and give back that blood and sweat to get somebody else into
00:33:16that position for when you leave.
00:33:17And that's my only criticism of it is I believe he handled it wrong on the way out.
00:33:22You know, will we ever see Brock Lesnar back?
00:33:25Probably.
00:33:25I don't see him playing in the Super Bowl anytime soon.
00:33:28So I bet you, you know, at some point in time, I think Brock's skill in life, certainly
00:33:33he's not going to become an accountant tomorrow or start doing brain surgery tomorrow or he's
00:33:37not launching a rocket to the moon.
00:33:39So, you know, I would imagine we'll probably see Brock Lesnar back eventually.
00:33:44And if we do, I'd love to get in the ring with him.
00:33:48Let me ask you this, just changing gears real quick.
00:33:51How thick or how deep would you say the rivalry or competition is between Raw and SmackDown?
00:33:58It's pretty thick.
00:33:59Yeah.
00:34:00You know, what's funny is, you know, when we did the, when we first did the split, you
00:34:05know, everybody was like, no big deal or something like that.
00:34:07And now it's very competitive.
00:34:10You know, when, when the ratings are up on, on Raw, boy, everybody is, you know, putting
00:34:15down SmackDown.
00:34:17You know, if we do big show, big, big money shows or whatever, it's, yeah, well, what's
00:34:21SmackDown doing?
00:34:22You know what I mean?
00:34:23When, when we did the draft and guys had to leave, I mean, literally, if you were on
00:34:27Raw and guys were leaving to go to SmackDown, you were laughing at them and, and vice versa.
00:34:31The guys on SmackDown were laughing at the guys that had to go over to Raw.
00:34:34Wow.
00:34:34It's very, it's very competitive.
00:34:40And, you know, when, when you go on a show, like when you go to WrestleMania or something
00:34:44like that, and everybody is there, it's amazing.
00:34:46You walk in catering, the room's almost divided.
00:34:49All the SmackDown guys are sitting together in groups and talking and then all the Raw guys
00:34:53are sitting in groups talking, you know, and the guys chat back and forth and stuff,
00:34:56but it's mainly two groups, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's deep.
00:35:01You think that's a pretty healthy way to look at it, huh?
00:35:03Or, I think it's great.
00:35:05Yeah.
00:35:05Yeah, I think it's great.
00:35:06You know, competition, you know, nothing, nothing makes you successful better than having
00:35:11somebody right on your ass.
00:35:12Yeah.
00:35:13You know what I mean?
00:35:13Making you, making you work harder and making you push yourself, you know, when you start
00:35:19getting lazy and, you know what I mean?
00:35:21Yeah.
00:35:21When you got somebody breathing down your neck, you know, I guarantee you SmackDown, SmackDown
00:35:26starts doing way better business than Raw's and, and you watch how, how much the guys
00:35:32on Raw turned it up, you know, I mean, and vice versa.
00:35:34It's just, it's great.
00:35:35It's great to have, you know, it's no different than the Monday Night Wars when Nitro was on
00:35:38and Raw was on, boy, that, that, it was a war, you know what I mean?
00:35:43And, and I think this is the same thing, even though we were all working for the same company,
00:35:46it's still a war.
00:35:47Boy, everybody wants to be the best, you know?
00:35:49Right.
00:35:50Back to the phones we go again.
00:35:51This is Julian from New York.
00:35:53Julian, you're on the phone.
00:35:54Triple H is live here in the studio.
00:35:56Hi.
00:35:57First, I just want to say Triple H, I'm a big fan of yours since it's anti-debut in 1995,
00:36:02WWE.
00:36:03And my question is, I want, what was it like working with Wesley Snipes while filming Blade
00:36:083?
00:36:09Um, Wesley Snipes, to me, was great.
00:36:12I'm sure if you've read any of the tabloid stuff about it, that there was a lot of problems
00:36:19with Wesley Snipes on the set, I guess, you know, attitude problems between he and director
00:36:25David Goyer and some of the other cast members and even some of the crew.
00:36:30It was pretty intense at some point in some of the stuff I witnessed, but, you know, to
00:36:35me, he was great.
00:36:36He was a gentleman to me.
00:36:38He was very nice to me.
00:36:40He talked about wrestling.
00:36:42You know, he was great to me.
00:36:44I never had a problem with him, but, you know, he'd know I'd drop him in a second if he
00:36:47gave
00:36:48me a hassle.
00:36:48So, you know, he was fine to me.
00:36:50So, I got no complaints with it, even though I know a lot of people probably wasn't their
00:36:55best experience.
00:36:56Jessica Biel was there, too.
00:36:58Jessica Biel, on the other hand, it was hard to get her off of me.
00:37:02That chick was all over me.
00:37:03God, Jesus.
00:37:04That was unbelievable.
00:37:05That's nice, huh?
00:37:06Yeah, it wasn't bad.
00:37:07Can you tell us when Blade Trinity will be out in theaters?
00:37:10Blade was supposed to come out in August, but they actually just pushed the release date
00:37:16back to December 12th, I believe, now.
00:37:20Having seen the early edits of the movie and stuff, they feel like it's going to be a much
00:37:28bigger release than maybe they originally anticipated.
00:37:31So, they moved it back to be released at Christmastime, which is, you know, one of the two biggest times
00:37:35of the year to release films.
00:37:36It's when all the blockbuster big movies come out and stuff.
00:37:38So, on one hand, that's great.
00:37:41It means they think it's going to be a hell of a movie.
00:37:43On the other hand, it just means more competition.
00:37:45But, you know, I just hope it's entertaining and I hope that I did a decent job with it, you
00:37:49know.
00:37:49You know, speaking of more competition, taking a look out there on the horizon, because you're going to be here,
00:37:57no doubt.
00:37:58You are the game.
00:37:59Who out there would you like to face?
00:38:02Is there anybody that you haven't wrestled, haven't been in the ring with, that you would like to?
00:38:07There's a few guys.
00:38:08I'd love to get in the ring with Edge.
00:38:10I think Edge is a guy coming back off a year injury that has a lot of promise and a
00:38:15lot of potential,
00:38:16and I think he's going to go really far.
00:38:20Or, you know, when I look at some of the guys on the other side, I like Ray Mysterio is
00:38:26a guy.
00:38:27Yeah, Ray Mysterio is a guy I'd like to bat around like a little Mexican jumping bean.
00:38:31Yeah.
00:38:32But, yeah, you know, there's a lot of guys in the business that I see up-and-coming guys, you
00:38:37know.
00:38:38It's hard for me sometimes when I look at it.
00:38:40Like most of the guys that I'd, if you said, oh, pick a fantasy match for yourself.
00:38:44I've wrestled so many of the greats in the business from this era.
00:38:47So when I look at it, like, I either have to look at, okay, who's going to be the next
00:38:52huge guy?
00:38:55Or, you know, I look at guys from the past, like I would have loved to have wrestled Harley or,
00:38:59you know,
00:39:00Dory Jr. or Jack Briscoe or, you know, guys like that, you know.
00:39:06That would have been, you know, those would have been the guys that I would have loved to have worked
00:39:09with.
00:39:09But, you know, for now, I look at the guys that are up-and-coming and say, okay,
00:39:13what guys do I see coming up that I think, like, that's a guy I want to grab on and
00:39:18say, let's go, you know.
00:39:19Right.
00:39:20How cool was it for you to induct Superstar in the Hall of Fame?
00:39:23That was awesome.
00:39:24Yeah.
00:39:24Yeah, you know, the whole night was awesome.
00:39:27To anybody that has not seen the Hall of Fame from WrestleMania this year,
00:39:32I highly recommend the DVD, and that's not a merchandise plug.
00:39:35It's just if you're a fan of wrestling, it's just awesome.
00:39:38It's, you know, the WWE showing respect to the past of our business.
00:39:46And to see, just to be up there on the same stage as guys that you grew up watching.
00:39:50I'm sitting next to Ric Flair, who's, you know, one of my best friends now, but is, you know, an
00:39:55idol of mine.
00:39:56And then I've got another idol of mine sitting in front of me, Harley Race,
00:39:59and Greg Valentine's sitting there, a guy who I watched and, you know, loved his work.
00:40:04And then here's superstar Billy Graham, who, you know, as far as charisma and characters goes,
00:40:09like the biggest, you know, of all time.
00:40:11Just so many guys that were up there that were just awesome, you know, venture.
00:40:16And it was just an unbelievable night.
00:40:19And for me, you know, as I could tell Superstar, as excited as he was to get inducted in the
00:40:25Hall of Fame
00:40:26and, you know, to be out of the limelight for that long and now to have an opportunity to be
00:40:30paid respect to,
00:40:31and that's an awesome thrill for those guys.
00:40:33But as big of a thrill as it was for Superstar, it was a big a thrill for me to
00:40:36induct him.
00:40:37And I know, you know, that Ric felt the same way with Harley.
00:40:39I think Ric was more nervous, and I was more nervous about our speeches for those guys
00:40:44than I was about my match at WrestleMania.
00:40:46You know, I was, like, more nervous about the Hall of Fame banquet than I was about the next day,
00:40:50you know.
00:40:50Yeah.
00:40:51Well, back to the phones we go.
00:40:53This is Boom Boom from Miami.
00:40:56Boom Boom, you're on the phone with Triple H.
00:40:58Hi, Triple H.
00:40:59Boom Boom, why do they call you Boom Boom?
00:41:01Oh, because of my boobs.
00:41:03Oh, are they huge?
00:41:04Yeah, they are.
00:41:05All right.
00:41:06But I want to ask something, a question to you.
00:41:08We've got to get one of those two-way camera things going on now.
00:41:11Yeah, right?
00:41:12Yeah.
00:41:13I wanted to ask you, is it true what they say about big noses?
00:41:16Guys with big noses have big penises?
00:41:20Well, you know, big noses, big hands.
00:41:23I don't know if you've seen these catcher's mitts I got.
00:41:25Big feet, which they're not, you know what I mean?
00:41:27It's the whole thing, you know.
00:41:29It's a widescreen TV, sister, and I'd take it out, but, I mean, it's only so wide, you know what
00:41:34I mean?
00:41:36Okay, then.
00:41:36Thank you, Boom Boom, for the phone call.
00:41:38We now have our next guest calling us.
00:41:41This is Randy Orton.
00:41:42Josh is very embarrassed about any penis question.
00:41:45Randy, welcome to Bite This.
00:41:47How are you guys doing?
00:41:48And just for the record, I wear a size 15 shoe.
00:41:50Oh, very nice, yes.
00:41:52Yeah, but you've got a sock rolled up in the end of your boot.
00:41:54Boom, all right.
00:41:56Hey, hey, no sock, no sock.
00:42:00What's up, kid?
00:42:01What's up?
00:42:02What's going on?
00:42:03Not much.
00:42:04How are you guys doing?
00:42:05Well, we're doing okay.
00:42:07We're having a good time here in beautiful Stanford, Connecticut today.
00:42:10But this Sunday, it looks like you're going to have your hands full.
00:42:16We talked about Chris Jericho having his hands full earlier, but you're going to have to be facing Cactus Jack
00:42:22in a hardcore rules match, man.
00:42:25How are you feeling?
00:42:27Well, you know, it's kind of hard to explain how I'm feeling right now.
00:42:31The last couple weeks since I've been aware, you know, of what's going to happen at Backlash, it's, you know,
00:42:37it's been hard to sleep.
00:42:38It's been hard to eat, you know, it's hard to stay focused right now just because, you know, this is,
00:42:44this is, this is Mick's, or Cactus Jack, whatever you want to call him.
00:42:48This is his kind of match.
00:42:49This is his thing.
00:42:50He practically wrote the rules, and there are no rules.
00:42:53That's the thing, you know.
00:42:54So I've got a lot to think about, but I am confident, you know, that I will bring, you know,
00:43:00everything there with me, Backlash, that, you know, I might need.
00:43:03You know, I'm going to, I'm going to have the mindset, you know, that day.
00:43:06I'll be prepared mentally.
00:43:07It's just, you know, who knows what can, what can happen in that kind of situation.
00:43:12It's going to be a, it's going to be a very, very long day for me.
00:43:17Well, this, this is a match I'm sure that Triple H can speak on.
00:43:23It's one of those things that you're not going to get out of unscathed.
00:43:27It's one of those things that Mick's going to look to be opening up your head or opening up any
00:43:32part of your body,
00:43:33making sure that you bleed during this match as much as possible.
00:43:38And I know he's not going to take it easy on you.
00:43:40He's going to make you earn your money that night.
00:43:42Are you prepared to do that?
00:43:44Well, you know, I'm prepared to do that.
00:43:47And I think anyone in this business, you know, that's going to be faced with this kind of thing would
00:43:52have to say, you know,
00:43:53that they signed up for it.
00:43:55They wanted to become a professional wrestler.
00:43:57This is just one of those things that, you know, is, you know, that I've never been involved in.
00:44:02You know, Mick has.
00:44:03So there's, I have a lot of disadvantages.
00:44:06But, you know, as far as going through this match without, you know, losing any blood, you know, there's going
00:44:12to be blood loss.
00:44:13You know, how do I know it's not over in a minute?
00:44:16You know, how do I know we don't go an hour?
00:44:18I don't know.
00:44:19A bat, barbed wire, you know, the thumbtacks, chairs, trash cans, all the metal, all the possibilities.
00:44:26You know, you could get knocked out and that's done.
00:44:29You could lose a pint of blood or too much blood.
00:44:31I don't know how much you have to lose to pass out, but that could happen.
00:44:34There's just so many possibilities.
00:44:35So many things have been going on in my mind.
00:44:37You know, it's really going to, it's really going to be tough.
00:44:41You know, for me personally, just to step in that ring, but the mindset, I'm just going to have to
00:44:46be very focused.
00:44:47And right now I don't have that.
00:44:48But the next few days, trust me, you know, when I say this, I'm definitely concentrating on, you know, that
00:44:55aspect.
00:44:55And you mentioned Triple H, you know, going rounds with Cactus Jack, you know, I watched the Rumble from 2000
00:45:01and the Hell in a Cell with Mick and Hunter.
00:45:04And, you know, I've done my best to study up on Mick and all of his hardcore matches that I
00:45:09can, you know.
00:45:10So I'm doing everything on my end to be prepared for Sunday.
00:45:12I think that the one thing that Randy just has to remember is all this, you know, all this stuff
00:45:20that Cactus is going to do, he's going to bring in the barbed wire, he's going to do all this
00:45:23stuff, and he's going to try to hurt Randy, he's going to try to hurt him bad.
00:45:27But the one thing you've got to do is you've got to remember that when you come out of this
00:45:32match, this is the kind of match that can make a career.
00:45:34Because it's the kind of match where people say, well, Randy Orton's a good wrestler, but how tough is he?
00:45:41How, you know, how willing to go the distance is he?
00:45:45How much is he willing to hang it on the line?
00:45:47And this is the kind of thing that when Randy Orton lets it all hang out, when Randy Orton puts
00:45:51it on the line, and Randy Orton takes every bit that Cactus Jack has in his kind of match,
00:45:57and then he still beats Cactus Jack, this is the kind of match that will make Randy Orton a household
00:46:03name.
00:46:05That's very well said, Hunter, and I appreciate the confidence you have in me, and I'm going to do my
00:46:11best to impress and to make you and the rest of Evolution proud, and my father, of course.
00:46:17I know you will.
00:46:18We have an email here from Alex of Fairfax, Virginia.
00:46:21He wants to know, after you get done with Mick Foley, which legend's career would you like to kill next?
00:46:27Wow, that's a tricky question.
00:46:29You know, I've been so involved with Mick, you know, this last half a year, you know, especially, you know,
00:46:36stemming back from last June, as a matter of fact.
00:46:41I'm totally involved with him now, and that's what I'm concentrating on.
00:46:44As far as that question, I'm sorry, but I don't have an answer.
00:46:48I think the answer to that question, Randy, is, it's not easy to answer because the question is wrong.
00:46:55When you get done with Mick Foley, you will no longer be the legend killer.
00:47:00You will now be the legend.
00:47:01This match will make you a legend.
00:47:03This match will make you all those things.
00:47:06You won't have to be a legend killer to prove yourself anymore.
00:47:09Now somebody will have to try to come after Randy Orton.
00:47:13No, I like that.
00:47:14I like the sound of that.
00:47:15Well, again, if you walk out of this match this Sunday, still the Intercontinental Champion, you're going to have a
00:47:22target even larger on your back than it already is right now.
00:47:25So you definitely have your work cut out for you, no doubt about it.
00:47:30That is definitely correct.
00:47:32And now we go to the phones.
00:47:33This is Josh from West Virginia.
00:47:35Josh, you're on the phone with Randy Orton and Triple H is live in the studio.
00:47:38Yeah, I was wondering, Randy, what's it like to have the two greatest wrestlers of all time, Triple H and
00:47:44Ric Flair,
00:47:45to guide you through your wrestling career?
00:47:48You know, I couldn't say it any other way that I'm in the best company possible, whether it's backstage or
00:47:56on those long trips in the car, you know, week in and week out.
00:48:00I learn a lot from these guys.
00:48:02And Batista, too, you know, we're both in this together and we're learning from these guys.
00:48:08It's like nothing else.
00:48:10When you're in this business and you have this opportunity, especially with these two men, people of this stature that,
00:48:17you know,
00:48:17when you think of wrestling, you think of people like Ric Flair, you think of guys like Triple H, you
00:48:22know,
00:48:22the best champions this business has ever seen.
00:48:25And, you know, it's an honor to be, you know, at their side and learning from them.
00:48:29Definitely, you know, got an advantage over the competition.
00:48:35That's a definite plus.
00:48:37Randy also gets the advantage of not only getting it from guys like Flair and stuff on the road,
00:48:44but then when he gets to go home and he gets to hear it from, you know, his dad, which,
00:48:48you know, Cowboy Bob Orton,
00:48:51you know what I mean, the ace, it's, you know, he gets it 24-7.
00:48:56There's, you know, another legend in the business is sitting there waiting for him when he gets home to tell
00:49:00him all the things that he saw.
00:49:02You know, so it's, Randy Orton is in a 24-7 learning environment, and that's just awesome.
00:49:08That's why Randy Orton is going to be one of the biggest stars, already is, and is going to continue
00:49:13to become a bigger and bigger star,
00:49:15you know, until eventually when I retire, he'll be the biggest star in the business.
00:49:21Thank you, Hunter.
00:49:22You're right, and it's true.
00:49:23When I go home, my father's there, and the first thing he asks me, or the first thing he tells
00:49:28me is, you know, what I did wrong.
00:49:29And then my biggest, you know, the biggest thing for me to do is to go week by week and
00:49:35just try and correct those things
00:49:37and become as flawless as I can in the ring, which I'm far from, but I think I'm on the
00:49:41right track, definitely.
00:49:43Well, no doubt about it.
00:49:45Let's continue on with the phones, and Daniela from Long Island, go ahead.
00:49:50You're on the phone with Randy Orton and Triple H.
00:49:52Hey, how's everyone doing?
00:49:54We're doing wonderful.
00:49:55How are you?
00:49:56I'm good.
00:49:56Well, along the lines of the legend, I wanted to know what other wrestling legends from the past would you
00:50:03have like to go toe-to-toe with?
00:50:06Who's that question?
00:50:07Well, Triple H answered that question earlier.
00:50:11Go ahead, Randy.
00:50:12Oh, I'm sorry.
00:50:13Which legends would I like to go to from the past?
00:50:15Was that the question?
00:50:16Yes.
00:50:17Okay.
00:50:18My father tagged with Dick Slater.
00:50:20My father tagged with Don Morocco.
00:50:23These guys that I watched my father work with and perform with.
00:50:28You know, Roddy Piper, guys like that.
00:50:30Tito Santana.
00:50:31Steamboat.
00:50:32All these guys I would love to work with.
00:50:34And for all kinds of reasons, not just because, you know, of who they are, what they've done in the
00:50:39business, but because growing up, you know, I was more on a personal level with them than anyone else, especially
00:50:46the fans, because a lot of times I'd be backstage and I'd see these guys.
00:50:50You know, I remember JYD, Junkyard Dog, chasing me down the hallway with a broom going, git, git, git.
00:50:56You know, like, it's just freaking me out, but I'll have that memory for the rest of my life.
00:51:00And a lot of people can't say that they've been in that kind of, you know, situation with these guys,
00:51:04these legends that, you know, you know, like, you know, bless his heart, he's not with us anymore, but I'll
00:51:09always have that memory.
00:51:11You know, I wouldn't say it'd just be one man or one legend, you know.
00:51:15It'd be everyone from my dad to Jake the Snake to the names that I listed, you know, Greg Valentine.
00:51:21I mean, just the list would be endless.
00:51:24I'd like to work with everybody if I could, but if I could work with just one person, it would
00:51:29definitely be my father.
00:51:31All right, Daniella, thank you very much for the question.
00:51:33Daniella, are you still there?
00:51:34No, we hang up on him as soon as he asks a question.
00:51:37That's what Phil does.
00:51:38That's what Phil does.
00:51:39That's nice.
00:51:39Oh, Daniella, are you still there on the phone?
00:51:41Yeah, yeah.
00:51:42Oh, tremendous.
00:51:42Oh, great information, Jeff.
00:51:44That's what we normally do, Dr. Tom.
00:51:45We normally just hang up on him.
00:51:46We'll make a call.
00:51:47Daniella, what are you wearing?
00:51:49What am I wearing?
00:51:50Yeah.
00:51:50I'm actually pretty scrubbed out right now.
00:51:53Really?
00:51:53Can you make up something good?
00:51:54Grubbed out, no.
00:51:56You're on the phone.
00:51:57I mean, make it good.
00:51:59Randy's home alone.
00:52:00I'm in studio.
00:52:01Nothing happened here.
00:52:02I'm actually sitting here naked on my couch.
00:52:04See?
00:52:05Nice.
00:52:06Yeah.
00:52:06Yeah.
00:52:07Imagine that.
00:52:08Yeah.
00:52:08A little size 15 feet.
00:52:10Yeah, propped up, right?
00:52:11Just hanging off the couch here.
00:52:12His feet are blocking the TV.
00:52:14Anyway.
00:52:15Yeah.
00:52:15All right, Daniella.
00:52:16Just kind of went the other way.
00:52:19Next caller.
00:52:20Next caller.
00:52:21Daniella, take a shower and call us back.
00:52:23There you go.
00:52:23Hey, Randy, let me ask you this, because I know you guys have probably heard it.
00:52:28Well, I'm certain you guys have heard this, the comparison to Evolution and the Four Horsemen.
00:52:34Give me the difference between Evolution and the Horsemen.
00:52:40Randy or me?
00:52:41Well, let's start with Randy and we'll get you.
00:52:43All right.
00:52:43How's that?
00:52:44Well, I would first off say that, you know, the original Four Horsemen compared to, you
00:52:50know, Evolution right now, it's kind of like just a difference in time periods.
00:52:55Like, look back in the day, you have four guys that were running things, do whatever
00:53:00they want, you know, basically took charge of whatever situation they wanted to take
00:53:05charge of.
00:53:06Then you fast forward to 2003, 2004, and here you have us.
00:53:11You know, it's just kind of a, what am I trying to say?
00:53:15It's just kind of like the same group of guys, only this age, this time, this day and age.
00:53:22You know what I'm saying?
00:53:22Yeah.
00:53:23You know, that's the best way I can explain it.
00:53:26Well, I think that, first off, let me just say that for me, you know, the ultimate compliment
00:53:32in my career at any point in time is getting a cell phone call in the middle of, this is
00:53:40Kevin Nash.
00:53:41Oh, well, hey.
00:53:42Hey, Kev.
00:53:43Uh-oh.
00:53:44Hey, I'm on Bite This right now.
00:53:45You're on with me.
00:53:46I'm live on the internet.
00:53:48Yeah.
00:53:49Let me call you back.
00:53:51See ya.
00:53:53Kevin Nash, ladies and gentlemen.
00:53:55You've got to come on if we want to.
00:53:56Hey, go see The Punisher, because he's in that.
00:53:59He starts tomorrow.
00:54:00Punisher, yeah.
00:54:01Punisher's a hell of a movie.
00:54:02He's the Russian at the end.
00:54:04Anyway, what I was going to say is, you know, any time to be compared to anything of that
00:54:10era to me that has to do anything with Ric Flair, for me to be compared as a wrestler
00:54:14to Flair in any way is the biggest thrill of my career.
00:54:17To have Evolution be compared to the Four Horsemen is, you know, a huge compliment.
00:54:24But I think that when you form a group like this, it's immediately compared to the Horsemen
00:54:30because they were the originals.
00:54:31They were the first one.
00:54:32They were the first big power group in wrestling.
00:54:34And they did it all.
00:54:35And they did it probably better than anybody that's done it since then.
00:54:39And, you know, I think that we do a hell of a job.
00:54:43Evolution does.
00:54:44And I think, like Randy said, it's just a time difference.
00:54:49But, you know, there's going to be differences between anything.
00:54:52Nothing is going to be exactly like something else.
00:54:54So I like to think they're on different pages, but just as great, you know.
00:54:59All right.
00:54:59We've got another phone call all the way from Ireland.
00:55:01This is Elizabeth calling.
00:55:03Elizabeth, you're on the phone with Randy Orton and Triple H.
00:55:06Hello.
00:55:06Hello.
00:55:08How are you?
00:55:09Lovely.
00:55:12It's very nice to talk to you.
00:55:14It's very nice to talk to you, too.
00:55:17I just have a question for you, if you don't mind.
00:55:20No, that's why you called.
00:55:21All righty.
00:55:23I just wanted to know if Triple H and Randy Orton are excited about coming to Ireland in May.
00:55:31Yeah, we're very excited about coming to Ireland.
00:55:35You know, I personally am, and I don't know how Randy feels, but I personally am very excited.
00:55:40I enjoy very much going overseas.
00:55:42I enjoy going to other countries and getting to wrestle in front of the fans there because we don't get
00:55:47to go there all the time.
00:55:49I enjoy the other cultures.
00:55:51I enjoy going there and, like I said, traveling the world and getting to see fans that we don't get
00:55:55to see all the time.
00:55:56And usually they're so responsive that it's just awesome.
00:56:00You know, not that I dislike being in the U.S. because that's our home, obviously.
00:56:05But it's a thrill for us, and Ireland can't wait to get back there.
00:56:10Yeah, same here.
00:56:12I believe we're in Dublin for two nights, if I'm not mistaken.
00:56:15Yeah, back-to-back shows in Ireland, and it's the first time, I believe, in ten years.
00:56:19Oh, is it?
00:56:20Yeah, actually, I was going to say, I didn't know when the last time we were there,
00:56:23but as far as, like what you said, Hunter, the fans being so responsive,
00:56:29that's one of the most exciting things about going overseas, I think, for me,
00:56:32is the different kinds of responses you get from the fans.
00:56:35You know, for being overseas, like in Japan, for me, it was such an experience
00:56:40because it was my first time in February over there,
00:56:43and it was just a totally different way for the fans to respond.
00:56:47And, you know, this time in Ireland, not only the cultural differences
00:56:51and the women, of course, and everything like that, the nightlife, the parties, everything,
00:56:56but the fans, you know, over there are going to be so amped up, it'll be great.
00:57:00I'm very excited.
00:57:01Sure.
00:57:02Hey, Randy, let me ask you this.
00:57:04Talking about partying, can you keep up with Ric Flair?
00:57:08No.
00:57:09Okay.
00:57:10No, I don't know, honestly, if any of the boys can.
00:57:13Nobody can keep up with Flair.
00:57:14He's like the Larry Flint, the wrestling.
00:57:16You're not kidding.
00:57:19Yeah, okay.
00:57:20Well, we'll find out Sunday night after Backlash if Randy Orton will be celebrating or not
00:57:24as he takes on Mick Foley, Cactus Jack, in a hardcore match for the Inter...
00:57:28When?
00:57:29When Randy Orton defeats Mick Foley, Cactus Jack, for the Intercontinental Championship.
00:57:34Randy, can you hear real well over the phone?
00:57:36I'm actually having trouble with some of you guys in and out.
00:57:39You hear this smacking sound?
00:57:40That's me punching Josh.
00:57:41Can you hear that?
00:57:42I do hear that.
00:57:44Is that because he cut you off?
00:57:45I'm not going to be able to play PlayStation later if you keep hitting my arm.
00:57:49I'm sure there's other things you won't be able to do with it either.
00:57:52Like put on your mom's bra.
00:57:54That might be tough, too.
00:57:56Actually, he's wearing that now.
00:57:59Well, listen, Randy, thank you very much for joining us here on...
00:58:02Tell me you're not jassing me.
00:58:03No, not at all.
00:58:04Tell me you're not.
00:58:05No, not at all.
00:58:05I will aim five inches up and knock you out.
00:58:07I think it's funny.
00:58:09Randy, thank you very much for being here.
00:58:10Best of luck Sunday at Backlash.
00:58:12No, sir, I appreciate that.
00:58:14Thank you very much.
00:58:15Okay.
00:58:16Anything you guys want to say before we end up?
00:58:17Well, thank you.
00:58:18No, thank you, Josh.
00:58:19Way to end the show.
00:58:20You know, like, way to, you know...
00:58:22No, we're not done.
00:58:23We're not done yet?
00:58:24No, we've got a little bit longer to go.
00:58:26Holy cow.
00:58:26Just a little...
00:58:28What?
00:58:29Nothing.
00:58:29Go ahead.
00:58:29All right, Randy, go back to being naked in front of the TV.
00:58:32All right, talk...
00:58:32Thanks, Randy.
00:58:33Yeah, best of luck.
00:58:34Watch out for Barbie.
00:58:35Give it a tug for Josh.
00:58:38Okay, see you later.
00:58:40Well, that was Randy Orton.
00:58:42He's got a huge match this Sunday at Backlash.
00:58:44As does Triple H.
00:58:45The World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line.
00:58:46The final encounter, the triple threat match.
00:58:49Chris Benoit defending the title against yourself and Shawn Michaels.
00:58:51What are you reading off that paper like an idiot?
00:58:53You don't know what the hell's going on?
00:58:54No, I know what's going on.
00:58:55I know what's going on.
00:58:56I know what's going on.
00:58:56I'm trying to find out what that...
00:58:58I was looking for that, actually, right there.
00:58:59Tonight on SmackDown, Booker T versus Rob Van Dam, former friends.
00:59:03Now go one-on-one.
00:59:04And the SmackDown debut of Rico and Miss Jackie.
00:59:07So we're all looking forward to that.
00:59:09Plus, Eddie Guerrero, the new number one contender, John Bradshaw-Layfield, JBL, Kurt Angle.
00:59:13And you'll be shocked, shocked, I tell you, by what the big show has in store for everyone on SmackDown.
00:59:18Real quick, I just have a question I'd like to ask Triple H, if you don't mind.
00:59:22Have you had a chance to see the new John Bradshaw-Layfield?
00:59:25Yeah.
00:59:25New and improved.
00:59:27Any thoughts you'd like to share about his new change of attitude, look, and...
00:59:31Well, it's better than the drunken buffoon he was before.
00:59:35Yeah, he seems to have a nice tailor now, and there's a little bit of cash behind him.
00:59:42The horns on the limo are a bit much for my taste.
00:59:45I guess, probably coming from New England, I wouldn't put horns on the front of my car.
00:59:49But, you know, hey, whatever works for him works for him.
00:59:52You know, the whole stopping the Mexicans from coming on the border thing works for me.
00:59:56You know, so far, so good.
01:00:00Very good.
01:00:01What do you think about it?
01:00:02I think it's great.
01:00:03Who cares?
01:00:03Next week, right here on BiteThis.
01:00:05Dr. Tom, you won't be here again.
01:00:06You'll probably be in Louisville, I'm sure.
01:00:07No, I'll be in California doing some motion capture this time, Josh.
01:00:10Okay, well, I hope you have a good time.
01:00:11Jim Ross, good old JR will be here.
01:00:13Yes, that's right.
01:00:14It will be the announcer's edition of BiteThis.
01:00:16Michael Cole and my partner, Bill DeMont, will be calling in.
01:00:18So, come back next Thursday.
01:00:20Yeah, Bill DeMont.
01:00:21Not Michael Cole, Bill DeMont.
01:00:23My partner on velocity.
01:00:24Your partner.
01:00:25So, Triple H, last encounter, final encounter.
01:00:27Let me get you.
01:00:28You're the catcher, right?
01:00:29This Sunday at No Way Out.
01:00:31So, thank you very much for being here.
01:00:32We really appreciate it.
01:00:33Maybe you'll come back next week.
01:00:34Two.
01:00:35Goodbye.
01:00:35One, wrap it up.
01:00:59One, wrap it up.
