JP and BMitch discuss the hot start from Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan. The guys believe Washington can win a bunch of games if the starters are able to bridge the gap to Finnegan.
Transcript
00:00You know, it was really refreshing with the Nats.
00:03Jake Irvin threw a gem last night.
00:06Really strong start.
00:07Jake threw a gem, man.
00:07That damn big boy is good.
00:10Dude, I mean, just another homer.
00:12A jack, too.
00:13I mean, just an absolute blast early on.
00:18Take a lead.
00:20Irvin's going to be on with Grant and Danny this afternoon.
00:22That should be a cool conversation.
00:24But, you know, like the part, the James Wood home run is obviously the highlight.
00:27But I was kind of flipping back and forth between the Caps and the Nats
00:32because I didn't feel like turning the top TVs on.
00:35I just needed one TV, et cetera, right?
00:39You know what happened?
00:40Because they got, I think they got seven strong from their starter.
00:46They didn't have to rely on the bullpen,
00:48and therefore the bullpen didn't blow anything.
00:50Yeah, yeah.
00:50Yo, I don't.
00:52But you're not going to get seven strong from your starter all the time.
00:55Sure.
00:55I'm not saying that we should get used to this.
00:57Okay.
00:58But it was pleasant.
00:59White bride, tell me Kyle Finnegan's stats on the year.
01:02I bet he had, you can just text it to me, whatever's easy.
01:04I bet he can't have a lot of saves so far.
01:08Like, I bet he doesn't even get a lot of save opportunities so far.
01:12But I got to watch the ninth Finnegan.
01:15It was a nice, tidy ball game from the dudes pitching on the Washington Nationals.
01:22Like, I think he struck out two in the ninth.
01:26It was just, listen, I think Pittsburgh sucks too.
01:31So I'm not exactly planning a parade, but I enjoyed that outing from the Washington Nationals pitchers last night.
01:38All right.
01:39I watched.
01:42I looked and I saw three nothing.
01:44I looked the other day.
01:45I looked and it was three nothing.
01:46But you know what had happened?
01:48The one was blocked.
01:50So I lost 10-3.
01:51I was like, okay, they won.
01:54And I saw this one yesterday, last night.
01:57And I said, let me really open this thing up to make sure I'm not making fool of myself.
02:00And I went straight to the stat sheet.
02:03And my man Wood did his thing.
02:05Dude.
02:06Cruz had another hit.
02:08Trying.
02:09He coming.
02:09He coming.
02:10So Finnegan now has six saves.
02:161.17 ERA.
02:17I'm sure there's some stat people care about more than ERA, but I still care about ERA and batting average.
02:22Call me old-fashioned.
02:24Six saves tied for second in baseball.
02:27All right.
02:27Finnegan could close out games if they get him the ball with the lead.
02:31It's the stuff in between that causes all the trouble.
