New trees take root in town £250,000 planting project

Ten hectares of trees will be planted in Hartlepool over the next two years in a bid to improve the town’s low tree coverage and improve people’s “quality of life”.

00:00We are launching the Trees for Cities initiative across Harlepool where we are

00:04starting to plant many more trees across Harlepool for the benefit of the

00:08community. It's all part of a £475,000 initiative in partnership with Trees for

00:14Cities, Harlepool Borough Council and other partners. We've secured £250,000

00:18from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to kickstart this project and we have

00:23been working with people of Harlepool, the local community to increase the tree

00:28canopy across Harlepool by about 10 hectares over the next few years.

00:33Trees for Cities is the UK's only charity which focuses just on getting trees into

00:37urban areas and we've been working with the council for about the last 12 months

00:40to pull this project together and we're delighted to be starting a two-year

00:44initiative which will see trees planted, new jobs created and multiple other

00:49partners coming together to make sure that it's a success.
