00:00Then, just before the fight, due to weight cut issues,

00:03Reddinghouse missed weight by almost 5 pounds.

00:05So he was yanked before the fight and replaced by Marcilio Alves,

00:08who was supposed to be an alternate and now was thrust into the main event of this card.

00:13And boy, did he show up, the 25-year-old Brazilian coming in there

00:16against a 36-year-old Brazilian, a guy who he probably has looked up to for years

00:20in the fighting community down there.

00:22Takes him out. He had a 1-on-1 Bellator record.

00:24He gets the win, Alves, by split decision.

00:27It was quite a battle, Alves, coming in there.

00:29Very interesting.

00:30Higo, you know, bouncing all around, looking to do his thing.

00:32Alves kind of flat-footed, just looking for his shots,

00:35looking to pick apart the earlier statesman Higo.

00:38Higo had a good run of shots with about a minute left,

00:41but, you know, Alves had a good shot earlier,

00:43stopping the Higo takedown defense, attempts, stuffing him,

00:47hitting him with the shots. I thought he won the first round.

00:49Second round, no one's really landing some big shots,

00:51but Higo keeps going for those takedowns, keeps getting stuffed.

00:53Alves landed some shots throughout the fight here and there,

00:55nothing that, you know, was really huge.

00:57But, now, Alves up two rounds to none for me.

01:01Third round, Alves started to slow down a little bit,

01:03starting to switch stances.

01:04That leg started to bottom, that, you know, front leg

01:06that had been worked on by Higo a couple times

01:09throughout the first two rounds.

01:10And then Higo started to come alive,

01:12especially later in the fight.

01:14Starts to get his takedown stuffed,

01:16but still is able to get some good leg hits.

01:18You know, another high kick with one minute left.

01:20Starts to pick apart his opponent.

01:22Starts to actually get some shots in there.

01:24Tried to get the leg tanked down, but couldn't follow through.

01:25I thought that that was Higo's best round.

01:28I thought he won the third, but it was too little, too late.

01:31I had a 29-28 Alves on my card.

01:33Judges have it 29-28 on two cards, 28-29 the other way.

01:37So, it is a split decision win for Alves to pull the upset.

01:41Says he felt amazing going in.

01:43He's going to become a champion.

01:44He's going to rip through these guys.

01:46That he respected his opponent and Higo,

01:48that he'd been planning for him,

01:49but it was the job for him to go in there and beat him,

01:51and that's what he did.

01:53Says his leg's a little bruised, but he'll be back to training,

01:54and he's going to face Jake Hadley in the semifinals.

02:00The co-main event became Liz Carmouche, the guerrilla,

02:03against Ilara Joani.

02:05Joani, the Brazilian, the 30-year-old,

02:06was a former Bellator and PFL fighter,

02:08lost three fights in a row before winning her last one.

02:10Now coming in against Carmouche, the 41-year-old American,

02:12the guerrilla who's fought in the UFC,

02:14Bellator, PFL, former Bellator title holder,

02:17and she just did what you should when you get a lesser opponent

02:21who's coming in there and not having that same experience.

02:24She dominated her.

02:25He's dropped her with a right cross and a trip in the first punch of the fight.

02:28Early on, rushed forward, beat her up a little bit against the cage.

02:31Eventually, she got some uppercuts and some knees to the body,

02:35beating up her opponent with just one minute left in the fight.

02:38She survived a submission attempt and then just took her down

02:41and started pounding on the body.

02:42You know, she's nicknamed the guerrilla,

02:44and she was just throwing fists like Donkey Kong,

02:46just pounding her to the body as she was up against the cage

02:49before the ref finally gets in there and stops it.

02:52She talked about how even though she's later in her fight career here,

02:55for one of the first times ever, got a nutritionist,

02:57got a coach to help her through the weight cut,

02:59and it was one of her easiest ever.

03:00Said she feels great.

03:02Wanted to get some bucklet finishes.

03:03They were talking about that throughout the fight.

03:05One of those apparently was beating up the body with the liver shots.

03:07She gets that one.

03:08She also talked about maybe getting some submissions later on.

03:10We'll see if that comes to fruition later in the tournament,

03:13but she's one of the favorites in this tournament

03:15and will probably be even more so after Santos and Velasquez.

03:20Santos drops out.

03:21Velasquez ends up losing, which we'll talk about later.

03:23Now she'll face Laura Donna in the semifinals.
